White lightbolts??
01/27/10 1:23 PM

Heyaa,

Been wondering - Not sure if you call it the same in America. But let's give it a shot.

Over here we have Xenon Lights, its a kit you can put onto ur car/bike which provides more light in the dark, and has this nice White/blue color.

These Xenon lights are a bit too expensive for me right now, but i was wondering if there's lightbolts u can just put in, without having to put a kit in first.

If so, can someone tell me the specs of the lightbolt? Maybe measurements(Dunno?), Voltage, watts?

Thanks

mat just save your pennies and buy the hid kits they only run $65 each kit (kits contain 2 hid lights) so you dont have to get both at the same time get 1 now and do the highs later they range in color from yellowish to white ,light blue darker blue to violet. make sure you adjust your lights up 3 turns if its not been done yet theres a how to with pics in this forum somewhere that itself will brighten the road up for you with just the stock lights ill try to dig it up for ya

here it is

You can also get the new bright stock lamps without having to go through the whole ballast/not working/grounding deals. If you look up PIAA H9 or something close to that-it will probably take you to a website for these lamps. They are supposed to be "almost" as bright as HID's(xenon)-yet without altering any stock setup at all.(except headlamp adjustment). When my HID's finally fail,I'm gonna go that route. You want 5,000K or 6,000K-or in between that range for your "White" light.

Is it possible to change just the bulbs or do you need to replace the whole thing, reflector, lens and everything?

As far as installation goes it wouldn't matter because you would need to remove the nose and all the plastics to get the entire light out or just to get the bulb out.

just to install the hids you only need to remove the ram air covers and windscreen (if you put the ballasts behind the speedo) easy job

Matsuke some of them lightbolts are illegal down here and police will hit you with a ticket for anything that improves the performance of your lights, also white or blue is also a ticket must be yellow as per original. hate to see you get busted, may pay to check your local laws.

the 5k and 6k numbers are light frequency. in laymens terms, its simply color. the yellows and whites are going to improve usable visible light output. blue light looks cool, and while the lumen number gets larger, the blue light is "soaked up" by the darkness. so it isn't nearly as effective and needs to use more power to get the same usable light output as other colors. also, the blue light draws more attention then the other colors of light as MOST headlights, even stock hids, are white or yellow. this attention includes that of the authorities.

how many have actually done the HID conversion? i understand the newest hid's use much smaller ballasts. any pics of an install?

when in doubt, slow down. no one ever hit something by going too slow.

I can't see how HID'S are illegal......Don't you have auto's with standard equipment with HID's in them?
Most current cars ( the pricery ones) are offered with HID as OEM standard, and when installing a HID system in the bike, it would be the same as with cars with HID's.

If you want the whitest and strongest light output, stay at about 4500K light temps. No difference what temps bulbs are installed, the power draw will be the same. DDM tuning offers two ballast wattage outputs, 35W and 55W. The later will draw more out of your bikes system, and also produce more heat at the bulbs.
I've installed the DDM tuning system. Not a high quality system, but gets the job done with great results and @ 49.95 US dollars, can't complain. The ballast’s are slim enough to put one set of them under the windscreen, hidden well behind the blacken area.
