WATT does master link always say? Rub beer dub dub, 3 variables in a tub, grab is me soap and bend is thy over. How many chicken lick'inns do I repeat myself is chew my cabbage twice about running new with new and old with new. Used gets WOT you pay for... Or in this case (c0ver)...

I will change my sprockets with the chain all new are my parts. I will discuss the tire is you want to get into an argument is cheap vs. the 360 times 2 of them wearing out equally. May not see that tire wear, may not see that bearing all wrinkled, but used be wise next time to rub beer dub dud them both.

But I see you have to learn your lesson the hard way is NOLTT either way. "And guess WOT? He made you turn your right turn signal on for a left hand turn."

Probably what I would do is buy the bearings, clean up the new shaft wear pattern, remove the clutch cover, and take those items to a shop with a blind puller.

Do you know anyone locally? A case of beer should make it right for the time.

Might be a good thing. Knowing us we could spend each other into the poor house or worse jail time for having to much fun testing. All Good.

Not to many tech threads these days, glad you guys are having one with pics. Cheers.

That's what I'll do Hagrid, probably buy another lever though, pocket change compared to what I've already spent chasing this problem.

The one thing that puzzles me is why it's so free in the hot and cold mode but locks on the cool down cycle only. That ones going to have me scratching my head for a long time...

14 is bulletproof as Hub would say, 10R and 6R not so much. This was a really strange problem, probably one of the tougher ones I've come across as it is almost impossible to verify.

Thanks to all for their inputs on this!

Always nice to have some good men on your wing. Gives us mortals the confidence to try and learn to do things we normally wouldn't. Very Nice Indeed. We all become better for the knowledge. Cheers

When you show us the old bearing I may have a theory.

look at shaft

from the looks of it the shaft wearing that way is normal. but hey chunk enough parts at it and sure enough you'll fix it . the cable clutch is an old design and a rough design and had issues thru out its design .. from factory cable routing to shaft and bearing wear of old KZ's.. U either need to replace it all as a unit 1 piece at a time or modify it to your specs to find a solution..

Rob, being that you most likely have had this ZX-14 motor apart then most ever will, curious to here your opinion on link below.

When you show us the old bearing I may have a theory.

The very first day [every 14] that came home withubby, I pulled the brake and clutch lever pins, greased them thicker than factory, and from then on, I'd pull them again down the road some. Have we lubed the pins, yeah?

If the book says to lube that cable, what is the service time for it? I cut those intervals in half. If hag has theory, I may have something more in the magnetic end of the theory. This is going back to those roman times is if they were not pillaging, someone would be thinking to rubber up some cat hair and work with some static electricity.

Rub beer dub dub, we see that rubber rub? Pins stand up in the static? Heat is static, cold is WOW the static is that shock in the winter months when it's cold and dry, right? So the pins stand up on the rub back and forth like static is me pin says the whack theory.

And, you have maybe cage debris in a powder/static form. So that which is not washed away or the crap chipping off the new shaft, we have more static happening, no?

So when it goes cold, you break the magnetism of the pins standing up in that locker mode. That's my best whackage of a package.

Hag? Use is up.

Tell 'the hand' he's doing it wrong. How many 14's has he gone thru? To my knowledge, none of his came out to play out the front of the case. Rare are the blows says year after year. Can't you have too much oil pressure and then the oil skates so fast over the part it can't carry the heat away?

google is your friend .. when I do an engine build and have the motor all broke down to bare cases and cleaning .. I hook a water hose to the oil passage to flush and look for clogs .. you'll be amazed at whats been left in or got into your oil passages that's blocking ports .. and i'm talking about motors that where never taken apart until they broken ..

Hub butt lettuce remember, Grn may have come late to this party but he zeroed in on that upper needle roller locker right away. Does this mean coveted Master Tech status is hereby conveyed upon Grn? Yes or no? If not, possibly Master Tech JG (junior grade)as having two Master Techs on this site could cause problems.

Give the GrnMan credit wear credit is dew Hub, he walked the tech walk, just sayin.....

Dang 1Bad, that shaft has the same upper needle imprint as mine. I have said all along this is a crap design, engineered for low cost not for quality. My old Suzukis had a worm gear and rack almost 40 years ago, straight linear pull device. That Kawi shaft mixes X and Y motion, think simple trig here, side load that shaft as it rotates.

Yep, these motors are dirty, when I pulled that clutch cover I found where all kinds of paint, gasket sealant, worn metal debris was floatin around in that pan. Hopeful that filter catches most of that crap!

My theory is the case hardened surface of the needles is chipped/worn off or they weren't properly hardened at the manufacturer. The steel below the case is more ductile and gummy. This gummy steel, in high pressure contact with the gummy steel of the shaft, results in seizure.

I expect to see rough, pitted, and flattened needles. The extreme pressure required for seizure is provided by thermal contraction during engine cooldown.

what I've viewed over the years working on motors is 1 consistence .. Every motor I've work on that I pulled the oil pan I found the oil pick-up screen block up causing a restriction .. I have yet to see one perfectly clean screen upon inspection..

Thanks for posting that shootout video 1Bad. For sex appeal, the Ducati and F4 are both drop dead gorgeous. For quick laps and intoxicating engine note I'd have to go with the Aprilia RSV4. The KTM looks like it would be a ton of fun too ride and that V twin sound is awesome. If money was a factor, hands down it would be the ZX-10R as it laps within fractions of a second of exotic machines costing twice the price and big power is a wire snip away. The HP4 has the big power and dynamic suspension control out of the box and that special paint looks pretty awesome.

I would have a tough time choosing between these bikes, I like all of them for different reasons and would probably lap equally fast on all of them once setup.

No losers here, only winners.

Look at the spread on lap times, they all fast and within a half second, difference between a pro rider and beginner on the same track is 30 seconds a lap. Forget $30,000 exotic bikes, spend your money on race school and track days. These magazines get paid to split hairs.... Just my .02!
