In stock forum my 08 cbr shocked the hell out of me after owning a zx14 with a PC,no flies and yoshi slip ons it was just flat out quicker than the zx14 once the bikes were moving.

Same here with the 10R, since mods it will leave my 14 for dead in a roll on contest, midrange hit is that strong now.

Bad to the bone bro! I woulda got a black 6R but I already had the 10R in black. These bikes were made for black, best looking out there IMHO!

I was asking about gearing on the CBR. My buddy was telling me his gearing was stock and red lines at 186? I did not expect to here this. But after watching him jump the bike up into a stand up in 6th at 240Km, I became a believer, and yes, I did check at the time. The rear was stock 4 sure. Do your bikes red line at 186 ?

I've always heard the '08 redlines at 178, is his modded? My '07 redlines at 175, plenty fast enough for me. You have me curious now, next time Al Lamb's Honda over in Dallas runs an open house I'm going to test ride one of the '09 or '10s and see what all the fuss is about. I'll give an unbiased ride report on here, only way to know for sure is to ride em both back to back.

Seems like quite few of us ZX-14 riders also own these little monsters. Here is another one, 2009 ZX-6R Diablo Black leftover inventory I just picked-up 10 days ago.

BTW, congratulations on your new machine, the 6r is a good compliment to your 14 methinks as their performance envelopes don't compete directly. The 14 is way faster and the 6R is way more flickable so you can enjoy what both have to offer. I find with the literbikes in the stable now, the 14 has become just a bit redundant. It offers more comfort than the liters for sure but is definietly not faster and it takes more effort to muscle the old girl down a twisty road. Now you gotta ditch that boat anchor of a pipe, go Akra, you will not be dissapointed.

It's a definitely a different ride than the 14, especially flickability in corners for a bike that weighs 150 lbs less. A different ride for sure, so different, I have to get used to it.
Yes, it will be Akra to replace the stock can. I have Akra slip-on's on my 14 and love them. Now I have to decide whether to go with full system as Romans put on his 6R, or just slip-on as on your bike.

I have yet to hear anyone doing 186 on gps with most the party ends in the low 180s same as most other stock liter bikes minus the BMW. The stock gearing is 16/42 on the CBR

I wrestled with that one too and finally decided the slipon Akra gave the least compromises for the street. Slipon adds lowend, midrange and top end.... just not a lot. You get way more midrange and topend with the full Akra and a PCV but you pay with a giant hole in the torque curve down low and I couldn't live with that as this bike is already challenged below 8000 rpm. When I first bought it, I almost got off and started pushing a couple times coming off a traffic light LOL! If you are going to do a lot of track days I would definitely go with the full system, for street go with the slipon. Added bonus, the bike runs great on stock fueling with the slipon.

Yea, I don't know how you are going to deal with that. If you hop off the 6r and right onto the 14 it feels like you're riding a coal barge until you nail the throttle then it feels like it's going to dislocate your shoulders. If you hop off the 14 and onto the 6R it feels like someone shoved a shop rag down the intake, very anemic...relatively speaking. I like to ride my cruiser between these two to kinda break things up a bit.

Steve when your riding your bike try and take notice of how much time you spend at 3700 to 5000 RPM. That will help you decide.

What I noticed after the install was that the bike really wakes up at 5000, before(stock)the hit did not start till 8.

Either way lots of fun.

Thanks for the info Rick. Normally open pipes cause loss of some low and mid range. Also, stock ZX-6R has exhaust valve that is intended to boost the same, but considering your statement, it seems to be just useless.

I know this may sound stupid But I did not notice any power loss down low. I just thought the sixer was a turd below 6 and I still do, no change there.

I'm sure Kruz will be hitting that link pipe soon. 6lbs more off. Sorry Kruz, just teasing but I know you don't ride that bike much below 6(parking lot maybe lol). She loves to scream and that sound is so addictive.

Yes, that seems to be what I am going to do, a slip-on with the cat eliminator link pipe.

I know, I know Romans, how much time do you spend below 6000 on one of these critters? That said, I really like having some smooth torque down low as all my rides begin and end with some in town riding. I absolutely hated my CBR with the RS-5, the huge flat spot at around 4000 drove me nuts even though the top end hit was really nice. With the Akra slipon on there the flat spot is gone now and it's a much nicer machine around town, don't really miss the topend cause it didn't kick in till past 10,000 anyway. I kind of feel the same way about the 6R, I was willing to trade some topend for some low end. If all I ever did was track riding, I'd go with the full Akra for sure. Another factor was financial, that full system is around $2000 plus you really need a PCV to get the most out of it so that's another $350. I think I paid $650 for the 6R's Akra slipon and left the fueling stock.

