Other than the full exhaust swap,
big weight savings can be had with:

the 11 oz Speedcell battery (6-7 lbs.)
race subframe (over 10 lbs. for most bikes),
race fairing stay or cf equivalent (3-4 lbs.),
removing the exhaust servo (3-5 lbs. for the gixxers and 6r/10r),
520 chain and sprocket conversion (up to 3 lbs. with smaller sprockets and DID ERV3 chain)...

On my track gixxer I went overboard and the bike is completely stripped down- removed ignition,
side stand and switch, horn, left clip on control pod, radiator fan, rear tire hugger, chain guard,
tank side trim, lighter brake calipers, lighter Woodcraft clutch and stator covers, pair mod,
lighter than oem Vortex rear sets etc.
I run a completely gutted race tail section on a R-R subframe and the bike is completely stripped of all excess lights and control harnesses and brackets- just what it needs to start up and run.
The Armour bodies race fairings are roughly 8-10 lbs. lighter than the oem set and I obviously don't use a headlight or any of the rear lights

I'm currently at around 60 lbs. lighter than stock with the oem wheels still on. It will be another 10 when I switch to BST.

It only takes a lot of time and $$$.
That's until I crash it again and then it will take a lot more of both again.

Wow Mass, that is some pretty serious weight savings (and a lot of work and money too). I'm wondering if it might be more cost effective if I just laid off the jelly doughnuts for awhile and took 60 lbs off the old bod.

That'd be free. It doesn't get more cost effective than free. Well, you'll actually be making money in a sense because you will have avoided the unnecessary expense of buying donuts. Figure how many jelly donuts would equal the cost of a subframe and then start socking it away.

Man, I just checked the Akrapovic site and found this graph for the 2009 ZX-6R with Evolution Racing exhaust system. I gotta have one just for the increase in midrange alone and the 16 lbs of weight trimmed is just more icing on the cake. Will the spending ever cease? I feel like I'm keeping the world economy floating all by myself!

Here are some of my lightweight aftermarket parts on the gsxr 750:

Yoyodyne carbon fiber race fairing stay

R-R race subframe in round tubing

AFAM sprockets and DID ERV3 chain in 520- this is the lightest chain and used in Moto GP

The smallest Speedcell weighing in at 11 0z... next to my iphone for size comparison

Full titanium Leo Vince Evo3- gixxers love the LV pipes and dyno pulls prove that

I've tweaked, replaced and/ or tinkered with everything on the bike so far.
After this pic was taken I've added a Brembo master cylinder and brake lever, cut and lightened rear brake rotor,
Woodcraft clip ons etc.

Mass is the battery you have shown in the pic above a 2.5 amp? What does bike weigh in at now with all those light weight goodies in place of the stock parts ?

Here's the battery specs:

Applications:

P1: This is the smallest and lightest of the Speedcell line. It is suitable for dirt bikes less than 525cc with a compression release, and 600cc inline 4-cylinder sportbikes running stock charging systems in race trim. Not recommended for use in street applications, or temperatures lower than 45 degrees F.

Capabilities: 120 amp discharge (this is similar to CCA for lead acid batteries); 2.3 amp hour capacity

Dimensions: 60mm (L) x 60mm (W) x 75mm (H); 380 grams (13.4 oz) with the Quick Disconnect Harness

Haven't put the bike on a scale yet but weighed some of the oem and aftermarket parts as I was building it.
Will get the wet weight asap

Good job Mass, your level of committment is commendable! I will definitely look into the Speedcell batteries for my rides as an easy weight savings but would like to keep the amp-hour ratings realistic for street use. I can't think of many things I find more aggravating than a dead battery when I'm looking forward to a ride. Don't know for sure where I'm heading with my riding, track focused or street focused. I do know that going fast in a straight line doesn't thrill me much anymore, no skill involved, just huevos. Cornering is where it's at, at least for me. The learning curve is endless (no pun intended).

I feel like Atlas, can't keep this up forever..LOL! I am going to have to have the full Evo system for the 6R, it deserves nothing less. Friday is the big day for the 10, first of it's major mods. It will go into surgery at 8:00 in the morning for a full Akra exhaust transplant, pacemaker (Power Commander) and steroid therapy (TRE). I'm nervous, the 10 is such a sweet ride in stock form I hope this doesn't mess it up. I was riding last night and amazed at how quiet and smooth it is running down the freeway at 90 mph, just like a turbine engine. That's the reason this stuff has been gathering dust for almost four months, oh well, we shall see.

Kruz:

Have you done a track day yet? It might just be a life-changing experience for you. Was for me. Doing my second one tomorrow at Miller Motorsports Park.

Going to use my son's CBR600RR. The 14 is too big for this track. -bg

No BG, haven't done one yet, sounds like you had a blast though!! That's what I keep trying to tell these guys, the 14 is too much of everything unless you're going at high speed in a straight line or high speed sweeper. The old girl handles admirably for a big sled but I can still run all up under her with the 600 when the going gets tight.

BTW are you going with a Zx-6R or the GSXR 750? The only thing that turned me off on the Gixxer was it weighs as much as my literbikes. Same weight, less power, I didn't see much point.

Absolutely correct! I never got above 3rd gear on the Miller west track, and the tighter the corner, the more of these little guys went zipping around me. Did very well on the bigger turns, however.

Hope you get a chance to try a track day soon... -bg

Yep, on a 100 mph+ sweeper the 14 will hold it's own with just about anything, that's kind of it's sweet spot.

Guys, the smallest Speedcell battery barely cranks up my 750 and I'm not running any lights,
should be o'k for a 600 in street trim though.
They crank really slow (most sizes including the 1.6lbs. on my 14) in temps under 55-60F, so beware.

The biggest downside of the gsxr 750 is the fact that it's sticker price is equivalent to a 1000
(it's actually more expensive than a left-over zx10r or cbr1000).
However, it's a killer track weapon in race trim. Mine put 140 rwhp, 10 min after a zx10 (05 with a full Akra)
did 161 rwhp, although the mods weren't equivalent as mine had every bolt-on including Velocity stacks, Cometic thin gasket and raised compression, pair mod etc.

The downside of a 1K is the fact that they are sledgehammers on any slower/ more technical track and that they are overpowered (uber-fun I admit) to nth degree for street riding IMHO. They demand more effort in flicking from side to side and are very unforgiving with any abrupt throttle input.

Either way, when you go to the track there will be guys flying by you (effortlessly!) on much older, underpowered and trashed looking bikes, I promise you that- it happens to everybody who's not a licensed racer logging in hot laps and figuring out their set up for an upcoming race. There are always the local "fast" guys who are actually scary fast and create lots of drama in the advanced group.

Ride a liter on the track and you will find out just how difficult they can be and just how little margin you have for error. IMOP they are just too much of a good thing 75% of the time at a track day.

Yep, on a 100 mph+ sweeper the 14 will hold it's own with just about anything, that's kind of it's sweet spot.

you really should take your zx14 and zx6 to a track day I bet you would change your mind after turn one.
