How would you compare the idle through 4K rpm torque between the stock system and the Cannon? Much of a loss on the extreme low end?

For power below 4K rpm I think you guys should consider diesel engines...
you know- 80% of peak torque available b/n 2K and 3K rpm.

Rook, I exceed 4K rpm halfway out of my driveway.
You should let go and take the word of forum members that have actually
owned and modded numerous sports bikes and stop worrying about those
dyno charts that you're looking at and the "lost" bottom end.

^^Agreed, dyno charts don't tell the story of how the system will perform on the street, only experience does. Problem is we have conflicting opinions among those who have already switched over. Not a huge debate or anything but some seem to want to hang on to steetability and others see a little bottom end loss as minor.

I'd love to stomp on one of those stock zx14s with good bottom end with my bike!

The few zx14 owners around here though... well they like their chrome wheels and
spikes you know.

Rook, I'm with Mass on that one. I was waiting for this loss of bottom end that we read about, so I went with slip-ons. It did not take me long AFTER($$$$$$)to realize if there was a loss in bottom end with the full system I could not find it.

Thanks, fellas. I'm sure I'm sounding like a broken record on the bottom end question. The numerous claims that "I don't ever ride below 4K" was seeming like a way of denying a noticeable decrease in bottom end.

Don't worry, I WILL buy a 'zaust some day and then that will be the end of the questions. LOL

Tsukigi full system, pcIII w/custom map, pulled flies, 16t sprocket, wheelies easily (too easily) from 3k rpm exiting corners.
Lower gearing is cheap, easy route to low end.

06 14 Tuskigi stainless pcIII w/custom map.
Penske shock. GP North forks
Custom Leather seat
And too many other mods.
Track Bike morphing into a sporttourer
ZG touring screen, risers, Buell pegs, etc.

And a couple of other Kawi's

Gearing is next but i am not sure 16 tooth is the best way to go. Sounds like it is a little bit noisy and the same effect can be achieved by going with a a few more teeth on the back and leaving the front at 17 teeth. One of us will have to rejuvinate this topic in one of the gearing threads if it has not been already adressed.

^^Mass agrees with you. He says his 16 tooth whines enough he can hear it over his a-head. The chain has to make a sharper turn over a smaller sprocket and this is why it seems to maks some noise. Some say they do not notice any noise.

Jeff I think most of us here fit that description you just gave. The Question is how DEEP did the hook just set.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ will fill in the blanks. I too have a Christmas wish list. Now that you have started the Mods on your baby, only time and smiles can fill your needs from here on in. Cheers. If really want that list I'm sure you came 2 the right place.

You need a PC and order the Cannon from a dealer that can provide you with a map. HPC gave me good service and help with install questions. They also provided me with a map on CD. Do not just go with a generic Dyno Jet map.

Your header gaskets at the exhaust outlets are new but maybe you should change them to make sure you have a good seal. You can order from Schnitz for 16$ + 10$ shipping delivered in a day or two. About the same price at stealer + tax. Use some kind of high temp gasket sealer to stick between engine and gasket.

I had an easy time removing the stock header because I took off the radiator. You will need a pan to drain the cooling system into.

I think that's all you need aside from a few wrenches.

I'll show picks. Just had to order gaskets. There here now. Tomorrow I should be able to get it all hooked up.

Yes, the busa has one also. Not ceramic coated. Don't plan to put it on until winter.

OK, all bolted up. Just needs to have headers torqued.

This was not a real easy job. Those pipes are so freaking tight I had to assemble almost the whole system to get the pipes all the way pressed together. The middle headers dont seem to fit up flush to the motor as perfectly as the outer ones did. I was able to get the bolts on so I believe it will pull up tight once I torque it. Geeze, I hope so. I do not want to have to pull this thing all apart again after I have the radiator back on.

I have put a couple hundred miles on the new pipe and I am happy to report that the extreme bottom end power seems to have no loss from stock. The increase in power is noticeable almost the instant I take off. The first 1000 rpm feels about same as stock with the map I have and after that, hang on tight! There is no need to down shift any more than I ever did. In fact, the bike revs up a lot quicker so you might say there is a little less need to downshift.

G**DAMN this thing is loud!! I've been past a hundred MPH with it and the wind noise on my helmet isn't drowning out the sound. I would say earplugs are a must. Yeah, it is annoying running in traffic. The sound is very monotonous and very loud. I would equate it to opperating a chainsaw. Not a very flattering remark to make about such a beautiful sounding pipe, but in everyday traffic situations, it bugs me. Also, I can tell it bugs other motorists. I am not enjoying trying to ride at low rpm to cut the noise. I am more concerned about getting stopped by the cops now. The race sound is a lot more aggressive than the loud, flatulent Harley noise everyone is accustomed to by now. The rumble of small explosions on decel is awesome but it will make a loud pop pretty easy if I am not leaving the throttle open a crack. I might need to order the quiet baffle for everyday use. I feel a little embarrassed riding around on such a loud machine. I'm feeling like too much of a poser or something. I can't hear any other vehicle so I think i might be the loudest thing out there.

The midpipe sets really close to the lower fairing on the throttle side of the bike. No problems with heat damage even though it nearly touches. This pipe does not get nearly as hot as the stocker. Ground clearance is reduced a bit from stock, I think but that's the trade off for high flow pipes.

I had smoke coming off the head pipes for a few seconds on first start up. I guess it was just something cooking out of the ceramic coating. Have not seen or smelled it since.

Will take one of bike with fairings and pipe tomorrow.

Pipe looks good, your muffler hanger bolt looks too long, dont think it could rub on anything but on pics 5 and 7 it looks pretty close to your brake line
