After 6 years, 25 days, my luck finally ran out.
09/04/12 3:25 PM

First of all I would like to say "Thank God for watching over me". Had my first real accident on a bike today. I decided to run to hardee's to get a quick bite to eat for lunch (hey, I had coupons). The place is only 4 miles away, but I put on long pants, coat, and the rest of my gear as always. On the way down, I see a pretty bad wreck and think to myself, I hope no one is hurt. On the way back, I pass the accident again as the ambulance is leaving in the opposite direction. Everything is good until I approach a side road and notice the car in front of me darts off the road. He is avoiding an accident that just happened in front of us where a car is waiting for another to turn. The second car hits the first in the rear really hard. The guy in front of me takes the ditch. I saw a pipe and decided to try to stop. As I lock the brakes, I realize I am not going to stop and I hit the back of the car and go over the bars and onto the trunck and back glass. I always wondered how people loose their shoes on a cycle accident. I still don't know, but I lost one of mine too. I get up and upright the bike. Damage to the car is minimal, but the front forks and plastics are toast (I was on the zzr) I have a few cuts on my left hand from the impact between the bars and the rear of the car. I am starting to feel a little pain in my right ankle, but I think it is just a bruise. The guy in the first car was fine. The girl in the second car seemed fine, but she was taken away in the ambulance anyway. The highway patrol came and took all the info. I didn't get a citation, but I will have to fix her car since I was involved in a seperate accident. Again, all is well, and God is still good.

This really has got me rethinking the full coverage insurance thing. I always pay for my toys cash, and only take out liability coverage. After this, I think I need to look in better coverage. Don't think I would use it on the zzr, but I would hate to be paying to fix the M109 out of my pocket. I have known about 5 people on the 109 forums that have totaled their bikes this season.

^^+1

God is my insurance-----I mean, I have basic coverage in case I get stopped by the cops but my feeling is if I get warning signs, I quit riding. I can't afford to get injured badly even if Insurance pays for my med bills. ..and you know what happens to insurance once you make a claim.

I finally got a chance to take the bike to my mechanic today. Unfortunately, I found out that the forks are not bent, but the frame is. I am really surprized since the bike doesn't look that bad. Guess I will try to recoupe some of my loss and sell it for parts.

Well, I sold the zzr1200 yesterday. Now I am on the lookout for another scoot. I kept the corbin bags, and corbin seat. Although I would like to get another zx14, this zzr1200 seems to really suit me a little better. I will have less money invested, and still have the luxury of having bags to carry things in. Since I was having a hard time deciding between the concours 14 and the zx14r, this seems to be the obvious choice. Maybe I will find a suitable replacement soon. Needless to say, I will have full coverage next time.

Well, I found my replacement bike! I picked up another zzr1200 with 23k miles and a few more extras. The guy polished the lips of the rims, and the grab handle. He also has a corbin seat, muzzy exaust, and a jet kit installed on the bike. Seems like the guy was very picky and took very good care of his vehicles. Best of all, the corbin bags, from the other bike, look right at home.
I did find out that the guy that bought my other bike, decided not to part out the bike. Instead, he straightend the frame between 2 trees (yea, very scientific), and is now riding. The bad thing, about 2 weeks after posting that the bike was back on the road, he posted it on craigslist for sale, or trade. He also states that it has a clear title. I had a friend call about the bike, and he said there were a few scratches on the side, from it falling over. This really pisses me off because someone could buy the bike, and never know that the frame was bent. Be careful out there when you purchase, and inspect very carefully.

That is one cool lookin zzr...makes me wish I still had my silver one...I didn't realize they could look so pimped out and bitchen.Way to go!How's she run with that Muzzy and all?Been a long time since I had mine....I really don't remember what she ran like...except hitting 150 once was quite the thrill....;)If I recall...I was thinkin.."she's not even breathing hard".....Had mine like yours...except stock everything...and no bags....liked the sport look.

Yours really is a good lookin bike....congrats!

Thanks for the compliments. The previous owner was about my size and made some nice additions that made it look better, and really made it comfortable. The other zzr was bone stock, and was plenty quick. This one is a lot faster with the addition of the exhaust and jet kit. I really cannot compare it to the zx14 that I had since I am not pushing either bike even near their potential. I do know that it is a world of difference between this and the zzr600 that I had. Some of the complaints that I have heard about the bike is that it looks like an "alien" from the front and the rear. Well now, with the muzzys, it sounds like an angry alien. The thing I like he most is the performance per dollar value, and the way it looks with the bags. I stopped by the grocery store this week and picked up 1 doz eggs, 1 loaf of bread, some grapes, 4 bannanas, 1- 12 pack of sunkist soda, and a bag of cheetos. All this fit, and nothing got mashed. You should have seen the looks that I got as I pushed the shopping cart out to the bike and proceeded to load it up. A little old lady just smilled. Another guy on a harley gave me a thumbs up.

I always liked that 'alien' frontend(and back)....I think the earlier 14's took a que from that bike's frontend.

The damage from the bike that I wrecked was along the side rails, about 8-10 inches before getting to the neck. To the untrained eye, you would never know(heck I couldn't tell until my mechanic had me feel along the bottom of the rail). Once the bike made impact with the car, the front tire went in. The weight of the bike kept it from flipping forward, instead, the wheel was pushed in. The forks didn't bend, and the neck did not break. The side rails bowed out slightly, and twisted in a upward position in the top.

And the dude you sold it to put it back on the road, and he sold it to someone who has no idea what happened.

That guy is a cocksucker.

Yea, this is the guy that really makes you afraid to purchase used. I don't know if he has sold it yet or not, but even trying to be deceptive about the bike really sucks.

Put a post on Craigslist that the bike was in an accident and had a bent frame. F-ck the guy over.

First, glad you're okay. You're life is most important. Second the guy who is selling the bike, as a tip over, "that's scarry!" Wouldn't the purchaser take the bike out for a few test runs and in a turn discover the bike toggles on the road? If the frame is bent, it rides off a bit no? Either way, that is just NOT, NOT, cool, if the new buyer is hurt or worse they have grounds to sue the seller. I would report this activity, you might be saving someone from injury, lets not even speak of $$! Imagine the costs associated with replacing the frame!
