I don't think I'd be able to follow either of them for long. I want to say I wish I had a road like that to practice on but I don't know. You fall there and you're either chopped up by the rail or it's a dive over the edge.

That's pretty awsome driving alright.
Maybe if you had someone sitting on the back telling you about each corner as it's coming....no, that wouldn't work.

The Cypress road was not good for bikes. Did you notice all the rocks and gravel on a lot of those corners? Some of it didn't appear till half way around. That's my biggest fear when riding!

A few considerations here first of all none of it is racing just entertainment. Cars racing that's lateral g's in corners not fun. I one time ran across some Panteras way back and found that bikes can't keep up with cars in the corners only on the straights.
This one time last summer I think, I saw a bike approach and waited for it so as to make sure it wasn't a cop. Well it made a lot of noise and took forever to approach turned out be two up on a Harley. Disgusted by such appallingly slow progress I had to blow by him just to show him how he should be moving.
Had another funny on this summer. I saw a nice looking custom type Harley on the main road thought nothing of it. We take our turn off for the fun road and I notice he turns also thought he wanted to go to the store there but he doesn't. One of us is two up so we have to wait up a bit and there he is still moving along with. I thought where is he going. Well after a few miles of medium pace I still see a different light it can't be the harley by now must be another bike caught up to us. We pull over after the road turns and some guy in a VW Jetta stops and says that the Harley was grinding metal for miles trying to keep up! He must have been bored or just checking out the passenger. Probably lost a few pounds of chrome.

I do race Porches. Gotta admit though, I prefer following to leading. When I'm following all I have to do is match their speed!

They usually don't put up much of a fight around here but what a blast when they do.

If you guys think you have all cagers number,
try this guy- The GOG of rallying Sebastian Loeb...

Your text to link here...

I was riding around Mt. St. Hellens, in September, when a group of three 911 turbos pulled out in front of me from a view point. My initial thought was, "You mutha f*ckers couldn't wait 2 seconds for me to go past before pulling out. I'm just gonna have to blast by you anyways!" Well I could not have been more wrong. These SOB's was fast!!! I was giving the zx10r about 90% of what I have.... and they smoked me! I didn't feel comfortable giving it my all, as it was only my second time on this particular road and I didn't trust that one of the Porsches wouldn't be tangled up in a guardrail as I came screaming around one of the corners. Regardless, that day, the cagers were faster... and on my best day... I really don't know. Humbling!

On a side note, long time no chat. Glad to see everyone around here seems to be doing ok!

Hey, Dogo. Good to hear from ya.

So you think those overlapping image vids of the zx-10 vs Lambourgini on a track are all a load of bull?

My stock 14 inihilated a Porche off the line and he never caught up. I suspected he may have lacked the cohones to go through with the race because there was an older Mustang at the light with us and it also beat him. I purposely hesitated a half second so I could see if they were serious and they were. The Mustang was ahead but i pulled them both.

I remember seeing a couple puffs of black smoke come out of the pipes of another Porche I beset myself upon. I guess that's an indicator of how often that car sees extreme use. He came around a corner and slowed down as soon as he saw a chunk of tire or something in the road. That was enough to get him to quit. He never even got a taste. Have to admit, that gave me a bit of a scare too but I would have at least taken to the expressway if I were in front. It was a disappointment more than a victory.

You just have to think, what kind of guy is driving a Porche 9 out of 10 times and what kind of guy is on a sportbike? Most of the people who can afford a Porche are pretty conservative.

Never seen the vids.
I agree 9 out of 10 times the guy in the sports car is gonna back off before the guy on the sportbike. Seems like evertime I pass "Someguy" in a Vette, Porsche, or whatever, they stomp the accelerator. They usually back off in the low triple digits though.
The Porsches I encountered that day, however, fell into the other 10%. They had obviously just tore the road up, in the opposite direction, only to turm around and do it again. I could smell the heat coming from there brakes and clutches. This was a group of buddies pushing themselves and their machines to their limits. When I looked down at my speedo, on a straight stretch, I was doin' 155mph... and they were pulling away!
About a half hour later, I came upon the leader of the group. He just let me pass and gave a wave. Apparently he'd gotten it out of his system and was headed home.
When it comes to canyon carvin', it's really all about how well you know the stretch. There's a sort of local "Ghost Rider" on a yellow zx9r that is known to sneak up on folks around those parts and just anihilate them... no matter what machine they are on/in. Never ran into him personally, but I believe it!
There are also some roads around my place that I know I'm untouchable... atleast until someone teaches me a different lesson.

