Thank God That guy didn't buy my bike
01/22/10 5:02 PM

I offered to sell today. The guy went with an older 14 with lower miles and 500$ lower asking price. I wasn't the least bit disappointed. Kind of relieved, actually.

^^I'm not sure I get you Mass.

Not the post -- YOU.

The sense of humor, it doesn't work for you. . Not on the internet.

I dunno. Maybe it's just me.

Way to lighten up the thread, blue! I'm all for that.

Remember, I have 2 spaceships and one of them hasn't seen too many voyages yet. I guess I want that ZX-10 preetty bad. There's some good deals out now so I took a shot at pulling in most of what I would need to cover it. I don't know how i would have felt if the guy would have taken me up on it. Kinda good kinda not so good. It was the first time i ever talked about selling. Be nice to have all three bikes. Have to say, owning a literbike would make modding the 14 to be more like a literbike a lot less relevant.

It wouldn't be so bad to wait a year or more before I got a smaller bike. A used literbike might even be a good way to go some day.

C'mon Rook-you don't REALLY want to go full on with the litrebike do ya?Unless yer goin to do track days or somethin. That I could see.Ya.But look at how much you've enhanced yer 14-she's just great! And you've got a Classic"the most powerful production bike on the planet".You will want to go cruisin and bruisin on yer big bird.No question there?Don't get me wrong Rookster-a litrebike is fine-go for it if ya want.I'm too stuck on my 14 to ever want to get anything different that I can see....besides-I've NEVER ridden a litrebike-so what the hel@ do I know!!!

I think a hyperbike is a better all around choice. You can do pretty much everything. At some point, I could see having a literbike. Track days are something I would like to do. I don't think it would hurt to learn what I have better before getting a smaller bike but the deals are good now and i really believe this is the last time we're going to see them. I give all of this stuff too much thought. I should just let things happen. what's the big deal, right?

It's ok. I said a lot of dumb things into my 30s. If someone clocks you upside the head, that's good. If they don't bring it to your attention, that's bad because that means they have excluded you.

Rook, Wise and well said.

You're correct Rook- I should have known the type of mood your in.
Don't have to look far back to remember how you felt regarding certain topics such as: gen1 zx14 vs gen2 zx14,
gen2 Busa vs zx14, lighter wheels or not on a zx14, mod the zx14 or not etc.

What gives?

You always wanted a sports bike. Finally after years of lusting you go out and you buy a zx14- this bike is the best thing ever! You ease into it and learn how to ride it. But there are guys on these forum that put aftermarket parts and mod these bikes and you feel like you're behind again. You want to keep the bike stock, no need for more go. But you're not sure and it's itching you to go that route. Then you also realize that bone stock any dyno and scale pointed out to clear advantage gen 1 zx14 vs gen2 zx14. We discuss it in a thread- you freak out on me and a few others (for no reason IMHO), then offer an appology (for no reason again IMHO), all good- this is the way forums usually are.
Then what's next- that gen2 Busa. You went ahead and nearly lost your sanity over that magazine test that clocked the Busa being 1 sec faster from 0-180 mph. You were ready to trade the 14 in or sell. Threads are posted- you get offended again and things are said, again things go back to normal and the unnecessary drama is left behind.
Next year comes around and the 14 is 1 sec faster in the same test...
You buy the Busa- cool bike and all. Problem is- now you've got two of the same. Two big, overweight and overpowered bikes. But now you have interests in dragging a knee here and there and maybe doing a track day. Now what to do?
You love the 14 but the Busa is brand new, can't afford a 3rd bike or just don't want a garage full at this point.
Kruz has his 10 and posts about it on daily basis- this really gets to you and now you really want one.
You offer to sell the 14 to someone and then are glad for not doing it- seems like it kills you though, you keep the one you want and love but don't get the other one you want.
We have this thread (scroll up and read it), you loose your cool again and act like a 12 year old over a joke that meant nothing. But I knew the reaction that I was going to get and did it again, just in case. Not everyone gets me and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

What's next? You get that 10r and realize at your first track day that your brand new bone stock 1000 is being walked through the turns by the 600s. You are probably going to get really upset and freak out on someone who brings it up in a thread, probably me. Or even worst- you happen to post on the wera forums or your local track day forums and those guys are going to rip you a new one with the mentioning of bringing a brand new 10 for a track day.

I'm younger and push the buttons, you're not the only one who might not agree with me or appreciate my sense of humor.
I've been there and done that though, you're well aware of the my bikes and interests and where I ride.

I'd offer this as an advice to you- buy yourself a used $3K 600 or 750 and learn how to ride it on a track. Keep the 14 for now- you will not be able to buy as much bike for what you're going to get for it.
There are many track bikes for sale and some only need lights to be put and registered on the street.
There was a really nicely setup track 04 zx10 for around $3K on Ebay, I almost bought it myself.
If you go ahead and jump on a new 10r you will be in for a big surprise! With all due respect it takes a very skilled rider to get around a track fast on a beast like that. I've been doing track days since 05 and I now take a 750 to the track and not a 1000. The 07 gsxr 1000 that my girlfriend takes to the track demands a good rider, I can't ride it as fast as she can at Loudon or NJMP.