I got the new Zero Gravity SR series dark smoke windshields on both the 10R and 6R over the weekend. Juries still out whether I like them or not, I'll post some pics maybe tomorrow and see what you folks think. I'm not quite ready to put the stockers back on yet but I'm not really feeling like this was the best allocation of resources either.

The last two weekends I did the ultimate twisties shootout between the 6R, the 10R and the CBR 1000RR. I rode almost 800 miles equally split between the bikes over the same course in three days to get an idea which one is the king.

The route each time was a little Interstate riding (about 60 miles out and back) followed by another 190 or so miles of farm to market roads with lots of medium fast sweepers (60 to 90 mph, off camber turns, decreasing and increasing radius turns and lots of left-right transitions and S bends. A little bit of everything.

Heres the results:

Top End Power

ZX-10R 10 points........No contest here, the 10R is the fastest thing I've ever ridden!
CBR 9 points
ZX-6R 8 points

Midrange Power

ZX-10R 10 points........Again, the 10R outmuscles the CBR in corner exits and topgear rollons.
CBR 9 points
ZX-6R 8 points

Low End Power

CBR 10 points.........The CBR has a really nice initial surge then levels off into a smooth, hitless powercurve.
ZX-10R 9 points
ZX-6R 8 points

Suspension

CBR and ZX-6R 9 points (tie)
ZX-10R 8 points........The 10R is sprung a little too taut and kicks back over sharp bumps.

Initial turn in

ZX-10R and ZX-6R 10 points.......The 10R is really good for a literbike and the 6R is almost magical!
CBR 9 points

Front end feel in the corners

ZX-6R 10+ points.......No contest, the 6R never scared me, I had my anxious moments with the others!
ZX-10R 9 points
CBR 8 points.......Front end pushed, lots of front tire scrubbing approaching the limit.

Ergos

ZX-10R 9 points........10R is comfortable for a taller rider like myself.
ZX-6R and CBR 8 points (tie)

Confidence in the corners

ZX-6R 10+ points........I just kept wanting to push harder with the 6R, never found the limit.
ZX-10R 9 points
CBR 8 points

Overall Comfort

CBR 9 points.........Compliant suspension and OK ergos made the trip less of an ordeal.
ZX-6R and ZX-10R 8 points (tie)

Fun to ride

ZX-6R 10+ points.........The 6R is a hoot, most fun you can have with your clothes on!
ZX-10r 9 points
CBR 8 points

Looks (subjective)

CBR 10 points..........Kawasakis are kinda plain Jane looking, a few graphics would help!
ZX-10R 9 points
ZX-6R 8 points

Gearbox

ZX-6R and ZX-10R 10 points
CBR 9 points........Missed one shift!

Brakes

ZX-6R 10 points.......Feels like you dropped anchor, smooth and STRONG!
ZX-10R 9 points
CBR 8 points

Roll Rate

ZX-6R and ZX-10R 10 points (tie)......I was surprised the 10R is almost as quick as the 6R.
CBR 9 points.......Noticeably slower to transition.

Great Read Kruz, I thought for sure the CBR would have dominated in this cat.

Yea, me too, I was shocked when I got to ride these bikes back to back in some fairly hardcore twisties. My preconception was that the CBR would dominate because of the smooth power, low end grunt and nuetral handling. When I started to really push the pace though, things started to unravel. The bike just felt phat and I couldn't climb all over it like I can the 6R and the 10R. I felt like I was wrestling it through the transitions, it suits more of an old school, sit in the middle riding style. This is a fast and flowing road, the turns come at you pretty quick but there are no first gear hairpin curves. If there were, the CBR might have faired better with it's stout low end punch. The 10R was better than the CBR when the pace picked up and more fun to ride but I also reached a point where I didn't want to push it any harder, it was just going faster than the CBR when it finally reached that point. There are a few big ol bumps and dips out on the course, bridge expansion joints especially, where the 10 punched my kidneys pretty good when I hit them at speed.

The 6R never lost it's composure, confidence inspiring.

Next weekend I'm planning to head back out there with the ZX-14. I will definitely take it easy on the big girl until I can get a feel for her limitations. It will be interesting to see how she fairs against the smaller machines,I might be surprised, you never know. None of the bikes this round got a 10 in comfort, I imagine the 14 will ace that category.

If it were nothing but superfast sweepers out there, 110 mph plus, I imagine the 14 would have little trouble handling the others but this is a little tighter than that so I don't know. I am sure that a lot of 14 owners will want to know how she fairs against her smaller siblings.
