The big selling point for me was getting rid of those cats in the mufflers,, you get rid of a shitload of heat, and I mean shitload..

+1 we forgot about that one, didn't we. My engine runs cooler and the exhaust runs 10x cooler. I can hold my hand on the muffler 5 minutes or less after shutdown even if the bike had run up to 5 bars.

Not bad.

My entire brake light pulses, fast at first, then the rate decays, then it ends up on solid.

Not sure of your point, or what you mean.

Mine is idling almost as good as it gets before I ride down my driveway. After riding a while, it gets to a good solid idle when I'm stopped.

The only reason I twist the throttle is to go.

Squids blip throttles. Car, bike, HD, Ninja, no matter. Squids.

I would not warm that bike at a standstill, nor will I let it hour down at a light it'sill tight.

When I start up my bike, I take off and run less than 2k as I leave the neighborhood.
I will not sit at a traffic light, keeping an idle in play. I have less hours sitting at lights or on the garage drive.
Therefore, the bike should have less time running. Make sense now about my point of less hours on bike?

Alright take the cagers hearing you out of the equation with the four points of kruz & tainted tatoo's one that makes FIVE Very Valid Points , Weight; looks Sound; Performance & a "Shit load of heat in Summer Traffic" besides if they don't hear my exhaust which is only at "5 db's over stock" I'm sure as Hell they will hear my 135db horn, As that will go right through the Cagers "air-conditioned, load music & non-concentrating" mini- sleeps and brenny's got two of the same on his!!

Bean, don't you love blasting your loud horn and having the cages try to figure out where the truck is?

That is one way to do the initial warm up, Hub, but not the only way.

I roll mine out, start it, bring my gear out, go in the garage to the side door, close the electric roll up, turn the lights off, lock the side door, and walk around the garage to the bike. Put my gear and helmet on, get on the bike, ride off. Bike is properly warmed up.

I sit at traffic lights because I have no choice. Its part of street riding. Who cares how many hours this adds, its part of street life for many riders.

Not sure what your point is, Hub. In what is now 40 years of riding, I have warmed bikes up idling on the driveway and sat at stop lights when they were between where I came from and where I was going (I live in the real world) and none of my bikes have ever suffered negative effects because of it.

Ok,,,

Works great in heavy traffic privateer. Their are times when you can tell a driver does not see you and is about to make a stupid move. Make some noise and they will look. Signal light goes off. Try it. The life you save may be your own. Any thing that Helps us be seen is worth a try. These pipes we have make a nice deep tone. They will look. Test it for yourself, works.

Privateer,

I can't break old habits. I was convinced by 'the shell answer man,' explaining a long time ago to start car-take off slow.
I can't break old habits. I was convinced by the way bikes came in for service, how quick their sync would fall off after a few hundred miles. I would walk my bike to the grid so I would have the sync as crisp as possible if you can believe that stupid shit.
I can't break old habits. I have to convince myself down to the thinnest layer, we start to peel away the tune, the crisp, the compression; every 360° turn of the crank was like a wood chipper smoothing out that round log square like a 2x4.
I can't break old habits. I have too much stupid in me I keep going like that bunny rabbit.

It's cracks me up privateer, I haven't had the opportunity to use them for what they are intended but since I fitted the Stebel horns I've had all sorts of fun with the traffic, a quick press of the horn button and heads start spinning around looking for the truck....LOVE it

I got mine from ebay Edge, only cost about $30 worth every penny.

First, everything I write is based on 40+ years of riding. You must grant that being alive, and not having injuries from riding after all this time means I'm either the luckiest rider on the East Coast, or have been doing things right.

Ok, so...."make some noise and they will look". Again, CHP and MSF and AMA et.al. have all found in numerous studies that loud pipes don't save lives, nor do they change accident statistics, at all. They also found that loud horns work because cage drivers are conditioned to react to horns and check lest they get t-boned or something. They also found that flashing to steady brake light progressions are best rear-end protection, closely followed by neon orange and yellow upper body clothing and helmets.

If you dress in black or dark clothes, and your average sportbike-oriented helmet, you are invalidating all the things you think will keep you safe, by removing a huge percentage of the factors which prevent motorcycle fatalities. Re-read this....

Most of the time when you blip the throttle and someone looks at you, if you pay attention, you will see they are irritated. It doesn't mean they didn't see you, it means they don't appreciate your loudness. This fact came out in the CHP study, because they interviewed a large number of cage drivers, both those involved in motorcycle fatalities and serious accidents, and those that weren't.

Which is not the same thing as taking steps to be safer.

Squids blip throttles. And most of the time with the air on, and the radio on, I can't hear anything but a pair of open shotgun pipes sitting next to me. But I can see them do it. Blip, Blip, Blip. Whats wrong, won't it idle?

The guy coming up behind you not seeing you will run you down before he hears you. He has to SEE you for it to matter. The guy coming over into your lane has to see you to correct, or hear a horn. Blip your throttle and watch him come on over top of you.

Edit: go ask your local MSF Total Control and/or Experience Rider instructor, s/he will verify all this.

I have had SEVERAL cagers decide to not change lanes onto me after they heard me blip my throttle. I don't care what the studies say, I've seen it with my own eyes.

Yup. Make some noise in my blind spot and I begin to look. Privateer I know you do too. Pissed off or not, you look. And the bike rider can see you look. Win Win.

When the signal light goes off And they don't run me into the lane I don't have, I have succeeded . More than one occasion.

Try it in heavy traffic, if it does not help I will buy you a beer. Best I got.

And no I do not wear a T-Shirt that says "Loud pipes save lives" ROFL.

"I don't care what the studies say"....

Do you guys know who you sound like?

Harley guys (and others to be fair) about helmets.

Car people about seat belts 20 years ago.

Car and bike people about catalytic converters 30 years ago.

All these were contradicted based on studies. All valid. Helmets save lives. Seat belts save lives. Smog control works. Blipping a throttle is a false sense of security at best.

Jeffe wrote:

I've had lots of things happen to me which do not dispprove the results of studies, even though it looks like they do from my viewpoint. You might consider this.

Several? Versus 10,000 in one study and 50,000 in another. Sorry, Jeffe seat-of-the-pants versus careful statistical studies, no contest. Yes, statistics lie, if you want them to. As far as I know, CHP and AMA and MSF never have a hidden agenda. CHP even debunked a number of myths over the decades, like red cars get the most tickets (wrong), and Harley riders are safer riders than Sportbike riders (wrong, they are statistically the same in accident statistics).

But go ahead, blip. We'll laugh at you and call you squids. Hopefully nobody ever gets hurt.

Hub's slappin' isn't strong enough to matter. He fails to make factual, logical points 90% of the time, and runs when confronted by strong logic and fact.

Which has nothing to detract from the value of his technical knowledge. Such as can be understood.

Dayum!

I second... the laughing part. Sometimes, when Iyam alone in my room, I wear stretchy pants, is for fun.... woah there..I got a little off track there, I meant to say sometimes when I am sitting on the side of the road and some fool pulls up to the light playing with his throttle I like to point obnoxiously at him and laugh while my friends are all laughing and pointing as well. Kinda makes em think to themselves, 'I'm stupid'. I feel a little childish when I do this but I think it's for a good cause. Poor kids don't realize how dumb they look.

Now there's this guy who gets stopped at the light outside my office window who has this franken bike street fighter-which looks like it loses more fights than it wins thing and he does the blipity blip blip, but I see the two foot long car red cherrybomb hangin off his header and realize that I should feel sorry for him because his bike obviously won't keep running stopped at the light and he's mentally retarded and everyone knows how politically incorrect it is laugh and point at 'tards these days.
