What happens w/ Speed Sensor Disconnected?
07/14/13 9:53 PM

My question is: Does the speed limiter get its input from the speedometer or the blue/yellow wire? I have a PC3 on the bike. I already cut my blue/Yellow speed sensor wire to the ECU and thought I would try disconnecting it, to see if it would still run right yet not have the speed limiter be able to engage. It made no notable difference when it was disconnected. Then, I tried disconnecting the whole speed sensor connector that is to the left of the engine. It, of course, gave an FI error code, but it ran fine. I am trying to make it to the Texas mile land speed event this October and want to see the top speed on it. I don't really want to replace my broke bonneville pro. I have other stuff I could use the $150 for. I would like to keep the speedo hooked up, but my thinking is that simply unplugging either the whole speed sensor, or (preferably) the blue/yellow wire will eliminate the speed limiter. Will it not perform properly at higher speeds (limp mode)? It seems to be fine through 2nd gear wound up. So, I cannot imagine that it will make a real difference. Any known facts on this will be helpful.

Try it. If it's just for some closed course, you'll already know your trap speed via the event you entered. Tape over your speedo and the flashing FI. You'll see your shift points and see if redline is getting close? But what do you care? Just be in 6th, keep focused ahead, super concentrate about nothing but what's ahead.

Say the scenario is 3 rounds:

1. A practice run = Blu/Y wire out/the rest plugged in.
2. A first run = Unplug it. You now know the difference.
3. The average run = Who caused what effect speeding you up, slowing you down? So there is your combo.

Make sense you just want to see how fast it goes?

Hey Hub, Thanks man. I was thinking the same way. I will do just that.

Yw, Dave. I can't tell which is more fun? Figuring out the wires, or getting acclimated to a 3 digit speed? Pull my helmet off and look all AstroNut in some wind tunnel.
