"Seems like it's at the same place I had it on the other bike"...the CHAIN SLACK silly...NOT the 'same place as the other one"....it's 10mm longer anyway...and yes....with an increased chain length,it's gonna closely match on the hash marks...the stamping is identical. For this setup.Add 10mm to yer old setup...THEN tell me it's the same on the hash marks. And if you went 30k on one chain without an adjustment....you musta been pushing the bike instead of RIDING itLOL!!!...I've already cleaned mine with kerosine and all that good stuff they say to do at 400 miles.Yes Hub...I do love my chains.

"They have lots of HP on the shelf for this bike, but you pussies are more content with what you have. I on the other hand do not see a huge jump in power"....if you don't....well...what's that saying...in Braveheart..."yer fooked" .

"An asspucker like yourself would"...got that keerect...FINALLY. Nothin like a good asspucker to get yer ride goin!

" but you pussies"...you mean....all those guys that've NEVER had their bikes in.....L3?I confess...I DID try L3...just for you. That lasted about three blocks....nope...road conditions we just too enticing.I couldn't help myself. My finger just kinda automatically switched er back into FULL ON FUN MODE .

Gotta go ride now...finally got a possible "break in" the weather...

I think you understood the position no matter the length. It says I do not need to move the chain. It says you wash oil out, I pack grease in. It also says I lube sooner than you. You spray over and it drops straight down? How can it move horizontally in but to squeeze the grease in. So, I can clean the chain and rim with a paper towel and nothing else.

It's hard to school me if my compression is way out there and I hardly move drive chains since the 1970's, as if they improved the chain design? I think it's all about staying on top of the chain no matter the lube.

"It also says I lube sooner than you. You spray over and it drops straight down?"...it says that?Really?

"How can it move horizontally in but to squeeze the grease in. So, I can clean the chain and rim with a paper towel and nothing else"....the links are 'sealed'...you aint gonna squeeze NOTHIN in those links. If you run the chain forward...as in moving forward...the chain lube automatically soaks downwards...as it moves forwards...and in between the plates where the precious sealing o-rings are happily doing their job...keeping the factory lube INSIDE the rollers...IF you follow the chainlube DIRECTIONS...you don't get any fling.NONE.If you want to scratch your rims using a paper towel...well...it's your bike.Personally,I use K&N air filter cleaner(soap and water really)...and spray it on there, wipe clean with a soft cotton cloth....muy bueno. They don't get grease fling and such...only dust...

"It's hard to school me"...I aint tryin to school ya.You know way more than I ever could.

I attempted another try at locking my brakes...or at least getting a skid...NOPE...she wouldn't...from 80mph...full brake application...nothin...just FAST reliable braking....I would definitely trust this system with my life...no question.Pretty amazing how quickly she comes to a stop at speed with these...no way would this kind of action happen with my non-abs 07.

Is this thread a joke? Hub, you didn't stay in L3 when breaking in your bike... please say it's not true!

Not to start a month of arguements with you, but I'm more of the 'motoman' break in technique. I don't kill it with redline rpms (keep it under 8000), but I do flog it with strong acceleration and closed throttle engine braking for the first 50 miles, then the first oil and filter change. Then I just ride it agressively till 500, next oil change and raise my rpm limit to 9000. Around 1000 miles I'll take it to redline and ride it normally. Has worked great on every car and bike I've bought new.

I don't think you've ruined your engine ;) but I prefer my way... to each his own...

aegi, I'm breaking in the bike as per book this time. If we work that 20 mile window, I think I broke it in just like your way, sans the rpm climb. No cars pass me when riding. I've been out of the 4k window plenty of times. All the book is stressing is not to sustain that kind of higher rpm. Last thing I'm going to do is remain under 4k on the freeway and become a statistic. I flow/split/am home faster than your average bear.

