Rook, stop this nonsence I am reading this shit and it sounds like your getting more and more depressed over one dam ticket. You didnt run or get your ass kicked by the cops or hurt any one. Its like this, WHO GIVES A RAT'S ASS! Dude I get tickets up the ass and it dont slow me down, sometimes you got to pay if you want to play baby!

I agree, 101 posts and five pages over one speeding ticket..... enough already!. We've all had them Rook, there a pain in the butt but you'll get over it. You're going to talk yourself out of ever riding again if you keep this up and your depressed state is starting to affect me. I'm not coming back to this thread anymore.

No way- more---MORE!!!!!

I'm not giving up if the posts continue.

....and I just drove past the site wher i was stopped. It was around a big corner. I'm stsrting to wonder if it was possible for him to get a straight shot at me whenI was taking a corner 1/2 mile away. Anyone know if laser works any other way than straight on? Might have found a chink in the armor. Also, 101 is pretty fast. I truly was not looking down at my speedo but it seems more like I might have been doing 90ish?? IDK? I'm going back there and getting video from the cops perch atop that overpass. Might have some evidence in my favor.

Rookster I admire your tenacity at kicking your own ass.......if you had the same approach at kicking someone elses ass you'd be one hell of a cage fighter Remember the bathroom scene from Liar Liar with Jim Carrey "I'm kicking my own ass!?!" lol. Thats you my friend. Now buck up and ride on brother

ok, ok. but I will have to at least go up there to see if he could even have gotten a view of me from the distance he claims. It seems a bit unlikely that he would get me at exactly 35+ over....101-65=36 and not one mph faster.

I actually pulled out my money clip that had a $150 wad wrapped around my drivers lic and the thought to bribe him never even ocurred to me. I would make an awful criminal, Blue but i was one hell of a speed demon.

Here's the piece of the puzzle i failed to include.

I was passed by a sherriff the day before. Iwas doing about a buck and i never knew he was thwere until he pulled up on my left and passed me not looking too happy. He had an emergency to getto so that saved my butt. Once you see a cop there's not much chance you will see another for a while right? WRONG. I was passed by another sherrif about 10 minutes later. I was at least watching my mirrors this time so I saw him in time to slow down and nudge to the shoulder as he spead past me doin over 100. Assiting sheriff #1 , I guess...and I got lucky a second time. I actually had the GoPro rolling and caught him on film sailing past me. I was able to tail him close enough to see him pull of on an exit 66 miles south of the town I was busted in.

I'm sure the 2 sherrifs were employed by the next county. Their station is probably 90 miles away. Probably no connection to the Statie that got me the next day but the possibility has passed through my head. Maybe someone said, "if you see this guy make sure you bust him and bust him good."

Thanks Stephen^^(bean). Love to sneak on an old scowl inside a crate with the 14 and wash up at an Aussie port somwhere...just ride right off the boat doing a wheelie down the plank!

Hey, I wasn't aware that this thread is actually detracting from some members' riding. They're getting the hijibis after all this talk about road traps and tickets. I would just say "oh well, don't read the damn thread," but I think I have had about as much support as I can get and I'm not here to annoy people (on purpose LOL). It is awfully tempting to click on the thread. What I think I will do is to post a thread in Cops & Crash Stories as this thing moves forward. There could be some valuable info for anyone who wishes to know.

Sorry to read about the ticket Rook.
I didn't read every post and I don't know what state you live in, but here in Calif' you can go to traffic school if you haven't had a ticket in the past 18 months. Then it's like it never happened as far as your record. The course can even be completed on the web.
I did read that you already have an attorney but I thought I'd mention (for future use/anyone) traffic school if it's an option in your state. Going 101 may not qualify though??
As for insurance, again, I don't know how 101 factors in but many insurance companies forgive the first violation and even say so right up front. If it really does hit you hard you could also consider changing your coverage to off-set the increase. If you have full coverage you could increase the deductible, etc, and maybe get it back down some. You could even change the coverage to the minimum your state requires. Here in Calif' basic property damage/injury coverage is only $90 a year through the company I found. Makes you legal. Then go back to what insurance coverage you prefer after the ticket goes off your record? Just a thought.
You don't sound like a "jerk" or whatever to me, just someone who made the wrong decision at the wrong time. You got caught is all. We all do it. This bike makes it too frickin' easy. I hit approx' 120/130 every day on the way home from work. Granted it's a 3 or 4 mile stretch that's a little used road but I've seen cops on it before laying in wait but I seem to be lucky and know when to go fast if I want and when to go the speed limit.

Its all relative, ya know? You were caught in a speed trap becuz you were moving relative to the traffic flow at a high differential. We humans are predators and we are attracted to relative motion. The bigger the differential the more likely and the faster we pick up on it. The cop had no problem picking you out easily for a laser shot simply becuz you blipped the throttle in your impatience in traffic and nearly instantly were outpacing the background herd of cages by 35+. That was your downfall. The bike is a small profile and not that easy to spot in traffic (except that yours is done up like a 60's rod, I guess), especially if you establish a "front door" and a "back door" from among the cohabitants of the highway to slingshot between before selecting another pair to provide an acceleration slot for you. But, when you just pull out and whack the throttle? Well, you are clearly targeted by the predators in the squads; you have no intervening cover, and you stand out like a fox bolting the hen house. heh, heh. Had the exact same experience just over a year ago. Patience, man. Pick your slots and move relative tho the herd in stages.

