I agree, Dar. Rode the 14 to test a HD Livewire. Knew it was going to have a nice torque to it. Opened it up, sure it had that instant E-rush, but kind of signed off. Wasn't going to step down in power, that's for sure.
Speaking about restore... Sold a bike for cash and basket case '73. For some reason, I'm at a guys house to buy something from there. Maybe Z1 parts or a bike just for the parts that were missing or more worn out? Anyway, he says, 'my neighbor has a Z.' Walk over, we go in the backyard, Bone stock '74 Z1 sitting deep in weeds and mud, pipes rotted out. How much? '25 bucks.'
Shit, now I'm swapping out this worn out '73 with a low miler '74 crank, cylinder, and head. Used the '74 wire harness and a light didn't come on but everything else worked. Rode it for awhile, had a buyer buy it unseen. Friend who hooked up the sale, said the guy notice the head didn't match the black cases. It was going to be shipped back to Japan, so he was a flipper and would make out well either way.
At the time, those were hot so I had to adjust the price, but still made out well as you can see. Sold the now basket '74 for I don't remember the price, but who cares at the time. It was the fun chasing the shit for it. Not saying to go sink triple for parts and lose your shirt selling it all pristine.
