It terms of stright line speed its going to bash every Jap bike and maybe even the BMW. That is going to be a seriously fast bike even in stock US config.

In terms of power to weight ratio both bike have fueled curb weight that is with in 4lbs of each other(so they say) Hp edge still BMW, What do you base the above on ?

I hadn't heard the Beemer is depreciating so quickly, I would have thought just the opposite. Are these bikes grenading out there in service, is that why they are losing resale so rapidly?

Just what you stated power to weight ratio from what’s been said the US bike is going to make a legit 180hp and weigh 436lbs(non abs) that will be more than enough to out run every jap bike made today. I used the word "maybe" when I made reference to the BMW only because 3-4 peak HP and 4lbs either makes it a toss up.

Romans, a motorcycle, like anything else assembled by man, is often greater than the sum of it's parts....and the reverse can be true also.

How many times have we seen a bike that has average brakes, power, handling etc. but something about the individual components just seem to work together, to flow. Some folks call it synergy and some call it balance but whatever it is, it's real. You just can't quantify it, you have to feel it.

The Beemer may turn out, in the end, to be less than the sum of it's parts. Yea it's got a kick ass topend motor but from what I've heard, brakes, handling, low end and midrange power are not all that great, kinda one dimensional. Maybe that's why it's not winning in WSB yet and if it blows up on a regular basis and drops in value $8500 in the first year...??

Let's wait and see what the new ZedEx-10 can do. Heck, over on the 10r forum there's guys still debating whether the old Gen I was better than the Gen II and Gen III.

In some ways we seem to haver hit a technological wall, I've heard of guys making simple mods to 10 year old liter bikes and kicking some butt on the latest iron.

Maybe this new race traction controlled and light weight 10R from KHI will be the next greatest thing and a true breakthrough in performance.

But just so we are clear the new zx10 is going to kick ass and take names of every Jap bike and MAYBE even the BMW.Its not hard to see that really just look at how close the CBR,zx10 and GSXR were last year now add traction control, ABS add 20hp and drop weight and better front suspension than last year’s zx10.I would love to have one but I won't pay 15k for a Jap bike and I'm not sure to many other people will either. However I would pay 16,500 for a Ducati 1198 even though it’s slower overall because its worth 16,500 the zx10 is just a $13000 retail price bike dressed up in $2000 dollar suit. Trust me Honda and Suzuki will be right behind Kaw with a bikes that will cost 16k just wait and see.

Chazzman or anyone else please post the dealer that is letting a demo S1000rr go for $8500 I think I know a guy that will buy it today

Most of them will need new ignitions and keys but what the hell do you want for 1000 bucks. You will have to get your own title because the former owners of those bikes lost the titles in most cases. They will meet you in a parking lot with the bike parked on the other end of the lot once you hand them the 1000 in cash they might shoot you or just tell you to take the bike who knows. Willidx4, I love your sense of humor. In my post I gave links to our local price 4 second hand BMWs. The parking lot thing ,,,,,, well,,,, NO, lol. Ok What is the real price of a second hand BMW in the states. If they really do lose there value as stated above, please post a link as I did. I just want to see if these remarks are solid and fair. No foul called, just curious.

Romans, an online nationwide search at Cycle Trader showed up a range of $16,200 to $14,495 for used 2010 BMW S1000RRs. They are not giving these things away, not sure where the $8500 figure came from unless that is a low wholesale figure on a trade-in.

What's interesting if you read those ads, a lot of those Beemers are under 500 total miles. Who buys one of these things and decides they don't want it in 500 miles? I mean you haven't even got the performance restrictor software off of there yet and you're already selling it? It's gotta be total squids who figured they'd buy the fastest bike out there with TC and become an instant badboy....it doesn't work that way unfortunately.

Posers 3 miles to the Starbucks and once around the neighborhood afterwards every Staurday keeps the milage low.Nothing depreciates like a Jap bike think about this I bought my CBR for 8k almost two years ago when some people in IL were still paying close to retail 11,600. I took the bike to a Duc dealership in NC a few weeks ago and they offred me 6100. If I paid retail for the bike the hit would have been $5500 or almost 48% in less than two years. Granted I might be able to get a little more in a private sale but its not worth the hassle or the risk.Besides I would pay less taxes with a trade in plus cash versus buying the bike without a trade in. So in the long run buying a Jap sportbike is way more expensive than buying a Euro bike. So I guess that means a 16675 loaded S1000 is going to be cheaper to own after two years than a 15k 2011 zx10r this exactly the reason I will never buy another brand new Jap bike unless I can buy it for 4k under retail. I guess if you are the type to hold on to a bike for a long time its not an issue.

sorry Romans no 8500 dollar s1000rr for you. Apparently he was saying if you traded in a bike for $8175 dollars you could get the BMW for $8500. I hve no idea how that means the BMW depreciates fast.

All this means is they want to kill aftermarket pipes which have been illegal for street use for as long as I can remeber anyway. Yet 95% of all sportbikes and 100% of all Harleys have some type of illegal exhaust. I wouldn't worry to much about this unless you are being held in camp California.

That Honda will still be a fast bike 10 years from now, heck the way things are going we may all be riding 250cc mopeds by then loaded down with 400 lbs of government mandated safety and emission equipment.