BTW, where was this incident? I spend a fair amount of time in Wisconsin although I avoid the interstates and anyway the area around Mwke-town is all busted up with road repair, stimulus signs, and intolerable worker zone speed prohibitions.

At this time, I don't care to tell the exact location. It was a little town that might not even have a police force but they do have state patrol, of course. Far from Beer town and far from Chi town.

I agree with the "don't stand out in traffic" philosophy. You are at least no more likely to get stopped than anyone else. However, if you are alone on the road, that does not mean you are being ignored. Every time I have seen a cop with a radar gun, he was pointing it at everything that came at him. The cop does not lower his radar gun and go home as soon as I pass through.

Will do. As noted a few posts above, I don't want to scare others away from enjoying their bikes. I hate to have someone reply to the thread and then I say nothing at all, however. I don't mean to be ungrateful or inconsiderate but probabley I will remain silent on this thread until I find out something new. That will probably not be for another month. Thanks for all the positive thoughts, guys.

These are all very sobering stories and experiences. Currently, with all the new bikes on the market with more horsepower and quicker speeds. How useable are these bikes on public roads. What comes to mind is the new BMW S1000RR. Subjective test's show how it's a real performer. But again how much can you actually use on public roads. I guess it comes down to bragging rights. Show up at a bike meet with the most current baddest bike and your cool. Personally I would rather invest my money and get a mid level performer. Not that the ZX-14 is anything short on performance. But again, spending money on pipes, (full system) dyno-jet, flyies removed, ect. Why bother when it only gets you in trouble and (at the very least) trashes your bike. I remember reading on this forum about a guy on his 14 going around a turn, pinned the throttle, rear tire broke loose and totaled his bike. I'm assuming that had he not invested his money on all the aftermarket goodies (I'm guilty as well), it would not have altered the bikes power delivery, hence the mid range punce. I guess the engineers at Kawasaki know their stuff.
So putting things into perspective, I guess taking it to the track is not such a bad idea. Especially after feeling jaded from getting a ticket. I am a firm believer in riding offensivly, and out of "groups" of traffic. Once I am away from idiots, I ease my bike down and stay ahead of traffic but not over take the cluster of cars ahead of me. Problem is, I'm a lone duck vunerable for a cop to "hit" me with radar. Most times I explain that I am riding offensivly and not lane splitting. Also being in my 40's helps since the stigma of "ninjas" are a young person's bike. No distinction between a hyper sports tourer or a race replica. To a lamen, a "crotch rocket" is a "crotch rocket". But generally, a cool head and maturity sometimes favors law-enforcement.
To Rook, most of us have been there, and it sucks. Here on Long Island EVERYTHING is an opportunity for the system to make money on you. It's almost criminal, and mostly a scam. But everyone follows the status quo and deals with it. Sorry for the shitty experience with the ticket. But don't let that change the way you ride. Since the way we ride saves our butt.

That's what I've been trying to tell Rook, you gotta play smart. Clear highway ahead means...slow down. It's counter-intuitive but duck and cover is the best way to go if you can't stay off the throttle. I like to put a couple of fast moving "rabbits" out in front of me, usually a Beemer or Merc.

I don't know about he rest of you, but staying with the pack anywhere across the 250 miles I roam means you are doing 70 mph at the most. If you are happy doing 70 all the time, you are probably pretty safe. If you lose half your points, you probably don't want to risk losing more. I know I don't....even if I do succeed in begging the offense down to 4 points.

How useable are these bikes on public roads. What comes to mind is the new BMW S1000RR. Subjective test's show how it's a real performer. But again how much can you actually use on public roads.

You can use it all. Unlike cars, the bikes will do their stuff in a much shorter expanse of asphalt. I'm convinced that you CAN ride like you are on an LSR course or a track if you want to take the time to practice handling the bike at high speed and you pick places/times that are free of traffic and have favorable conditions. I'm not so sure it is ever a good idea, even if it is possible. The biggest risk is your driving privilege and all that goes with a clean driving record.

If you're a slow rider, you will avoid trouble. I've always felt it was perfectly fine to own a 200 hp bike and mod the hell out of it so you can ride around and be Joe Sportbike without ever breaking the speed limit. I enjoy that aspect of riding too (and I suspect I will be doing a lot of it from now on).

Alright, I'm not going to beat this discussion into a pulp. But Rook your dead wrong!!! PUBLIC ROADS DO NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT MEANS TO EXPLORE A SPORT BIKE'S POTENTIAL. No matter how many times you may hit the rev limiter, or think your going all out. On a track, it is a totally different ball game. So don't even think that just because we can hit a buck 50 in no time flat, that's exploring the bike's potential. Well, maybe you should reconsider what you ride.
But hey, just my .02

A guy who races once told me that a good racetrack will be built with an asphalt compound that is quite different (and more expensive) that that used on public roads. He said that they mix rubber in the asphalt and that causes it to give you better traction. I don't know if this is true, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is. I know the surface at Miller Motorsports Park feels mighty good. -bg

I had a simular thing happen to me. I got a lawyer and he negotiated a deal to 6 months probation and if no tickets it dropped to three points. It wasnt reported to the state until after probation ended. I cost me about 750 in court cost and 1000 in lawyer fees. worth every penny! my insurance went up maybe a 100 year.
