Helps immensely Meb,
I would need help installing this system. The next big question is who? Would install this system...
Any links to view the package would be great.
1400 bones is like WHAT!!!!
But maybe it beats blasting away all the time.
Thank you so much for posting this Meb, a true education it is!

So, the folks who sell it to you can likely do the install.

I asked my local AV installer if they could do it (they were selling it), and they said "yes", and I had them take pictures of the 14R front, and asked them to describe to me, in detail, where they would mount the jammers (two of them).

But, I have my doubts. It *has* to be done right, and that means the laser detectors have to be perfectly level. When that requirement is imposed, and you look at the front-end, or rear (if you want full coverage), of the 14R, then the possibilities for a laser jammer install get dimmer. Not impossible, but it will require someone with skill and, well, imagination.

Anyway, they never told me where or how they would mount the jammers, what I heard from them was "yes, we can do that".

The radar detectors are no-brainer RF. Behind the windscreen is not ideal, but it will work. Placement is everything with these systems, to obtain exposure to the speed gun emitter, as soon as possible.

Laser is line of sight, unless you're lucky enough to get a reflection of the emitter from some other metal or plastic (painted, reflective) object.

Oh, umm, yeah, I are an eng-ineer. Oh well :)

This is going to be tough up here in the igloo nation, but you are right it needs skill for the install!

I got the adaptiv tpx waterproof on a ram mount through the stem nut like scott, i don't have the jammer. 2 months ago we were 10 deep on the way home a 75 mile ride and i was in front, my radar start flashing showing k band and the bars were growing as we were getting closer we were at 135-150mph and when i slowed down everyone behind me did, AND THERE HE WAS!!! at the end of the bridge. Today I was coming up to one who already had a cager pulled over and I didn't pick him up facing the back oh him, the tpx picks it up after i passed him, i thought they had radar guns through the rear window too?

Meb, my boy and I talked about your suggested products yesterday, and we decided that the 1400 investment when facing a 50 over situation (loss of license - 10000 ten thousand dollar fine, loss of bike) was worth the investment. Now I need to research where I can buy this product and research someone local that can install it correctly.

Zoom, thanks for the testimonial homie. Here they have a gun that can shoot in ever direction and a laser pointer mounted on the (front only) of their vehicle.

Oh forgot to mention, last night my Boy Beast and I burned through an empty parking lot at the theatre, while two cops where watching, they didn't light us up. I guess that's because there is no posted limit in a parking lot!

I read enough "radar only" testimonials that I'm beginning to change my mind about what I should do, too.

Radar / Laser detection only, no jamming, thats what I think I'm gonna do...

You guys have helped,

Thanks.

I have been using an 8500 x50 for many years on all my bikes and it has saved me from ridiculous amount of tickets. Around here most of the cops drive around with their radars on in their cars, all the time. If I'm in the middle of nowhere and get a hit, it is usually real. That's usually where I may allegedly be at extralegal speeds too.

Behind the windscreen is best for me, due to weather.

A H.A.R.D. device is a must have too: http://www.legalspeeding.com/HARD-System.htm

Something lower profile with a remote sensor head would be great. Clean a spot at the base of the windshield and mount it back there behind the gauges. Providing the plastic the windscreen is made of does not block reception.

Looked at this stuff some more this weekend.

I really want to pull the trigger on something, and I *almost* made it happen on the Escort Max.

...and then I stopped.

Two things stopped me: A proprietary mount interface, one that does not "fit" any other available mount hardware, and... a blinky light that you cant turn off.

The blinky light indicates the unit is "scanning" the frequencies, looking for emitters. But, they announce it with a bright red LED, and it can not be turned off (not easily anyway, I could take a soldering iron and put it's eye out :)

I had to read about that in the User's Q+A section, the entry is a week old. The unit is just shipping after months of back order, and this user was ready to send it back, it's so distracting.

So, the Max unit is Escort's latest market entry, and that's the one I want. But, not with those issues. Oh well...

The Adaptiv TPX is a couple years old now, and the 2.0 got poor performance reviews when compared to similar priced units. Same as I read, last time I read it...

So... I'm back on the fence for awhile. Mebbe Escort will make the LED a "programmable" feature via a firmware update. If they do, I'll play ball with them, but not until they do.
