Rear Huggers?
06/15/15 3:10 PM

Good day Everyone -

Anyone considered installing a rear hugger?
I have searched everywhere and could only find satisfaction with this particular hugger:

https://www.pyramid-plastics.co.uk/accessory.html?h=10_100289&accessoryCode=672&d=ZZR1400+%2F+ZX14++Hugger%3A+Candy+Lime+Green&partNumber=073800F

Perhaps my 2015 ZX14R is too new for such a modification/accessory?

From the ad:

ZZR1400 / ZX14 Hugger: Candy Lime Green
Fits Years: ALL

I'm guessing they mean fits ALL years of ZX-14, Gen 1 and Gen 2, 2006-2015. If this one fits all years, the other brands must also. Perhaps the hugger industry just has not gotten around to making a distinction between the 14 and the 14R yet.

I wish someone would make a hugger without a chain guard. I'm going to make my own out of fiberglass one of these days.

The $140 Puig hugger I got on eBay is fantastic. Matte plastic so looks OEM.

Link to it

It does have a chain guard molded in, which I wanted.

The Gen1 and Gen2 huggers are very different. The Mfg. should know this.

I tried a Gen1 candy green hugger and it didn't fit my Gen2, plus the candy was different for some reason

In the end I went with the matte black Puig. Great fit and it looks OEM

RedDragon1949ZX14R,

I have the carbon fiber version of this hugger on my 2008 and it is a real nice piece. Best looking hugger IMO.

Contact this company:http://www.streetfightersbydesign.com/ This is the importer in the USA. David Cork, the owner, is very helpful, a great guy and very knowledgeable. He will tell you whether that hugger will fit your 2015 or not.

Ok Gents - so I did my independent research and followed everyone's comments making a call to David Cork at Street Fighter Design.
He can order exactly what I want see pic below and have it from the UK in 3 weeks or so -

Even suggested, at my request, a Ermax Fender eliminator -

Thanks guys!

I have a Lockhart-Phillips C-F hugger. think I got it for a buck and a quarter. Wouldn't have spent the money on the rear shock without it. Really keeps the crap and spray off the suspension.

I went with a powerbronze hugger. Excellent quality and mounting. Only problem is once in a while the clip holding the sensor wire sticking out from the inner fender comes in contact with the hugger when the suspension is fully compressed.

Do they make a 240 tire hugger?

Cjuni, I am running a 6.25" wheel with a 200 series and there is a little room to spare. It may just fit. Not sure how much wider the 240 set up is.

Heres a pic of the 200/50 series M5.

180, 190, 200, 240 ... indicates the overall width of the tire in millimeters.

240 - 200 = a 40 mm wider tire. 40 mm = 1.57 inches, or 0.79" per side ... or about 3/4" per side.

Now I believe sometimes a "240" tire is not precisely 240 mm wide, so you'd prob wanna look up the actual dimensions of the tire in question.

What hugger requires modification or removal of the brake line bracket?

Tried fitting a hugger the other day after wrestling with the brake line bracket I managed to only line up 3 out of the four holes. So I returned the hugger but the bracket is pretty much mangled and I had to zip tie it to the swing arm.

I have been eyeing off a carbon hugger from this mob. http://www.geelongcarboncraft.com.au Looks awesome and has a nice tappered end to it which should hold back a bit more of the crud and dirt. Thats the only reason I want a rear hugger. bit pricey but they look the biz

I remember the time when many bikes came with rear huggers and the mod was to remove them. ;)

I could probably go through thousands of posts but thought it'd be easier just to ask the question is the gen 1 rear wheel hugger different to the gen 2 as far as mounting goes? I have one here that came with the new fairing it mounts on the chain guard side perfect but on the brake side the holes don't line up please let me know thanks... Mine is gen 1
