cruising fuel mileage
03/17/15 6:42 PM

That power switch thing.....I'm still waiting for my bike but plan on breaking it in before my vacation this summer and then taking a long ride on it. I'm curious if I can get better fuel economy if at a steady rpm on the highway in top gear (after it's broken in) I use the reduced power option.

Or, is that power thing just a governor of sorts that stops the bike from making full power and in that case I'd expect to get LESS fuel economy at a steady state. Any thoughts?

Good question. I'd throttle against the vacuum gauge on the dash. Owner's manual page 36.

1. Stay within range of the gauge within a looped ride? Same miles returning to the gas pump?
2. That was in FULL mode with a full tank. Now switch to the next mode, monitor the economy gauge, same mph, same loop. Who drank more in the loop back to the station? Top the bottom ring off at the tank filler.

My guess, the power mode switches flies maps AND switches to a fuel map that matches. the flies open slower and fuel is matched to that rate. I doubt fuel economy will make much difference no matter what power mode you are as long as you maintain a seady speed and rpm. I would expect you might see a change in fuel use when riding around town. Accelerating is where the power mode matters. If you want to maintain a certain speed and rpm, the flies will have to be open enough and fuel sprayed enough to provide the proper amount of power to maintain that speed. Speed is not effected, acceleration is. That's my guess. I never use anything but A mode on the busa. When I have used B or C mode, I can't tell any change from A until I accelerate hard.

Apexlocator, I averaged around 38.5 early on during break-in. As I said in that other thread, I pretty much adhered to Kaw's break-in procedure. As I got more acclimated to riding again (it'd been 15 years), and more used the bike, I started to ride more aggressive and I'd say my mpg average around 35 now. But hey, the smile she tattoos on my face is worth a couple bucks in fuel.

As far as just cruising along, at 70-80 it'll show current mpg around 38-41. L or F don't seem to make much difference with fuel mileage.

I figured that.
