I had that happen twice. Once with each of my bikes. Both times it was at the end of the season and I was going for one last good romp. Both times it was a real tight corner - a hair pin, really. I was only doing about 30-35 but the corners were posted 10 mph. The roads and the air were cold and the tires didn't stick (they were stock tires on both occasions). I've seen pro racers drift slide around a corner with the front and back alternating - sort of like the bike is walking sideways a little bit. I'm wasn't ready to find out if that was what my bike was going to do. I straightened up and braked. I ended up clear across the oncoming lane both times. There is very little traffic out there but I'm still lucky nobody was coming the other way.

I've asked about that. Other people tell me they have a little bit on the front but none on the back. Seems strange but mine are bigger on the front, too.

This became a thread full of excuses. Anybody else trying to justify owning a sport bike?

My doctor told me if i wanted to ride a bike, i had to get a bike where i had to lean forward, since my backspine isn't straight, but lies a bit to the front. So i couldnt chase my dream of being a actual Hells Angel / Harley rider. So i had to go with a R6 unfortunatly. Also, i have something with my polses, if i dont move them once in a while they lock up, and we dont want that to happen, especially my right polse, so i move it around once in a while.

There's always an excuse. Even when you fall. "I was riding beyond my skills." Remember? Everyones's done that and most got lucky enough to just have a close call. If somebody dies or has life altering injuries, it doesn't matter what kind of excuse you have(had). I'd rather have an excuse for keeping myself and my bikes in one piece.

I don't know if I should ask but what or where is a polse?

And even more excuses from Rook.
FYI you sign a release form when you enter a track event- you accept the fact that you might crash and that it could result in a total loss of the bike and serious or fatal injuries.
It's not if but when you crash. My high-side from last summer had nothing to do with you riding a zx14 with 1" chicken strips on your rear tire- that's only indicative of how you ride your bike which is crawling through turns and keeping the bike upright.
If your next excuse is that this bike is too big and heavy,
the superlights and supersports allow for far greater lean angle which will
be even more useless for the riding you do.
I just really can't help but laugh at your critisism about my crash since you've never even been to a track in your life. I was wearing proper gear and I could afford rebuilding my gsxr- I will be at Loudon in April again.
I have a feeling you still are going to be here on the forum posting about your street races and fast riding in the twisties oblivious to what "fast" on a sports bike means.
You can choose to stick to your excuses or learn how to ride at a track school- second option might actually help
you with your body position and bike control which will eliminate those unused side walls
of your tires.
To some of the others people who posted their excuses- there are plenty of bikes that are riden on the street that have no unused tire strips, including zx14s.
I'm not trying to lecture anyone here- ride your bikes however you wish.
But please, don't full yourself about something so obvious as a center tire wear- it means one thing and one thing only...

That's what I thought. Polst/wrist--sounds almost the same. Glad you were talking about your wrists. lol

No chicken strips when I had my zx14 and of course none on the CBR but all that proves is that I ride way to fast on the street and always used way more lean angle than I should have. Hence the reason I'm doing so many track days this year hopefully I can break some of those bad habits. Hey Rook Blackhawk Farms should be about an hour from you I will be out there this spring/summer with NESBA in the B(beginners group). If you have been ridding for a while I can't see you having any trouble keeping pace even on a Busa or zx14. This video is a B guy at blackhawk farms.

That looks really cool, willid. I have to see what that would cost and at least get out there and get some information ASAP.

I think that guy almost got bounced off dragging some leather on that one corner. He didn't give up but it looks like that scare caused him a leg cramp. I bet he was enduring the pain and hoping it would go away.

that track looks a little better than wiping out on a county highway. You got trees FCOL. Looks exciting to fly under the trees like that but i wouldn't want to be sliding toward a trunk.

Anyone else making or tweaking noise for living?

Made lots of records and toured the world for the last 30 years. And that's about all I'm going to say here!

But back to topic: Get a 600 or a 750, Rook, or even a 10. Only one way to find out for yourself, and a lot of us need to find things out for ourselves, even when the contradictory advice is really good. And +1 Kruz' St. Barnabas reference. Keep it up. And you too, Mass, your ride gives us all something to admire, mod-wise.

^^We don't really have A Topic, Jay. I think it's pretty much a free for all. Yeah, I getting turned on to those smaller bikes. If I decided I was really into track riding, I might just go that way.

Thanks, Kruz. I've been around long enough that I won't let a negative comment here and there run me off. We still have a lot of good information around. Not so much on this thread but a lot of us aren't doing much riding now so why not? It seems to be entertaining for a few of us.

Yup, people do tend to get crabby when they haven't ridden in awhile, I've noticed this on some other forums. Let's just write it off as cabin fever.

Now back to those chicken strips, I can almost guarantee you'd have those burnt off inside of two laps on any decent track Rook. The traction is so much better and more reliable there, heck you'd prolly have a knee down by the end of the day. Too many variables out on the street, rush hour traffic, oil, antifreeze, gravel, sand, wet leaves, stray animals, drunks , you get the picture. If you were to burn those strips off on the street, you might impress a few people you don't know and probably don't like....... for all of about 5 minutes. If you bust your @$$ trying though, I can guarantee you'll remember that for a long, long time. Is it worth it, ten minutes from now will you really care what a stranger from Massachusetts thinks? Think about it.

With all the crap left out on the road after winter, I doubt I'll be doing much hard cornering until mid May. That tire will be square by that time because I plan to be riding as soon as I stop seeing salt collect on my car. That will probably be about the end of March. We'll have some new tires around that time. I can probably get into a training class at Road America soon after.

Kruz, I think you and Rook are a match made in heaven!
Is there anything else you have never done (other that track riding) but would like to offer your insider's advise?
I saw you had the knee dragging part well covered...

You two sure can write that OJ Simpson's book "If I did it"!

^^Something weird is going on with that link but I talked to that guy last summer so i can find him again. He was way TF in Kaukauna but I bet he'd store it until summer. $7,800 is what i was looking for!! I'm calling tomorrow. But I'm hanging on to the 14 if I can get a good enough deal.

100 percent correct, Kruz. I must be honest and say that I am a bit wary of doing a track day cause I think I will overdo it and then ooops! Naa, I will live with my chicken strips and enjoy my bike in one piece. Keep riding.

Mass, are you so miserable that the only joy you can find in this life is to try and put down everyone around you? Your attacks don't bother me, what concerns me is the condition of your soul. Hope this is just a phase and you get it all sorted out.