See, you have grn making those comments. He has no clue so he assumes. He wasn't joking. Like I said, L3 is not what you think. Load can be had besides flogging the piss out of it. Grn can perpetuate a myth because he has no clue the other way. Thus the myths continue. I just used grn as an example. Guy thinks this bike is better than sliced bread and this thing is still slow.

"He wasn't joking"...."It also says I lube sooner than you"...see how ya are...makin statements that just aint true....C'mon HUB....lighten up.this whole deal here is a joke. This running around in L3....not passing 4k..."Last thing I'm going to do is remain under 4k on the freeway and become a statistic"....she'll run 70 easy in 6th at 4k...so what's the prob? You just didn't expect someone else ta come along and clown ya about your break-in thing. It's fine HUB...yer bike's fine. Those Kawi techs already told me the 4K thing IS to seat the rings....along with the 1K procedure...you done well Padwan.(mebbee they know sumpin about their mettalurgy us Yanks aint hip to just yet...???)

"No cars pass me when riding"....even taking the offramp? 'scuse me....

"I've been out of the 4k window plenty of times"...I HOPE so by now

It does concern me a tad bit though that you keep mentioning vibration(s)...mine is smooth as glass...all the way through the rev range...in all gears and speeds. My bars feel fine all the time...

I uploaded a new vid for ya...little bit more testing with the Kskid.

Gotta say...this ABS is honestly the bomb.I'll never look back. You guys were right way back when.

Well greenie, I swapped all sorts of oils and brands, did my bike blow up, burn oil, ruin the rings @220psi?
Well greenie, I run a very loose chain, I could not pull the links back off the sprocket after 28K miles of R&D.
Well greenie, I am experimenting with the break in as I did wit the oil swapping out. Make assholes like you perpetuate your own myths while I squash them one tre, one flash at a time. Get it? I didn't think so.

Here's another one. Just answered a question about chains. See, when you spray, you cannot get the lube on the pin that the roller covers. That pin is horizontal. You spray down on the links, but that still has rubber to steel kissing each other, not something like roller to pin. So when I squeeze the grease onto the links, it has pressure to push grease into the pins or that pressure moves in the horizontal as well as vertical.

So spay, you only X one factor. I factor in X and Y being the pin is the major lube point because of the roller wearing on the pin. The pin wears or accelerates faster over the smaller sprocket. You see how that pin was salvaged as the grease is somewhat helping decelerate the wear points?

NOLTT =

You don't get the lube on the pin....it's sealed to the roller. You may THINK you're squeezing grease in there...but you're not.If you COULD...you'd see the factory 'lube' getting on your rim.You know what THAT looks like, right?Your grease deal is NOT doing what you think it is...The PLATES/O-ring interface is what you want to lube.NOT the pins. They're already setup.Rollers...they won't hold any substantial amount of lube anyway...they're constantly turning hopefully. As they move around the sprockets. If they aren't....something's wrong.Granted..they can become elongated...for whatever reason...wear.But if they're getting to that point...your seal(o-ring) is gonna start letting the factory lube get out.Keep riding it with that going on....yer asking for a chain failure.

Tell me I'm wrong...I've replaced a few zx14 chains in my time.

Maybe you could explain to this here squid WHY the chain mfg's have gone to X ring chains then?

P.S...the days of non-o-ring chains(that require squeezing grease into the pins) for high powered sportbikes are LONG GONE.Unless you're a dragger...but the chain life is VERY SHORT compared to a sealed o/x-ring chain.Tell us here just how wrong I am....

RE: 68.9 Mile Impression of the R-ABSkid
04/12/13 9:36 AM

Found this little synopsis after I posted...quite interesting...don't you think?

"What are O Ring and X Ring chains?

There are three principal types of roller drive chains: non O Ring, O Ring and X Ring. The non O Ring types date back to the beginning of time and are still used extensively today. They are strong, light, cheap to produce and relatively friction free but they do not have internal lubrication, so they tend to wear out more quickly. These days they tend to be used most on smaller capacity and Moto X bikes.

