darryle, I switched this year to allstate from another company (not TD) and saved quite a bit. A few years ago I tried calling up TD and even Royal Bank and their rates were terrible, Royal was more than twice what any other company quoted.
In addition to the better rates at Allstate, the insurance benefits are really good and cover a lot more than my previous company. I switched only about a month ago and (knock on wood) I haven't had to put a claim through them, hopefully never will. :)
On that same note, the Allstate agent had some very surprising info, most insurance companies, even if all you're calling in about is to ask a question about your insurance (ie, am I covered for hail damage on my home?) will actually OPEN A CLAIM for the question. This counts as if you had an "at fault" claim and will affect your premiums (guess how I found out)! So, always call your agent for everything, accidents, questions, changes, etc.
In my case, Allstate was reasonable, saw that there was no payout for the "claim" and didn't count it towards my premiums. So I'm pretty happy with them so far.
