I hear ya Drag, I'm looking into it but it's going to be a maybe once a month thing at best, going to the track is expensive.

Yes it is! When you factor in mods, gas etc riding high performance machines is really expensive!

DSC Eligibility:
You are not eligible to take DSC/MOTC if:

•You hold a Commercial Drivers License (CDL);
•You have taken a Court-ordered DSC for another ticket within one year from the date of this citation;
•You are charged with:
•95 miles per hour or more;
•Speeding 25 miles per hour or more over the posted speed limit;
•Passing a school bus;
•Committing a serious traffic violation;
•Failing to stop and provide information or render aid after an accident;
•Committing an offense in a construction zone when workers are present;
•You do not have a valid Texas Drivers License**

I printed the Texas State Statute above, as long as you meet the criteria, particularly not in excess of 25 mph over the posted limit you are able to take Defensive Driving and have the ticket dismissed.

Since I was ticked only 24 mph over, I am eligible for the DSC Course, very good news! I'm pretty sure the officer that pulled me over was well aware of that and gave me a back door out, seemed like a decent guy.

Drag, how many tickets have you had and how are you "managing" that?

I have got probably 3 in the last three years. 2 I was able to get dismissed through driver education classes and talking to the DA, the other one will haunt me at least for the next two years (misdemeanor). It hurts so much that I'm still not ready to talk about it! All of them were in Lincoln, NE where cops have nothing else to do. I have been told Austin was bad but it's nothing compare to NE. Basically, I got my license suspended but I never renewed it since I had to get one in Texas. I had to fly to appear in court twice and when you add that to court costs, lawyer fees and fine, income loss etc you're looking north of 3 grand. The lawyer managed to postpone the trial dates a couple of times so the ticket won't show until next year on my insurance but then
If I remain ticket free, I will be able to get a lawyer and have it erased of my record (another 3 grands). If that doesn't cheer you up my friend you're probably dead inside.
I did ceased to ride for a while but then bought CT-Duals...
We make fun of how HD are expensive but you take a sport bike like the 14 which is made for big open sweepers speed (not the tight roads where the chance of getting a ticket are considerably lower)and easy to ride fast, you add the mods, the protective gears and the tickets and all of sudden the HD lifestyle doesn't sound so obnoxious lol
Again the track is where we should take it. I ride with this nice fellow in his early 40's. He said he used to get tickets quite often but now racing and track days give him such a buzz that he takes 3 maybe 4 weeks of abstinence to make him want to push it in the street. Unless you're plain stupid track days will always be more expensive than spirited riding in the street. It is safer, no doubt, but you crash more often. go through tires in a couple of days, parts, frequent oil changes etc but it's either that or jail.

" all of sudden the HD lifestyle doesn't sound so obnoxious lol"....funny you would notice that...I mean...in MY experiences with my Ninjas...they certainly have either topped or surpassed the spending line compared to my Harleys I had!Not that I care....I love the 14's..but still...yeah...they can get downright expensive.I think in 18,000+miles with my Harley...I replaced the rear tire once.My Ninjas...shit....three in one short 5 month riding season!That's average with my 14's.Sheesh!

Kruz---I'm going to call you later. Been buried here at work, BUT that is good news and should be an easy way out of the ticket. I will say again though that mine was 69 in a 50 on 377 in Roanoke and I hired a traffic Attorney, $50, he represented me in court, got me deferred ajudication, (90 days without another ticket in Denton Co), court costs, $200 I think, and that was it. No record, no points, no insurance notification and I'm off probation essentially. The task now is to not get another one for 12 months, over 25 MPH, (actually thought it was 20), because I won't get that deal again IN Denton Co. So, when I'm riding in Denton Co., it's much easier. Each County sets it's own limitations on how often you can plead for deferred ajudication, so essentially it's no more than one ticket a year. If I got one in Wise Co for example, I could essentially do the same thing, even if I was on probation in Denton. I have had at least 6 car tickets dismissed in a similar manner or tossed out by hiring a traffic attorney. In Tarrant Co., particularly Ft Worth there is only one to go to. I'll give you his name. If it's in Ft Worth proper, you'll never pay anything other than the lawyer $50 fee since they are so backed up. Three of mine were eventually just dropped for FTW cop failing to appear, after 18 months! All of that of course is if the violation is for less than 25mph over. Anything more than that and you'll end up paying the court and the insurance company.

going to the track is expensive.