Yea, nice to hear from you Doggo...wrecked any bikes lately?
I used to own a Porche and I'll tell you, they are not fast off the line. They accelerate halfway decently but they're best at speed. Handling is superb. The faster you go the more they hug the ground. I had a BMW which I thought was faster than the Porche. Before my 14 my fastest vehicle was a Norton 750 Commando with the special cam. Only my buddy on his Kawasaki Mach III could match/beat me.
I was chasing him, on a familiar road when he got to the corner where some truck had lost a bunch of gravel. He crashed on the embankment side and what carnage. Twisted and broken up I almost cried. Oh and he got hurt too. Broken arm, broken leg, broken collar bone and some ribs. I was lucky and was able to scrub some speed and straighten up a little and had a controlled slide to a stop. But, that's why I fear gravel so much.

Not lately... Not for lack of effort however!
Not sure what Porsche you had Sharkey. These #'s don't look slow... and the new ones are even faster (3.4 secs 0-60)... granted the zx14 does it in 2.5 secs and my gen 1 zx10r does it in 2.9 secs... at about 1/10th the cost.

Good to see Dogo around!

Point of this conversation I guess is that you come
upon a good driver in a a really fast car and you might
get your lunch handed to you.
Bike vs bike as we all know is all riders. You are never fully
competitive on the street, you never should, but I know the feeling
when you hit your brake mark to perfection and your corner entry line is
excellent... and then a 100 lbs. chick outbrakes you on the outside and
slowly walks away through the next few turns and you're absolutely uncapable
of carrying so much speed.

I see skillful riders on 600s toy with liter bikes
and less experienced riders on liter bikes both on the street
and at some of the slower tracks.
From my experience at any track that you top out in 3rd gear at
the home straight spells clear advantage for the smaller cc bikes.
Same on the street in the tighter 2nd and 3rd gear twisties.
Being well familiar with the road is a huge advantage, let someone
else lead if the pace is fast. Having a trustworthy riding group
is also huge. It's easy to follow at a fast pace on the street if you've
followed that same person at the track countless times.

Last but not least- do track days, it will make you a better rider.
It will also decrease your desire to street race guys on Harleys.

Mass, on more than one occasion I've had a 100lb. chick rail me @ PIR. Totally frustrating and humbling. The 600's can carry so much corner entry speed that our liter bikes have a lot of corner exit speed to make up. I think it would totally suck to run on such a technical track that on the front or back straights you were tapped out in 3rd gear. PIR is a fast track and 160 plus down the front straight is normal. +1 on trackdays. You learn something new (about yourself or the bike) every time out.

Yeah, Mass. Still no zx14 in the stable... but I'm around. After restoring that old boat over the summer/fall, I was bitten by the tuner car bug. There's still a green '09 out there with my name on it though. About time to start calling the stealerships, again, to see who wants to let one go for $10k cash OTD.

You have a good point about track days.
Picking on Harleys is kinda like throwing a street fighter into the cage. Entertaining... but really... come on! Now if they start it, however, they get what they get!

I'm not sure I can go that slow...

Well, he didn't understand what I was trying to say...but neither did I for that matter. But it wasn't really a race anyway. I just sniffed his tail a couple times and he wanted nothing to do with me. He's one of these middle age chrisisguys who got a Harley cause that's what you're supposed to do. Not everyone has the "urge," and lacks self control like me.
I would like to go to a track but there ane none near to here. (2-3 hours drive) I'm planning to do a couple sessions this year, with a rented bike, down at Sears Point. I wouldn't want to take my 14 on a track. I'd be afraid of scratching it. My son has my ZX6R but he wants to go too. Might have to get something cheap at auction.
