Gives me goose bumps. Yuk-E story.

Yup. I'm having the same reaction. I don't know whether to feel sorry for the guy or what. Was he a scared kid or a callus A-hole? Or some combination of both? Either way, that is a bad one. Really hope he doesn't do himself in. Hope for the best for him and God bless the girls poor parents. Shitsky, I can't wait to see my girls tomorrow( or tonight for a while, I hope). I'm going to give them a lot of hugs.

Rook in my state at least, they have a preset limit as to how far down they'll drop a ticket on a plea bargain. The better your record the farther down they drop it. It has nothing to do with you're bargaining skills whatsoever, and you have nothing to lose by asking......you give up no rights, and you go directly back to square one if you don't like the deal they offer you. With your clean record it wouldn't hurt you at all to ask before you do anything else imo Ive never pled quilty to a ticket and had them all dropped to one degree or another They do it to cut down on courtroom appearances and costs.

Here's my 2 cents. the whole principal of laser use is NOT conducive to using "against" a motorcycle. I will admit it has been awhile since I did my research, but they need a surface perpendicular to the "gun" for proper reflection. I admit the technology may have improved, but worth looking into. I know contesting the competency of the officer using it, current calibration, etc can also be useful. Alot of these will apply to radar detections also. Sportbikes in general make bad targets for these devices.

I have slowed down as of late myself. Too many LEOs trying to make ends meet for the respective areas. I do most of my playing in the mountains now. Going fast is still below posted limits most of the time.

Good luck
Ron

They just want your money! Just give them as little as you have to get off the hook and once the humility and financial devastation is forgotten you will be right back on it. Tell the judge the throttle stuck, It works for people that drive Toyota's.

Ha ha, now you're talking my language. I've always thought traffic enforcement was more about generating revenues for the local government than it was about safety. I spent a couple of months in Germany back in '07 and '08, did some time on the Autobahn and was struck, not by the fact that people went so fast with the unlimited speeds they allow but how slow most were going. Studies have shown that people tend to drive at a speed where they feel safe for the conditions and won't go any faster. Now there are a few exceptions like Rook...LOL!

That was the first thing I told Rook when this happened, there is no large reflective target on a modern sportbike, every surface is curved like a stealth fighter aircraft and is going to scatter laser emissions. A good lawyer could beat this with a jury trial by instilling reasonable doubt. In Wisconsin though, a jury trial is not an option in traffic court and judges tend to be very tough customers to sway. Ask me how I know.

I noticed at the last bike night more young guys have the flip up plates. Push the button and the plate flips up and away you go. I've watched it happen twice so far. Here in Toronto with that stupid law I'm sure you will see more of this. These kids are already making plans to run, eeekkkk. If the fine was a 200 dollars that girl may be alive today. Just my opinion

They call that the "Law of Unintended Consequences". The very thing you are trying to prevent, you end up actually making worse. Think Prohibition here and the 18th Amendment to the Constitution. The intent was to outlaw the sale and use of liquor, the consequence was alchohol use actually increased while givng rise to organized crime. In the end, the 18th was repealed as unenforceable but organized crime is now firmly entrenched. This high speed chase in Canada was a classic example of that law. In the interest of motorist safey you destroy the lives of at least three people and probably a lot more when this is all over. Even the witness was emotionally devastated by the carnage on the highway, she will never forget what she saw. I am not advocating what the kid did was right, far from it but this whole tragedy could have been easily avoided if the cop had just backed out of it when the kid took off at 150 mph. I can only imagine the kid was scared to death with all the red and blue flashing lights in his rearviews and of course the cop was probably lovin it playing John Wayne. I'm hoping more municipalities outlaw high speed pursuit for common traffic infractions, it is insane!

I was talking to one of the sales guys at the local Honda/Suzuki shop. This dude has a collection of seriously fast Busas that he drag races. He runs with no plates when he wants to go fast. I asked him "what do you do when the red and blue bubbles come on" and he said, "I downshift on their azzzz"!

I was told that my record would be very much in my favor but this county doesn't shy away from doing the trials if a reduced offense is not accepted. I might just go in and ask for a reduction myself but I don't need the stress of the "what ifs." I'll pay the attorney to do it just to feel satisfied that someone knowledgeable of the local system is doing my talking. If it doesn't work for him, I don't see that I could have done any better.

Sounds exciting but that is totally insane. I have played some high speed chase (with other bikes) and for me to try to actually outrun or catch the other vehicle was totally out of the question. A police chase isn't like a drag race with two lanes. They'll be right behind you and something like what we had in that Toronto story can happen. I have no stomach at all for fast riding any more. The 14 hasn't seen anything over 55 in the last 3 days. Might as well have a moped.

