Trip from IL to NC
10/15/10 3:13 PM

I returned my bike to stock and loaded it up with some soft bags and went for a tour of Indiana, Kentucky, West VA, NC to my new house in Raleigh NC and that’s where the bike has been for the last 3 weeks. I'll be living in IL until Feb 18 and then I'll be home for good in NC after 11 hell like years. I bought two new tires and replaced my brake pads before I left. I stayed overnight in Lexington KY and treated myself to the "gentlemen’s ballet" . I think I had too many drinks that night because I did not get back on the road until 11:am the next morning. I had to cover 540 miles to Raleigh NC before it got to late. I decided the only way to do that was one haul ass and two not stop for lunch. I filled my back pack up with waters and energy bars. I only stopped for gas and never got off the bike. I just pulled up to the pump and filled the tank drank some water and a bar and I was off again.(piss stops were on the side of the road) I got to my house in Raleigh NC at 7:40pm. I covered 1070 miles in two days and only managed to get one ticket on the first day less than an 1 hour into the trip in Indiana for 30mph over. 90% of the ride was all slab but I really enjoyed the trip it gave me lots of time to think about why the hell I would ride a liter bike this damn far. . Overall it was a really great trip I would do it again but I would not drink the night before the second half and I would get started at 7am versus 11am. The second day I was hanging my ass off the seat as if was getting setup for a corner for 20 miles at a time. I made it to my House In Raleigh at 7:30pm tierd buy not broken. I was in shape for the ride just two weeks before that I did a 902 mile two day ride with some buddies through IL,WI,Iowa and MN 80% were twisties and back roads. Four days after getting into Raleigh I said bye to my wife and two kids and flew back to IL. OBTW the roads just outside my new place are wonderful. These are the only crappy 3g iphone pics I have from the first day.

It was in a 55mph zone after the cop gave me the ticket I had the balls ask him for a brake he laughed really hard and said “man you were 30 over" I laughed and said "oh well I had to ask right oh well see you later" he replied “you probably will" I laughed again and got on my bike to continue my trip. I hold no ill will towards the guy he got me fair and square he was doing his job and was very professional. I was not prepared with my radar setup and I know better to speed on that section of highway. I took it easy until I got out of Indiana and then it was game on. I have been let out of tickets for everything from 10 to over to three times the posted limit to street racing over the years so it’s hard for me to complain. So all in all I'm not doing too badly the score is still 7-1 in my favor over the last two years When I get to NC I’ll finally be able to get a dedicated track bike so I’ll definitely get my radar setup back on the CBR

Blue it’s all in your head once you get moving on theses bikes the wind blast takes lots of weight off your wrist. The more you ride the bike the easier it gets the guys I ride all ride full on sportbikes and all the Saturday trips range from 300-500 miles in one day two weeks before I took off for North Carolina I did a 902 miles two day trip which covered just about over twisty from worth riding in IL,Iowa,WI and Minnesota 85 % of the ride was two lane back roads and very fast which made it more difficult than the ride to NC by far. This my buddies zx10 that thing is a torture rack the clip ons are really low and it has a lot more buzz in the bars and pegs than a CBR nice bike but no too street freindly.

Some of these guys racked up over a 1000 miles over the two day ride.

I got my ticket/fine notice in the mail last night it was only $124 bucks I really thought it would be at least $300 for going 85 in a 55. The upside is Indiana gave me the option to pay $124 and still get points on my record or pay $165 and not get any points as long as I don't get a ticket in Indiana for the next 6mo. In this case I'll be happy to allow them to use extortion to get more money out of me all I had to do was sign the forum and return it with a cashiers check.