As motorcycle technology and power output has increased, chain design has had to improve with it. So for bigger and more powerful bikes, non O Ring chains have been very much superseded by O Ring and X Ring chains. These position a sealing ring between the inner and outer chain plates. Before riveting in the factory, the internal parts of the chain are filled with chain grease by vacuum. The sealing rings then have two purposes: to keep the internal lubrication in, and to keep the dirt out, thus vastly improving the durability of the chain. O rings were available first and the ring is literally O shaped. As the two plates push on either side of the O ring, it distorts to have two flat sides to its shape. This is great for sealing and great for most uses but it creates considerable friction which saps the bike's power.

That in turn led to the development of X Ring chains. X describes the shape of the ring. Instead of having an O shape it now has an X shape. This means that when pressed between the chain plates, it no longer has a flattened O ring shape but instead has two smaller faces touching either plate in an X shape. This gives you the same great sealing and durability but now with very low friction. The perfect chain!"

So if you're 'squeezing' grease into that pin(on an o/x ring chain)...guess what? You have a damaged o-ring.I submit your 'long chain life' is due more to your driving style, and lube intervals.NOT the grease entering the pins.

Time to go ride...tis BEAUTIFUL here today;)

Go out to your bike, take a roller and spin it. That is the guy that is pressed against the teeth, locks there and now the roller's I/D spins half way around that pin/s O/D. See where the lube goes now? See how you can spray over the roller, down the ends of the roller, maybe walks inside the roller a little, but not as well as forced squeezed in there.

Tell me I'm wrong...I've replaced a few zx14 chains in my time.
Seems like you go thru too many chains to my none. I guess you have the wrong approach to lubing? 100 extra miles times how many on the speedo? That's less lube per 100 miles times how many times you could lube at half that interval?

P.S...the days of non-o-ring chains(that require squeezing grease into the pins) for high powered sportbikes are LONG GONE.Unless you're a dragger...but the chain life is VERY SHORT compared to a sealed o/x-ring chain.Tell us here just how wrong I am...
So wrong a sit down might need bail you out of so many you get into. Clueless once again you do not listen to turtle.

"Seems like you go thru too many chains to my none. I guess you have the wrong approach to lubing?"...agreed...WD 40 will RUIN yer o-rings in short order.I wouldn't throw any of those so-called "extends chain life" spray 'miracles' on there either.Maxima Chain Wax...best I've found yet...no fling...lubes those rings most excellently.Kerosine clean per manual...chain wax....good to go.

"but not as well as forced squeezed in there"...it IS force squeezed 'in there' from the factory. It aint goin anywhere unless ya damage yer o-ring(s).If you really think you're forcing grease inside that pin area...okay....whatever works for you.If you ARE squeezing grease in there...you have to be displacing the factory lube then...guess what? You may be doing more harm than you think...I don't care how many miles you get from a chain....it only takes one weak link.

"Clueless once again you do not listen to turtle"...I can READ just fine .Your way WORKS...on a Non-o-ring chain...yes.But totally unnecessary on a modern x/o- ring design.

"MAINTENANCE - Sealed-ring Chains:

There are only four things you need to do regularly maintain a modern sealed-ring chain:

Clean it of debris (sand, dirt, grime);
Lubricate the exterior (oil or wax);
Adjust it for elongation (not too tight!);
Replace it when it's too elongated or worn, or the seals start to fail".I don't see 'squeezing grease' into the roller/pins here....did I miss something...did HE miss something?...aw what the hell...squeeze away Hub...it's your chain;)And your ride time.

