Which Color?
06/23/11 1:27 PM

I'm starting to shop around for a new ZX-10R to replace the crashed one I just sold to 1Bad. I've pretty much decided to go with a '10 rather than an '11 as there are much better deals to be had on the '10 models and I like the looks better. Please no flames, I realize the '11 is a superior machine on a racetrack, I've ridden one but I think they're kinda ugly and the midrange is absolutely gutted.

I've narrowed it down to the Diablo Black and the Special Edition version in Lime Green. What do you guys think, if you were spending your own money which would you do? I admit I'm leaning towards the S.E version.

Dogo, that's exactly what I was thinking, why rehash old memories? BTW check out this ad on Cycle Trader, it's a bit of a drive, about 250 miles but they have the lowest advertised price on a S.E. I could find. What do you think they'd take if I went in with a low ball price, drive out, tax, title, license, graft everything?? From what a friend that works at a motorcycle dealership is telling me, it's definielty not a sellers market out there right now.

Man, you guys are not making life easy for me, looks like it's a split decison so far. Rook's still sitting on the fence, he's a black guy but the S.E. has him a bit intrigued. I've seen the bike in the flesh and it looks pretty cool. I'm usually not in to stickers but in this case I think Mother Kawi did a good job.

I'm calling around this morning to see what kind of a deal I can make. Dogo, appreciate the input but I don't think I'm going to get a 2010 S.E. for $8000 OTD, not in Texas anyway, maybe $10,000 OTD. Remember, Texas is ranked as the #1 economy in the U.S right now with more new job creation in the past 12 months than the rest of the lower 48 combined...acccording to a recent FOX news report. The dealers here are still moving iron out the door so they're not desperate....yet.

Never believe anything you hear on FOX news... lol

Actually, Kruz... I doubt I could get a 2010 for $8k here either... But I'd still try.

I've kind of set a defacto limit in my head of $10,300 OTD for a new 2010 SE, that's my hot button. Anything more and I'll probably walk. I'm also looking at a 2011 but the Kawi dealer I buy all my bikes from wants over $14,000 for the ABS model, drive out. Do I realy need it? Wishing I had my old 10R back but no use cryin over spilt milk, what's done is done.

BTW, speakin of leathers, what's this I hear about the Hubmeister gettin bernt over hard on a custom racing suit? Paid up front and 12 weeks later no leathers.

Man, I'm just not finding the deals anymore like I used to, what's happened? A few years ago, leftover bikes were plentiful and cheap, seems like times are changing. My dealer where I've bought my last three Kawis has only one 2011 ZX-10R left and no more due in until 2012 due to the earthquake in Japan. He's asking over $14,000 OTD for a 2011 with ABS. I'm going to go look at a 2010 SE, green/white this afternoon at another dealer but he's asking $11,999 OTD, that's too much for a 2010 IMHO. He'll have to come down or I'm not buying. I found another 2010 SE down in Lamarque near Galveston for $11,400 driveout but that's a heck of a drive. I think I could get a 2011 for right at $13,000 driveout. What would you guys pay for a 2010 SE? The one down in LaMarque, he's knocking $3000 off sticker but is that enough? What to do, what to do?

http://www.seedealercost.com/products/manufacturer-models/index/id/3/productCategorySlug/powersports I wonder if these invoice prices are accurate? If so, the dealer is only making about $300 to $400 on that 2010 SE if he sells it to me at $11,400 OTD. There is currently a $1250 rebate on the 2010 ZX-10Rs.

Yes, you do. I would be looking in that direction. It will not only be a replacement for the old ZX-10 but an update. You might consider trading off the 6 because it will be a lot like that bike. If you are going to pay 10K for a 2010, I would sure pay an extra 4 for a 2011. 1bad is right that the +35 hp is not enough extra to justify the additional 4000$ for a 2011. You could bolt on a little NOS on your 2010 for like $500 and prolly some engine building to be safe---maybe--another 700 for parts if you want to do yourself. Then start to look into weight reduction-- You are not going to shave 100-150 pounds off the 2010 no matter what you spend. So you go for more power to make up for the weight----lots more $$$ and you are getting farther away from the trimmed down track bike performance you are after.

The CBR you already own is the best power/weight bike with the most effective powerband for track riding. If you have another, a killer top end bike is the way to go. One that will be stronger than the old ZX-10. I would wait until a deal comes along. Spend the 14 (that price won't change0. A used one is still going to be horrifically expensive so I wouldn't even think about it. A couple grand more to get a new one would be worth it.

You should give a track training session with an instructor a try if you feel you would be too competitive at a track day (that would be no problem in novice class--you just speed out in front of everyone). It would change your outlook on street riding. I was off of work yesterday and we had beautiful weather but there was no way I could come close to doing what can be done at the track. I feel 10x safer at the track and I push farther and remain sort of calm----Excitement is great but the fear zone is not fun or productive-- and you how I had my little trouble last fall-----built a healthy fear in me.

Get a black 2011. Once you go black, you never go back.

Get it.

I would pay 14$ OTD for an oh'11. Do the homework on mods after you get it. Prolly be another $2,500 or shop around for used pipe and PC for cheap it will b an adventure.

I would compare dyno charts between the 6r and the 2011 zx-10. Is the power similar up through lower mid range where we are in the polite zone for street riding? Get the new 10. You know the weight is about he same and the top end is going to be insane....and just wait until you get your exhaust going----no other mods necessary. Put a turbo in the 14 some day.

Man, if my spine wasn't all messed up I would be drooling and laying down c-notes like crazy for a 2011 ZX10R. In Diablo Black, of course.

I let the racer-wannabes go for the track colors.

The 2011 comes with ABS and TC and she runs on the street just fine according to the rags. Get her in the mountains on the sick twisties and she will love you forever.

We'll I just fired an offer over to my local dealer on his one remaining 2010 SE. I offered him the same $11,402.23 I was quoted from Mainland Kawaskai in LaMarque. I even sent him the official quotation e-mail from the other dealer. If he accepts, I will most likely pick up a new 2010 ZX-10R LE in Lime Green/Stardust White this afternoon. If he won't budge then I'll keep looking. Kawasaki City said they can give me their last 2011 ZX-10R ABS in Lime Green for $13,726 drive out with a $500 factory rebate that came out today.

from your own adds the 2011 is 500.00 cheaper than the SE 2010..

i say wait and let the dealers sit on them .. and never believe what a salesman tells you ..those bikes ain't moving .. just japan ain't making alot of them ..reason for the short fall

This has got to be a tough choice for you, Kruz. --but if you can go to pasadena and get a new zx10 for 11,5 OTD I would say grab it. Even if it is not as good of a street bike, it will be something fresh and exciting. I would only go with the prev gen if you can get it cheap.

What are they asking to insure that thing? Hopefully insurance cos do not sift through all the details. They look at the engine size and assume that a smaller bike must be safer. It is really the opposite.