Reading some of this might help- it's more honesty and less "told you so".
Again, I wish you not to have to sell your 14 and get something else not suited for you needs.

I don't recall ever freaking out at anyone other than you, Mass. No one else seems to crack jokes that degrade into insults over multiple posts. If I have ever jumped on anyone's a$$ around here, please sound off.

We have this thread (scroll up and read it), you loose your cool again and act like a 12 year old over a joke that meant nothing. But I knew the reaction that I was going to get and did it again, just in case. Not everyone gets me and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I've been there and done that though, you're well aware of the my bikes and interests and where I ride.

As long as you are aware that that is what you are doing, there's no purpose in discussing it. I don't need to know why anyone would take pleasure in irritating some else. My 5 year old does the same thing because she gets a kick out of the fact that she is finally able to influence her environment. That's about all I need to know. I have no problem with your jokes, just that you pursue them rather aggressively or relentlessly and this behavior is berating from someone who has superior knowledge.

To tell you the truth, I'm not freaking out at all about the ZX-10 like I did the busa. It isn't going to compare to the hyperbikes for all around sport/street riding. It's in a different class and the only concern would be other literbikes which seem to be as close in performance to the ZX-10 as the busa is to the 14. I'd own a ZX-10 because I wanted one but not because I'm worried about how it stacks up to a hyperbike

Maybe I'll get a 600. It would be worth a look around. Getting on a track with the 14 first would probably be a good idea. A training class.

I have gone very easy on you more often than not.
Funny thing is that I always felt like you get a kick out of "influencing the environment" with your countless posts regarding mods you have never done or experinced yourself, other bikes as well.

If I had influenced somebody with interest in track riding, they should be well aware of suspension dialing, race brake pads, aftermarket rotors, ss lines, Brembo master cylinders, race rubber and pressure, rear sets and reverse shift pattern, sliders and case covers etc.
If that's not the case- taking a brand new 1000 to the track has disaster written all over it. Nothing hurts more than a wrecked new bike, ask me how I know. If you think you're just not going to crash- well, one way to find out.

I am a repeat offender of speaking my mind. If it's too much- just ignore it.

Hey Rook, I for one enjoy the heck out of your posts. The way I see it you're on a voyage of discovery and taking us along for the ride vicariously...I get a big kick out of it. You ask a lot of good questions and try to find the answers, I'll bet there's lots of others lurking around this forum that appreciate your posts as well. I see you as a kind of Barnabus, an encourager. That's refreshing when there are so many mean spirited types about. Stay just like you are is my advice.

Please don't sell the 14 to buy the 10, you're going to regret that somewhere down the road. I think you're going to get a thrill out of owning a literbike but not at the expense of selling off the 14. You just bought the Busa, it may be time to take a breather, step back, relax and focus.

There is going to be plenty of good riding weather coming soon and all kinds of deals on ZX-10s to be had. You may be able to pick up an '09 for less than the '08's are selling for now. Remember my experience, if I had waited a month I would have saved $1400 buck.

Ok Rook, you're in great shape right now, you got two of the fastest bikes in the world sitting in your garage and that's a lot to be thankful for.

My apologies if I've been seen as pushing you to jump on a 10. I'd love to see you on one if that would make you happy but in the end, you're the guy that has to pay the bill.

Funny thing is that I always felt like you get a kick out of "influencing the environment" with your countless posts regarding mods you have never done or experinced yourself, other bikes as well.

I see no reason why anyone not speculate about mods or bikes and make others aware of information found on other forums. If we all just say what we have experienced by picking mods and bikes at random most of us are pretty limited by time and cash resources. I encourage anyone to point out information that is false or unproven by experience. This is the internet.

I am a repeat offender of speaking my mind. If it's too much- just ignore it.

No, I'll continue to read it because there is some great information and opinions(like what you have written in the last couple posts about power/handling/weight and track riding) every now and then after the wise cracks. Too bad you aren't more willing to share that up front more often. I guess i will have to get that information from someone else.

That's it for me. I'm not going to sit and argue on the forum. PMs would have been better but I don't think it's really that serious.

Really f*ckin' off topic, but what's your interest in music about?

Very cool! This is what my dad does (and has been doing since before I was born)
for living.
I'm a pro musician myself but can't go into details on the forum. I'm one of those guys behind a huge drumset,
for good or bad I've never had a real job.

Anyone else making or tweaking noise for living?

Meh don't be a Crybaby! Tell me about the Band.

Nice, Guess it's in the family huh.

I also do Guitar and Piano, but more to flow along with the Bands, and give myself an easier time to tell them what should be different for example, or timing.
