Cam Swap ??
04/21/09 8:47 PM

Will a set of cams from an ZX12 fit in a ZRX1200R engine ? The 12 is an 03 & the ZRX is a 04 if that makes any difference . If they are compatable , should any other valve gear also be used when making the swap ? Thanks for any and all help .

I am going to say yes. Here is what I can do:

1. I can swap from 1964 till 1968, most any A-65 BSA part = Same thread pitch up to...
2. I can swap from 1969 to 1968, any Honda CB750 Honda SOHC (single overhead cam) to any of these same engine families as well as the cams of the BSA... Sans, piston to valve piston clearances.
3. I can sway any year ZX-14 and this too is the same engine family and now...
4. I can see if the 12 has the same engine family and that valve cover uses the same valve cover gasket; as if for the 3 same said bikes stated above; and to back up the base gasket on the two others being if the part numbers on the shims and valve train use the same part numbers as do the 3 bikes stated above is engine family = Engine Family is we all eat the same parts when we sit down and rip cable wit hour bare hands is a production run to make things affordable on both ends.

Now, to answer a 12 and how many years that bike's engine family had a run of parts that the cam is interchangeable is I would guess a, yes. But, that is a trivia question I am not familiar with and I do not have a definitive yes as I can say absolutely to, as I can with the 3 bikes above. I know a few things about what an engine family can do and not do between the years as being the same years of parts having the same part number of an updated number means the same part. But that was not the question.

Wait for an ex-12 owner(s)' response. Sorry, mine was not more precise as I could nail the other 3 for ya.

The zx12r cams will not fit your zrx12. Two totally different engines. You want the zzr12 cams as they will drop right in. Check out the zrxoa forums, I had the zrx11 and did a cam swap from the zx11. Others have done the zzr swap.