From my experience like I have posted b4 about laser speed measuring instruments.... a motorcycle is no different than a car or truck.... once he points that laser at you vehicle on ANY relative flat spot it will give an accurate reading on the instrument.... a motorcycle including "modern sport bikes" are no different just a smaller target, but an experienced and trained operator can still get readings... sometimes too late... the general rule for a car or truck is that you point at front bumper where licence plate is or shud be... but any flat part will do.... on a motorcycle no different... your chest is a huge flat spot and if ur tucked any flat spot will do.... if the operator gets a reading on the instrument that means he hit the laser on a flat part of the front of the vehicle.. if the operator is doing his job he has to estimate your speed first also... which they are all trained to do... so if his estimate is way off from the reading then something is wrong...

The only thing that may affect a reading is the angle the operator is standing at or parked at in relation to the roadway.... but they are all trained on this... also black or really dark vehicles are tougher as well because they do somewhat absorb the beam.. but you still can get a reading... just takes a bit longer maybe a few trigger pulls of the laser instrument...

In conclusion laser is conducive to motorcycles..... they are smaller vehicles and are harder targets but with any experience you can pick off motorcycles just as easy as a car...

Radar is totally different lots of angles to dispute radar... unless of course you are the only one on the road!!

Kruz, if you can get your hands on a police laser clocking gun, I'll spend the 600 on the jammer. We'll have us a little test. I don't trust it yet even though we are getting some recommendations from members. Does anyone have a cop buddy who conducted a jammer test. I want personal testimonials; not something you read in an ad to sell jammers.

hahaha! That's a little low--but I was actually thinking about it last night. 14 has already been offered to 2 guys at $6500, all mods included. Now that I got the ticket, the price would likely be dropping. If the my lawyer succeeds in getting this reduced for me without costing an arm and a leg, well.....the price on the 14 will go back up because I won't be able to afford another bike until I'm 90 years old anyway.

Steven, I'm laughing but the real funny thing is my face goes blank every few seconds and I think, "...hey, wait a minute..."

Fuzz4141 is right on. Laser works just fine on bikes if the operator has skill and a little time to zap your bike. Laser jammers make you invisable to the laser no matter how skilled or how much timme the operator has to zap you. You should never ride in a dangerous fashion but if you are just passing above the limit or going fast on a deserted road The jammer is mighty handy to have if there is a speed trap. It may not be legal to have a jammer or radar detecter in your area so you need to check before you buy. Don't ride naked and without a jammer you are naked.

I woke up this morning and I got myself a beer. The future is uncertain and the end is always near.

I agree with Alaska jammers do work and like he sed it may be illegal in your area... most modern laser speed detection instruments will give a jam signal and the friendly policeman will be having a chat with u anyways!!! lol....

Hope all works out for u Rook...

I know here I wudn't bother with a lawyer, waste of money... cheaper to just talk to the Prosecutor's office if u are going to be resolving and not going to trial....

Correction, yes it is an option. Don’t ask...but I remember paying $36 (a few years back) for a jury in a Wisconsin traffic court. Maybe it just depends on the county the incident happened whether it is an option for a jury or not.

.....and it used to be that there was no radar and cops still estimated speed. If you're really gittin' 'er, you don't want to be seen or clocked by the police. They don't have to get a reading to write a ticket for "exceding the speed for given conditions." $260 and I'll bet it's at least 4 points.

There's something a bit unsettling about the guy who has made more postings here than anybody else talking about selling his 14.

Do I hold that distinction? I'm sure Hub has me beat by a few...or how about blue, he's only off by a couple hundred. Well, thanks. The bike has been a big part of my life and has seen me through some hard times providing me with some of the best memories of my life. However, I always said it's not the most important thing in the world. I'll hang on to it as long as I can afford it. If it becomes a loud, slow moving, butt ornament (as our buddy Kruz likes to call those chromed, up low slung bling bling machines), I don't know about how long I will keep it. I always wanted to go fast and right now.....I think I am finding out how risky that is....and the main risk is police nabbing you.

I really don't have an appetite for high risk. The stuff I have done, I have learned to do carefully. I have not fallen and I think that is because I am too careful to push things beyond my learning zone. There are some corners that I would love to take fast but I don't bother with them because they are way too tight for me. Even a pro rider would have to slow down quite a bit on a much smaller bike.

Thanks bg, Me and the 14 will hang around as long as I can. Otherwise willid will be riding mimi for the next 25,000 miles.

I agree with everyone... Rook you don't need to sell the 14... sell the Busa!! Everyone gets nabbed once in awhile for speeding... you made a mistake.... with your clean record I am sure the court will give you a break, talk to the Prosecutor's office in person and see what they can do, might not be worth it to go with your Lawyer..

Dude it was a speeding ticket, don't let that get to you pal... ride your bike and keep your bike!!! Yes it is one of the fastest production bikes around... doesn't mean you have to hog on it all the time... I always have fun cruising along on my 14.... you know u wud be upset to see her go!!!

I say keep the bike and stick round here!!!!
