Man things get heated around here really fast.
Sorry, it was getting ugly, I deleted most of my posts. It seems lately you can't express an opinion around here without someone attacking you. The civility of the old site seems to be missing.

Any decision yet Arizx? I'm looking hard at a new '08/'09 ZX-10 or an '09 GSXR 1000, R1s aren't my cup of tea and I already have a Honda. Something about the 10 keeps drawing me back in, must be it's bad boy image. I'm staying away from the '08/'09 CBRs, they're cheap right now but they can have some fairly serious issues like missed shifts, poppin out of gear and burning oil like a tramp steamer.

Why not the 2010 10r?
Looks better with the revised front IMHO
and should be cheap soon enough.

Personally, I don't think the new front is all that dif. In fact, after comparing pics, i like the old front better.

I'm looking hard at a new '08/'09 ZX-10 or an '09 GSXR 1000, R1s aren't my cup of tea

Exactly what was going through my mind a few months ago. Same bikes in that order of preference and absolute thumbs down on the R1. To make it even sweeter, the 08 ZX-10 was not much over 8000$ OTD.

Go for a black 10 if you want to emphasize the the overall shape and play down the details. So much engine is showing and all black works well to unite the whole machine and communicate the idea that all the parts of the bike function together as a whole. It's very gestalt. I like that in a race bike. I don't care how insignificant this is but I love that big wide deflector on the rear tire. The whole bike has a sort of rude look about it. They weren't concerned about prettying this bike up. It was made for just one thing and that's the way it looks.

You are making me want to cry thinking about being on that ZX-10...and still having a 14 too.

Wait a minute, Kruz -- don't tell me you are going to have two liter bikes! You'd sell one wouldn't you?

Negative Rook, CBR's a keeper, ZX-10 would be a stable mate. Scooter fever has taken hold of me once more and I've been thinkin about a 10 for some time now. I'm thinking these two bikes are going to be so different in nature that they won't compete with each other. The CBR is very user friendly, does everything well and nothing really oustanding. It's like the kid next door that never got in trouble and went on to graduate with a 3.6 GPA in accounting. If the government rated it, it would get a grade of 'sastisfactory' in all categories. The ZX-10 is a true bad boy with attitude. It even looks pissed off. For some odd reason it reminds me of a praying mantis in the green color. You're right, the black looks very integrated. In the green and blue it looks a little to "busy" in the styling department.

I remember I found you a bike up North of Milwaukee last summer. I think it was around 8 grand OTD for an '08. '08s here in Texas are still high. Best deal I could find within reasonable driving distance was $10,348 drive out. One down in Houston for $9800 drive out but that's an 8 hour roundtrip. He's got one of each left, black, blue and green.

They are almost giving away '08 CBRs here, drive outs vary between 8 and 9 grand. The bike has definitely gotten a bad rep from all the negative publicity over the oil consumption issue.

I'm gonna drive over and take a look at the 10 Saturday morning unless I can come to my senses first.

The R1 will wow you with it's brakes, great ergos and monstrous midrange.
I know it's not much to look at but some say the same thing about the 14.
It is the best Japanese liter bike money can buy if you are not going to take it to the track and will only be riden on the street IMHO. The 10r will be the wrong choice for a track weapon too as I'm still too see someone without a racing license to actually lap strong times on it

Kruz,

Although I felt at home on the 10r, something was missing - perhaps it was more of the same and I need something new.
I am going to try the R1 2009. I only sat on it and it felt right.
I must say that I find it more and more difficult to give up the 14 :)

I'd be interested in your feedback on the 10 Arizx. How the heck did you wrangle an all day test ride? I can't even get the local stealer to let me take it around the parking lot. LOL!

Everything I'm hearing says the 10R suspension is stiff and will beat you senseless on all but baby bum smooth roads. I also noticed most of those guys were light weight riders, 170 lbs or so. I'm 225 lbs and that can make a huge difference. My CBR suspension is too soft for my weight so the 10R might be just what the doctor ordered. One thing I keep hearing is the bike responds well to aggressive riding, pussy foot around and it can bite you.

Headshake is mentioned a lot when accelerating hard out of corners but all liters do that, even my CBR wags a bit. Again my weight could help load the front and keep things under control. As long as we're not talkin lock to lock action here I think I can live with it. I've heard the stock Ohlins damper is worthless, even cranked to the max it will still headshake.

I'm also hearing the 10R has the most power of all the liters with an intense rush above 10,000 rpm but mostly topend with a relatively soft midrange. Check out the Akro Evo 4 into 1 graph below, it transforms the power delivery with a super fat midrange and low end with 175 rear wheel hp. It turns it into a CBR killer.

Did you get a chance to hammer that 10 last weekend? what's your opinion?

Kruz,

The suspension is very stiff. In a tight curve with less than perfect asphalt the bike started to skid in sort of "stuttering', something that I remembered from my 10r 2004. If I were to buy this bike, I would work on the suspension first of all.
With your weight you will have to make less changes to the suspension.
There were no noticeable head shakes even when pushing it hard.
All in all it is a great bike and I found it to be very accurate and controllable.

Don and Roy's was the best price. It was about $8500 tax and everything OTD. Cedars Creek Motor Sports also had a very comparable price. I'm tempted to go back out and grab one if the price is still low but that would be insane. I have to many other obligations right now. Maybe in a year......I don't know. Maybe if i sold one of the hyperbikes but the 14 is too dear to me and I have mods for it that i have not yet installed. The busa has not much over 1000 miles on it and mods purchased but never installed. I can't see selling that either. I'm hanging on to both for at least a year.

A mate of mine had like 3 R1's so far, and fixes them up and is
just in love with them. It's a amazing bike. I like the ZX10R
looks better than the R1 though, maybe also because we have more
R1's riding around than ZX10R's.......

IF YOU GO WITH THE R1, MAKE SURE ITS THE BLACK/RED ONE!!!!!!

hehehehhehe!!! .. it's faster!

LOL, Rook you crack me up, your as nuts as I am! Hey go for it, you only live once, just don't sell any of the bikes you already have, keep adding to the collection. The way I see it, the dollar is going to go to zero in the next 5 years due to the out of control spending and money printing going on on Capital Hill. I'd rather have a shiny new ZX-10R any day than a pile of worthless greenbacks.

^^Yeah, that would be one more bike i would have to protect from looters if the dollar actually does fall flat on its face.

I stopped in at SouthEast Sales at lunch and they have their blue/black 08 zx-10 sitting there with an $8300 price tag on it. Looks very sweet. It is awfully tempting. All they would need to do is cut $300 and I would thinking "how can I not buy this?" It could be a great deal for somebody but not me. Maybe next summer if they still have any 08s left around and the price is still low. I have a feeling there won't be any new models that are going to outdo it by by much for years. In fact, they may get slower. Look at the 04-05 -- it's not all that much dif than the 08-09. I think they may have reached somewhat of a plateau in technology and the economy isn't going to help break that plateau.
