PC III Map Uploads
04/21/09 3:33 PM

I think there's a way in this forum software to allow the upload of files that are attached to messages. I was wondering if there might be any interest in building a collection of PC III maps for various configurations. We should probably not include maps that are "proprietary" (like you need to by something from the creator of the map in order to get the map), but we could probably build a fairly good collection here if we get enough participation.

Yeah I would desperately love to peruse various maps. I will have to cobble something together to use until I can get my bike to the nearest tuner (which is a LONG ways away).

I don't really get the whole 'mystique' about these maps and people acting like they are magic and should be coveted so much. The tuners out there make their money off parts, and when people buy parts they get maps with them. Those maps have been tweaked to work perfectly with those exact parts - do you see where I am going with this? Maps should be freely exchanged in my opinion, anyone who CAN will very likely bring their bike with it's unique quirks and conditions to a tuner to get their own custom map regardless. And for people like me, living in the stix... Well, I don't have much of an option at all.

Many people dont like to give away what they paid good money for with their custom map. PC and vendors ussually do give a way the maps if you purchased it from them.

I can certainly understand that. If we don't have many folks contributing to this area, we'll just get rid of it. I thought it might be worth a try though... -bg

I think Brock or Muzzy would be really pissed if someone posted one of their maps here. Probably Ivan, too.

I think you're right. I've removed that section. It was a bad idea... -bg

Sure, you can pm someone and get them to email it to you as a file attachment. Nobody need know.

Considering how bad the economy is now, every time someone does that they are driving another nail in the coffin of some really great tuners, who just happen to have invested a whole lot of money developing said maps.

Its no different than pirating music, movies, or software. It sucks, and I wish all who did it would get busted.

And Hub, it doesn't matter if all maps share 99% of the same macrocode. You and I share 99% the same genetic code, but aren't anything like each other. Its an irrelevant point. Heh.

How do you reconcile the alternate opinion that a custom map is the result of a paid service?

For example, if I have paid for a custom map for my bike, then it's mine. the tuner doesn't have a copyright over it as I paid for the effort and I took the risk that it was going to improve the bike. There is no try before you buy. You hire the expertise and the equipment and pay by the hour on a best-effort basis, meaning I pay for his best efforts, but the result of those efforts is mine.

I think it is different from the music, movie situation. If you hire the studio, equipment, engineer and writer, then you paid for the inputs, the recording that results is yours to do with as you please. But we don't do that, it costs a lot of money, so we let the record company and performers hire the studio etc and they take that commercial risk and therefore retain teh copyright. They charge us a fraction of the cost in the price of the CD and we can try before we buy. (listen to it on the radio, video clips etc)

Now, my custom map might work fine for my bike, with my mods, in my environment. If I give my map to someone else with the very same setup, my map will still need altering for them due to differences within each machine and each environment (temp, humidity etc)

Your personal map is for your bike. You paid for a unique setup are the parts you laid on your bike. I could not use your map if I am running stock. So, technically your map is useless to others. If there is a worth to it as if I need to hear it before I ride it, I know right off; it is not my kind of music sheet.

It's not like you are holding on to a one hit wonder when the next day that map is now junk and I would not use it if in competition [even if both of use had the same setup]. If it rains and yesterday was a dry day in that dyno room and that sad ass dyno is sitting there with a dirty filter and did they dial in the dyno for that 1Atmo day?

Yeah, so much for a gold card to a map. No map is unique that you need to have to guard it. It either hits a specific sniff out the exhaust and you can match that sniff up or down the grid is a 25 or 50 rpm change is the same sniff out the pipe it is so close is the stoic.

Stoic says you run rich and you have that ladder of shut off. You have the PC that cuts trim and that is lean as if the bike will let it lean out is to shut down the spark/fuel pump/retard to safe mode or hidden backup in the generic like the ignition square wave.

That is why with all the mods, you do not see holed pistons [on gas/not shots of] in turbos or scored skirts with some sort of heat about to take over if the temp reads the wave is defaults to save itself.

Map my rich is you hold that trigger open with the pigs. Yes, I want to guard my over rich fuel set is give me a break!
