Changing from Full To Full Exhaust System Question
07/25/23 3:54 PM

I'm aware that going from stock/slipons to a full exhaust system that it's highly recommended to have a bike tuned to accommodate for the additional airflow being introduced. My question is if I already have a full exhaust system that's been dyno tuned and I change to another brand full exhaust system, is a new tune required/recommended?

I currently have a dual side full exhaust system on my ZX14R and want to switch over to a single side full exhaust system primarily for the sound characteristics and the weight savings. Bike runs great in its current form but I'll prefer not to plop down more $$$$ on another dyno tune if it's not necessary.

Thanks

Hey mate, I'm certain that if you fit the 4:1 exhaust it will still run fine, a dyno tune will likely get the last potential horses out but unless you feel it lean then it will be fine. The same as putting slip-ons on a stock bike, it may not "need" a tune but you will get more out of it with one.

Thanks Oz. I guess I'll see how it run after I install the new exhaust system and if I feel a reduction in performance or any flat spots, I'll get it retuned on the dyno.

Every place I have had mine dyno they would upgrade the map for free. Getting dyno only tweaks it to perfection. You should at least upgrade the map.like I said the folks I went to, just had me mail or drop off the ecu and bingo, upgrade and install.

That's the catch...I found out today that the shop charges $300 if you make changes to your bike and need it back on their dyno. It's my fault for not asking before I decided to use their shop, and a costly mistake I made. I was under the assumption that as long as I owned the bike and made changes to it, that they'll remap my tune for free. Now I'll have to pay $300 on top of what I paid a few weeks ago to have it dyno tuned. Bummer!

Ride it first mate, you may not need it.

Do you have a power commander? Or tuned it via ECU flash?

:)

The flash and tune was done when it was on the dyno. As you mentioned, I'll get a feel for it once I install the new system. I just threw thus question out since I couldn't find any info on this particular scenario. I could only find information on stock>>>Full or slip ons>>>Full.
