Being asked for your registration around here is SOP any time you interact w/a cop.
I have electronic copies of all of my important documents right on my phone. Using that never occurred to me, which is kind of funny considering how geeky I am about that stuff.

The map pocket of my tank bag has a pouch in the center where I keep the registration and insurance card. Can't see it unless there's no map and there always is.

I hate carrying big wallets too, this is the wallet I've been using for several years and love it. Bought it at a bike show......

I keep my Reg and Ins card under the tool kit. I also like a big fat wallet. It once saved my ass literally when I wiped out on my CR500 on the road and slid about 100ft on my ass. The slide wore a couple layers of leather off the wallet and scratched the face off a Nickel I had in my wallet.
