edgecrusher down
08/08/11 7:32 PM

Droppd it doing 55 entering a busy highway thus morning. pretty complete cosmeticdamage and oil leaking out right side. Typing stupid because evidently I broke my wrist.

Rear end stepped out on me accelerating on the circlular onramp. Head shook - I think this broke my wrist, thenbucked me off onto the concrete at 55 I slid with the bike for about 100 feet. Destroyed my helmet and jacket. All in all I came out good considering how much time I spent flipping down the highway.

just frustrating not being able to do shit and anticipating the innevitable screw job from the insurance and typing hurts

honestly I believe in this case a steering damper would have saved my wrist and bike!

No, not the edgeman?!! Bummer is right. Slow-mo it for us. The bike bit before the hit? You mean to say you felt something snap, then you flew off? Wow! That sounds nasty! Tell you a shorty; was on a strange race bike frame. High sided me and about pulled my leg out of the socket. Keep getting that ache to this day. So yeah, super violent stepping out that can snap/rip/tug/do some damage to the body as you sit there and let it all happen.

If it was on video, your accident probably looked a lot like happens to MotoGP and WSB racers when the rear lets go. They have high performance dampers on those bikes, as you know. Wrist injuries are not uncommon, a couple this season are out or just back in time for the season with that type of injury.

Sometimes, you are going off no matter what.

Get better, that is what is important!

Hey Boobs, Just so you have a little input; Had a bone in my wrist float. Took a high side on a race bike. My b-in-law was there at the time, said to load the bike before the shock set in. I worked and raced with a year's worth of pain. Took that long before it stopped annoying me. Saw the an x-ray years later. Sucker floated right back in place. Whole bunch of calcium around it I guess was surrounding that weld job back together. You can see the skin scar but the bone? Nada after all these years.

Hang in there. Let that puppy float along before someone takes a knife to it. Work it but don't strain it. Hey, it's just me but I wouldn't favor it and let it atrophy. You crash enough, your body tells you how far you can move things inside.

thanks for the sentiments everyone. I imagine it looked exactly like Privvy said about the motogp senario. Went to the bone specialist today andhe showed me the x-rays. two maybe three hairline fractures on the end of the radius bone under the thumb. Evidently, if i'm not carefull my thumb could pull thast right apart so i got a full arm cast to immobilize it today. they said something about tendon damage that can cause long term problems and arthritis but so far it looks ok. It's killing me being tied down. I just want to get back to work - my poor wife has to put up with me. As far as pics it's weird, the last thing I want to do is go out and look at the bike let alone take pics.
An 08 booked for 7600$$s so i don't know what the insurance will want to do with it. I'm all most hoping the bike gets totalled so I can just start over instead of dealing with a repair shop.

Damn Edge... Really sorry to hear the news... I think most of us feel your pain, to some degree. Hope you heal up soon... I'd tell you not to rush things, but if you're like me those words will go in one ear and out the other... So I'll just tell ya to listen to your body and hope you heal up quickly... Start with some 12oz curls.

It's all about [waiting out the] time now, Boobs. Tap your heels 3 times, say everything is going to be alright. Here we go again is the rider rotation sitting it out. Whathe fuck!!!!

Since you are off the bike with the thumb wrap-around, hope the bike is a total. Wait for April to come around for the newest model. Take that insurance money and save it for a fresh one. Yank the PC and wait for the 012 to come out. Buy that time, you'll be ready. Like all it takes is a drop like Kruz' bike; the front end is toast. That's enough to total it let alone the 2/3rds of the plastic is 4 grand at least... Just guessing.

Ya...55mph...slammed the cement...probably pretty darn messed up.You might do better getting a new bike.I'd say if the high side was on dirt,at low speed...you'd probably be able to sleep at night knowing your crunched baby was fixable.500 plus lbs at 55 on unforgiving cement...ummm...IDK.Maybe?

When I low-sided my ZX11, which the bike turned into its own high-side when it started tumbling end over end like cartwheels, a friend purchased it and rebuilt it. New frame, new rear sub-frame, new forks, wheels, shock. swingarm, etc.etc. When he was done, it ran good but leaked oil. He was unable to get the oil leak stopped.

Finally had to tear it apart and pull the engine, and have an engine shop punch out and replace the plugs in the bottom half. Then the leak went away.

He had put $4,300 into ressurecting it. I'm not sure I'd care to do all that work, or try to get the insurance company to pay for it.

He offered to sell it back to me, and I declined. Someone purchased it for $5,500 so he made out ok. It was worth a lot more, before the wreck. He replaced the bent Ohlins fork and shock with OEM units. And so forth. Put it back to stock.

I didn't want a stock bike.

i think the titanium reinforced areas on my jacket really helped abrasion wise when i was sliding. I think the thing that kept impact damage down was the fact the bike was already tipped over when it went down.

wish i had it on camera

Hey boobs, Get the wife over here. I'll wait.

Oh, hi Mrs. Boobs. Do you see that back tire? Daddy done dumped bulletpoof, Boom, she's down! That's what took out man boobs. I'd say that is some balled tire right there. Gotta have treads to wrinkle the stepping out. That is more a skate waiting to slip on the ice. That's what I'm guessing why boobs went down. Not your! The bike, eye meant the bike!
