LOL...we S1000RR owners have come to love our "Alienhead" headlamps as a quite radical yet charming design feature:)

I wouldn't mind having one of these parked in my garage alongside the F3 if I could afford the payments.

No, me neither but like I was telling you, I am NOT going to get all caught up in it because it is the latest thing. Maybe someday I will feel like I need to have the latest again but I'm looking at 6, 7 year old bikes and they look very cool to me. As far as riding, I don't think I will do much better on anything brand new. A nice 2008 ZX-10 or 6r would me just fine.

I always felt that was the single downfall from an aesthetics viewpoint but now I would be proud to ride one of those cock-eyed beasts. I'm sure the S1000 will hang on to that feature for some time.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah that branding element is pretty well defined at this point:) While I truly love the S1000RR and there isn't another liter bike I'd rather own, (mostly because it so freaking fast), I'm not sure I would have paid the $18K OTD on a new 2012 over about $14K OTD for an 11 or 12 ZX-10R. It's true I had been seriosly lusting after the bike for months and had ridden one a lot due to the very liberal test ride policy at Ft Worth BMW. But already owning two 2012 bikes and dealing with what has become a real premium price for the bike over the Jap competitors, (of which for now I only consider the ZX10 to offer point for point competition), the $18K OTD wasn't high on my list. I kept looking for one locally that I assumed would be for sale by one of the many, shall we say "age challenged" BMW demographic members:)
On Craigs list there was one in all of DFW for sale by owner and several by dealer where just what I described had happened. Folks that owned GS's or RT's thinking somehow because of the propellor badge this could be a nice sport touring bike. I'll never understand it but you wouldn't believe the number who looked right past the K1300S and wanted that "latest and greatest" only to limp it back after a month of ownership realizing they had bought an honest to God no compromise sport/track bike. Imagine that:) Of course the dealers all wanted close to new on these bikes so I was just content to take hour long rides on them every Saturday. Thats when I fell hard for the cockeyed Alienhead:) Turns out the one private seller on Craigs list wasn't an old guy. but a Harley owner who had "thought", likely again due to the BMW badge, that there was finally a sports bike for him that would work. So he traded his gleaming black Streetglide in for the motorsport 2012 that I now own. For whatever reason, he parted with the bike for less than $14K with 300 miles on it, R&G tail tidy in place, and not even ready for the rev limiter to be removed at the first 600 mile service. I bought it on the spot after he told me there were two guys from different parts of the country planning to fly in and look at it. I totally believed him given his price. He was asking $14,900 and I bought it for $13,750 cash deal. I proceeded to ride it hard the same day and took it in for service and rev limiter removal and slick plug injection 2 days later. So, bought the bike for less than any of the new Jap bikes and have not looked back. Problem is, It's hard to find time to ride the glorious ZX-14R. The BMW is so much fun. When I get on my Zed I feel like I'm driving a Cadillac Escalade straight off of a Porsche 911. Both tremendous bikes, (cars), but one more fun to ride, (drive):)

I'm surprised people are so appalled by the cockeyedness of the Beemer. In my opinion is takes the same eye to appreciate a ZX-14; they are both Mona Lisa's. For that price I would have jumped on it too. I'm going to take the big girl to the track for now and will pull the trigger when the bike not my skills become limitation to progress on the track. Beemer and CBR remain my favorite. New or used they're both worth the price. My problem with the new ZX-10 is that most testers and regular riders complained about about the mid range. It may be close to the Beemer but changing the gearing, flashing the ECU and piping the bike will get you close to 20k. Then you have to add rearsets, crash protection etc... No thanks

Have you seen the new 2013 CBR... always wanted a Repsol! They shoulda made a Stoner edition!

Gilles Ti/gold rearsets, marchesini or BST wheels, Akrapovic Slip on or Full, PCV, Black GPR damper, Ohlins front and rear suspension, Pirelli Super Corsa, Rizoma levers with guards and levers crash protection

@Kruz and Jagman my wife doesn't know you guys but she's going to hate you lol

I need to commit so I'm going to think about it for the next couple of days and then I'm starting to buy parts for my next bike!