Clean it of debris (sand, dirt, grime) = Grease flings it off is the catch phrase. I don't feel grit on me towels
Lubricate the exterior (oil or wax) = Correctoemoondough is your wallet with the exterior only
Adjust it for elongation (not too tight!) = I don't think you are wrapped too tight is it?
Replace it when it's too elongated or worn, or the seals start to fail" = What is this 'too elongated' is there is a measurement to follow or you think the pin is at its bitter end you bike abuser is I abuse animals you abuse bike
I don't see 'squeezing grease' into the roller/pins here....did I miss something. = You sure did. Not only did you bring exposed diagrams, you can't even read the pictures. Did you even go out to the bike, spin a roller, see it can move from side to side is squeeze that into the roller over the pin. The chain pins are measured in say a foot's worth, or else is the weakest pin, not the weak link. I have to draw a picture is chew along a pencil is one side until you hit the lead. Boom! The pin breaks, the link is pressed on the pin's end(s). The link sheers off the stronger pin is that side of the one link
...did HE miss something?... = Yes, take that seat over there LOL

F1 mode ~ Splits up to a traffic light ~ Notices brick work at the intersections ~ Pedestrian crossing is the guess ~ Light changes ~ A too robust leave ~ Lights up the rear tire over the bricks before skid control kicks in ~ Home he backs off first instead. So was it my imagination or can we burn the tire some in F1?

Thanks hag. I want these tires to last some is the problem. The instablips this puppy does in traffic passing cars in a slow mph gate: I have this hugearganchewin smile out the helmet visor kind of throttle blips away from them. Before anyone makes a stupid move is a carving kind of day I had. I say about 3 left handers tried to make a jump on me but I could see the front ends take that dive and stop. The next idiot comes flying out an alley way where I was about to make a right turn at the corner. I would have been tea-boned.

Because of that rod and bore change, I can tell this thing has some bottom unlike the 14. The come-on feels sooner, instant, where more torque being present is that change. Ah, it just hit me. I did feel the front end go light when I was not over far, but not straight up meaning, or I wouldn't be here I imagine. Then shit! No way will I receive the same seat squat in F-1 if in L-3. F1 skid tracks ~ L-3 clean 100% cotton briefs. Tomorrow we play with F-2. See if I can make her buzz to keep the front end down sooner. Kind of made me back off or again I was DREAMING THIS. I doubt it...
... Not the kind of steering input I was giving it. OBTW, I'd correct and correct the bars in the slow crawl with the 14. I'd say the geometry now puts in less, and I mean way less bar input to stay upright coming to a stop.

I'm pretty impressed with F-2. How could you call it? I'll call it a 1/3 and a 1/3 of a rise or fall. So combo wise, you are pretty much at the sneeze bar, dressing that salad all up. It has the combination of both. The smooth is still there. The mighty bark is gone in F-1. It's just a good solid combination.

Me thinks the chain is broken in. If it wasn't for the fresh delo, it would have been much worse. My worse fear is missing a gear without clutch. I'm going to set the chain up and the way it shifted all day long, I might be making a mistake.

It's a totally different shift is delo. No other blend does this. My 50/50 straight 50w and half whatever weight, cannot match a delo. Getting back to that mode, hats off to the EE's for F-2. Creamy smooth. Guts galore. A Tour/Sport mode in a way. Where F-1 is 1/3 short of OFF you go! Yeah, F-1 is always ready mode. F-2 gets you out of that raggedged mode and lose very little. F-3 is someone holding your shorts from the back as you lean forward trying to take a step with that resistance behind you.

F-OFF is next.

Finally ~ F-Off. Took off to pay for a ticket driving defensively is another dull law/corruptwo sides to the story. I could not tell the difference, nor would I press the tires into action. I'm waiting to have those wear out so I can kskid on them and tone wheel either end to get a feel for both brake/power skids.

I stop for lunch at a local biker hangout, eat, start suiting up at the bike. 3 guys finish theirs, start down the steps to their bikes, and the one guy comes over to my bike. Starts looking at it. I'm looking at this guy with all the gear on, a few patches, badges hanging on a seasoned riding jacket.