I almost pissed myself when you posted this. I wish you luck on the ticket.

I had a near miss on my 14...about 140mph, crested a hill and there was a Sheriff writing a lady a speeding ticket. Thank goodness it wasn't a Texas Trooper, or I would have been screwed. I just rolled into the throttle and kept going. As soon as I hit I-10, there were two New Mexico troopers on the highway. I hit New Mexico and spent the rest of the afternoon with my ass puckered. Drove home that evening like a church lady.

Talk about Ironic...I was driving to do a track day.

You got that right, Texas State Troopers are a different breed of animal and they will chase and run you down or throw a road block up ahead. You cannot outrun their radio!

When I got busted Sunday, there was a State Trooper about fifteen minutes behind the first, if I had even thought about running, the first would have radioed ahead for a road block. Your only chance would be to get enough lead and take a side road. Much better to immediately pull over like I did and be sure to SMILE to defuse the situation, they don't know if you are a running felon or just out for a joy ride! I've heard of guys being let go for insane speeds because it was a deserted road with no traffic and they offered no resistance and a good attitude. Plus getting a cool trooper doesn't hurt. At the worst, they may write you up for a much lower speed if they think you are not a danger and of course, your record comes up relatively clean.

Plus no Defensive Driving class, eight hours of your life wasted in sheer bordedom. I tried Comdedy Defensive Driving once and I think it was actually worse. A young kid taught the class and his attempts at humour were lame at best. You know, where everyone starts faking laughter just because it's so grim! By the end of the afternoon we were begging him to stop the jokes and just teach us something ...lol!

Well now I'm a bit concerned again, I just called the JP for the county the citation was issued in and was told that Defensive Driving is at the discretion of the court. The State statute gives clear eligibility requirements, if you meet these requirements how can they deny you the right to take Defensive Driving? In other words if the JP presiding that day doesn't like your appearance or is having a bad day he can ruin yours. That is disturbing to me.

It sucks. But its the law. And the laws are getting harsher.

Do 30 over in Maryland, bike goes to impound lot (and they do NOT handle it carefully) and you spend at least 3 days in detention. I used to get my ZX14 30 over in 1st gear, for heaven's sake.

But the harsh reality is, if you want to speed, then you must accept the consequences. And like I've written many times before, keep doing it long enough and something bad will happen.

I was comin around that curve..leaned in and diggin at 140+...he was comin the opposite direction...radar on his driverside door there...at least 100...maybe more.I didn't see him...he probably didn't even see me....I slowed down on the next straight just in case.And on into the next uphill sweep.....where I promptly opened her up again....gone baby!I don't think I'll ever forget that chance encounter...classic....

This thread does have an alcoholic anonymous vibe! lol

And the laws are getting harsher.

And the bikes are getting faster.

Honestly, I do understand the guys who try to outrun the cops. They probably don't have jobs that require a clean driving record etc So they take their chances! If your bike is getting impounded and you're going to jail, you may as well add flee to avoid to the reckless riding and the other good juicy stuff they're going to add!

I really watch it on the sweepers! Too easy to get nailed there. I like the tight corners, no way for the popo to park there without being a hazard and when they pass you in the opposite direction, they can't turn around to come get you. Do you have any roads like 337 E up north? We have a couple here. During the summer LE will wait in the long final straight trying to nail somebody but if you're wise you're doing the speed limit by then.

"This thread does have an alcohol anonymous!"....yes...but drinking Hemlock will pretty much guarantee you won't be using the twelve steps anytime soon

Can you imagine standing begore God...He asks ya..."well,what's up?"

You tell him.."well Sir...I got this piddly ticket while breaking the law on my highly dangerous motorcycle...yes...and I just couldn't bear living with it anymore...so...."

"So you 'escaped' your 'punishment so to speak?"

"Well...yes...I guess it could be seen that way"...

"Hmm" says God..."okay...your final appearance...here...in the highest court...where's yer 50.00 lawyer?"...He ditched ya again did he?Oh go on in....you made it...case dismissed!....BTW...slow it up a tad will ya...these streets here are made of that 'soft gold"...you know....not the best thing for railing on yer Ninja......have a great forever....we'll talk again";)