Freaking love that Repsol! And yeah in many ways if I wasn't so infatuated with the Alienhead, the Fireblade would be my other choice.

Jag it sounds like you got a great deal on your BMW, way cool! The HP4 version just moved to the top of my list, base is $20,000 though (ouch) but I think that's going to be the best value. The blue wheels and carbon trim is nice but not essential and add too much to the price. Yea, the look of the HP4 is starting to grow on me, not pretty like the F3 but the HP4 is definitely bad azz looking.

The F3 just got knocked down a peg on my "lust list", way too many problems surfacing. Sounds like MV ran out of R and D cash before they got it fully developed. I just picked up tje December issue if MotorCyclist and they called the low speed fueling "dreadful"! Until they get that fixed I'd just have to say no.

The HP is well dialed in, this may be the pick of the litter for sometime to come.

@dragking, don't write off the 10R, I was out riding mine a few hours ago and thinking this is one amazing machine. It has no bad habits, I can't even get mine to headshake....and I've tried!

The ECU mod frees up 15 HP at peak and 24 at redline, takes 30 minutes and is absolutely free. It accesses the Euro map that KHI conveniently left in there...wink wink! Increases midrange and also eliminates fuel shutoff under closed throttle for better corner entry.

Drop one tooth on the Cshaft sprocket for about $20 and you transform the bike into a snarling beast.

If you want midrange to set off seismic detectors, check out Austin Racings website, they're GP pipe puts a bulge in the middle like Budda's.

Don't forget Tom Sikes rode a 10R to 2nd place in World Superbike this year, losing to Biagi by one half point! He also won more superpoles than everyone else on the WSBK grid combined! In race trim these things are bullet fast, check out the video of Sikes smokin the field at Magny Cours.

http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/13/1608/13/Motorcycle-Blog-Post/Tom-Sykes-and-his-ZX-10R-Video.aspx

I don't think you could go wrong with a 10R, Blade or BMW, all great machines.

Lol, not the same bike. I was just looking for picture that showed the color scheme under a more flattering light! lol
That being said, I don't see how you can like Stoner's bike aesthetics and not like the CBR 1000!

No Doubt the ZX-10 can be competitive but it just too much work. I don't like speedohealer and therefore would hate to change the gearing. Austin Racing pipes are sweet. Do they offer complementary maps? Either way, I would still need to have it tuned since it would be a track bike! The thing that bother me the most is the ergo. The bike doesn't fit me at all. I was way more comfy on the 675 R. I'm glad they left that map in it though. I wish they did the same with the 14R!

By the way Kruz what's was that half stepping about. If you're going to go exotic go balls deep:

Plenty of power, Sublime steering, too much sex appeal!

And if the asymmetrical look doesn't do it for you. Take it to the track. If I had a Beemer this is the way it would look 90% of the time. Plus I bet I can get away (pun intended) riding it in race trim on the backroads!

"I don't see how you can like Stoner's bike aesthetics and not like the CBR 1000!"...easy...it's not the same style...I don't really like the design styling of that 2013 CBR.Stoner's bike is badazz...I like that one.

Maybe we're confusing what's being compared.I'm talking about design style...physical...the fairings and such.NOT the paint scheme or that.Who else is riding for Repsol...except Casey Stoner? On that machine. The 2013 CBR just doesn't appeal to me...

I don't like speedohealer and therefore would hate to change the gearing.

No need for a speedo healer, the ZX-10R has traction control with a rear wheel speed sensor so changing gearing has no effect on the speedo.

Try lowering the pegs on the 10R to the lower position, much more comfortable, they ship them in the upper position.

No Doubt the ZX-10 can be competitive but it just too much work

Not at all, install a 6mm shim under the rear shock mount, cut the red/green ECU wire to access Euro mapping free HP, drop one tooth in the front and for the final touch add sticky race spec Michelins or Dunflops and go to the track.

All of these bikes require setup to go from street to track.

And an honor I will truly covet:) Not sure I can be a "Meister" however unless I can get the quote feature to work correctly or get my pics centered:)
Now that I'm in full brag mode, I am going to take some decent pics this weekend showcasing the bling adds and post them up. Man it's Friday, gonna be mid 60's this weekend, and I'm ready to ride!