How does a conversation start? Look at a bike and ask a question? So patches is asking me all sorts of questions and finally asks who's bike is it? Now his 2 buddies come around to the bike. How can I say this? The taller one or the younger one was it? Or was he in the middle? He asks are there parts missing and I said you should see this bike with the fairing on it, it's stunning or something like that and he comes back with 'something ain't right with this' kind of wonderment you gotta think? I'm telling him how fast these are, but I want it faster so off comes the weight scenario.

Then, I guess I brought up age and asked patches how old he was? 82. I started clapping, laughing, saying I've got a few more years of riding if you are at that age! The tall one with a full all white head of hair says, 'oh, rider #3, he's the younger one, I'm 70'something. I had to pick up patches bike one time when it fell over.'

I look back at the 82 year old and he's looking over the bike and sort of stumbles like you wanna grab him before he lands head first. So he moves like his age, but he still can handle those big tubs they were on. Patches was talking about his old GL he once had. Ah, GL, the patches, the old farts, and then I think we are the pre-farts on one of these.

Cool.As for the F-off thing....I mentioned earlier that I could feel a difference.Well...I THINK I can...what I mean is...you know my ecu was flashed...flies opening sooner.Ignition bumped some.It does feel like the bottom end is 'stronger'...meaning...I can spin the rear quite easily with it in this mode.It could just be my imagination though...the feel.It didn't seem to spin so abruptly in F-1...some...a shade...but not like this. And it does feel more aggressive getting on the gas in roll-ons and passing and such.Again...that could just be me getting more into it...This thing is terribly strong and fast.I'm not even close to what it can do....not even.

"brake/power skids"...I still haven't been able to get mine to lock...it just won't(or I can't get it to).

Because of the break in, the slowing down some in general, the F degrees, I still get to digest some traffic; are the short spurts. I can recall a smart getaway happened so quick, it's really a kick having this skid track device planted in the bike. And those skid tracks are in the 100% cotton briefs meaning.

Whatever setting it was on, whereas [I've been toggling positions during] mid rides, I lost track? I'll find this one again, but to carry the front wheel over the intersection with the first gen bike was rare but doable. Usually it's felt, I let off, or shift to 2nd quick to stop it. The ape does it all day long is where I transferred that confidence over from the gs-bmw days. With the R's power it carries and then plants itself down before you know it's happening: it is that fast on the input. It is that smooth in transition. Sort of crispy linear, not abrupt to a slamming down there of is how it feels.

The same happened the other day with the translap bike. I'm toggling changes at lights, here I make a pass on this bike and the subs begin to sound like fuel or spark knock from those fluttering. And then again, it's scary to be cranked over, add more throttle, then feel the front end come up to the point of being loose as a goose. They may have to work on some little fork internal extensions w/gyro sensors, about to tell the ECU the bike is becoming airborn in so many degrees off 180.

There goes the undies. Yes but it's good shit, Mrs. Crestease!

I'm lugging away on freeway at about L2 or L3? Tame, so tame is the beast. The traffic gets heavy I pull over. If I need to split lanes or sustain 65, I need to plant that bike right about here and before you know it, 80 on the blip.
As I sat there scrolling for F and a 1, I look in back of me so I can get back in lane?

Then I turn my head around and see how I have a straight shot still using the side of the emergency lane that is closing down much narrower to where you can no longer pull over. I see this truck coming and when I took off, I get this wheelie going and I'm thing, all that cop has to do is see that and as I lifted to shift out of it, I may have met miss intervention at the same time.

I had that much time carrying that front end thinking that. Grn, you gotta stick your gopro aimed at that front tire and F3-2-1-Off do it to it 4 times the mode. You're missing the slot car fun!

Two guys were in an open jeep driving in the fast lane. Traffic was creeping along. As short as the thought occurred, I gave a squirt off that tin can you should heard that echo off both cars in those closed quarters. You couldn't ask for a better squirt bike watching the doors closing in.
