If your cam chain never made noise on start up... Do not cry you threw that on a brake roller. Green she freewheels. Red? When that button hits, the brake is applied to that roller going over 100mph plus. WOT do you expect from a delicate part that rolls off it's own internal compressions.

Slapping a roller on it... Still, I hear that rattle and she keeps running without ha hint of letting go, funny noises and all that. Relax. The bike will run smoother if all is said and done.

Ok, but consider the folks that originally made the SpeedoHealer had come out with a really trick unit that did what the TRE did without setting the gear indicator to 6 for the ZX10, and announced they would for the ZX14.

Then six months later, they admitted they couldn't get it to work without setting the indicator to 6. So there was little reason to bother making them, when a simple inexpensive TRE would do the same.

What you can do on a Hyabusa won't necessarily work on a Kawasaki. Heck what you can do on a ZX10 seldom works on a ZX14.

If he figures it out, he can make a lot of money. I'll glad buy one in that case.

I understand the Tre fools the bike into thinking it's in 6th gear and so the computer thinks likewise. The display always shows 6th. Prolly by shorting out a contact/wire made when 6th is selected. Which if you've ridden most bikes before LCD gauges came along you could remember a rider shouldn't need a display to know what gear he is in. But back to the point. What is the gear indicator mechanism on the 14 like? I'm too lazy ATM to click on my manual.
On my Suzy it didn't have a gear indicator but had a neutral indicator which was basically two circular disks, one of which rotated infront of the other until the metal contact aligning with neutral lined up with the contact on the other and on came the light. Is the gear indicator similar in function on the 14? Because I would think that someone with the immense brain power of Ivan himself would be able to finger that out a decade ago. Then again, if you had to, I imagine you could always rig up a stand alone indicator display and hack the original wiring for the TRE since it doesn't ever change and give the mechanism up to the new display's wiring. Then you'd have some new gizmo-horny-ness to add to your dash too!

I imagine it's because it's in the ECU's software and not some wiring that can be changed. One signal getting broken down for several logical commands some of which may be dependent on other signals. Or, for the money, it just makes more sense money wise to make some fools think about what gear they're in rather than soak money in R&D for one number on a display. But then again, I am the king of conjecture!!!
