Radar Detect? ers

Any good system out there that can help us detect those radar gun wielding peeons?

Any good products out there for motorcycles?

What are the risks?

I have a Valentine V1 with a remote audio adapter. I have mine hooked up through my autocom, but you can just use earbuds if you want. NOT waterproof, if I get caught in the rain i just stick it in my tank bag. I dont speed in the rain anyways. Its paid for itself many times over.

I bought mine right off there website. I think the V1 is around $400, audio adapter $50 +/-. Not cheap, but the V1 is top notch and it will pay for itself.

Hey scott what did you pay for that system. Boyz forgot to ask, what is the install like or is it an independent unit. Sorry for the newbie question!

wolf the install is easy enough if you just have the detector its just a simple hook up to a keyed power source, mine is paired up with the laser jammer but still an easy hook up the hardest thing is taking the plastic off then just a matter of running the wires. I mounted mine in the tool box. it is loud enough that you dont need anything in the helmet and they have really bright red flashing light that when mounted on top of the speedo under a smoked screen are still visible in direct sunlight

Scott,
Really appreciate all the trouble you went to, post picks and provide instructions. I need to invest in one of these babies, I have had too many close calls!

What you paid all it, is not bad considering I picked up a ticket for 340. beans a week ago.

Warm Regards,

Wolfman

ouch then you gotta figure in the insurance increase, that really adds up. this system has saved me several tickets on both radar and laser. now granted the radar isnt the great detector like the escort 9500ix in my truck but its $200 less and is picking up the radar just as good just not as far away it catches it 3-5 miles away where the escort gets it like 8 miles away lol and the adaptiv does not have all the bells and whistles but it does what its supposed to do and easy to switch modes even with bulky gloves on.

adaptiv

It's either Ritalin caplets for my throttle hand or the Adaptiv system. I think I am doing the system.

I don't know how Canadian dollars stack up to Canadian inflation but if you were doing a buck 20 in the fastest speed zones in the US, you'd be paying $700 or more. I payed over $500 for my 35+ over. 6 points.

I would say Scotties system is good insurance. I'm about to buy one myself if I ever get a few extra bucks. Just remember the popo can give you a ticket based on visual estimate. They will know you have a jammer if suddenly their gun jams on you and none else. I'm the only one who ever brings this up but it seems like a no brainer to me...still, people seem to be having success with these. If you are doing over 100, I just think most cops will consider that unusual enough to investigate even without lazar evidence...probable cause.

[quote]They will know you have a jammer if suddenly their gun jams on you and none else/quote]

during my research b4 buying the jammer i found out that police laser is very prone to error hits, meaning its not uncommon especially with motorcycles. That being said the adaptiv jammer gives you a choice of 3 settings:
1: it just keeps jamming the signal
2: it stops jamming after 7 seconds
3: it stops jamming after 10 seconds

option 2& 3 is designed to give you time to get slowed down before it lets the police get a lock on you, and to avoid suspicion if jammers are illegal in your state or country.

I would fight in court any cop who went in the courtroom and says " well judge i didnt get him on laser or radar but it looked like he was doing 90mph" i think my chances are good to get out of it.lol

[quote]Just remember the popo can give you a ticket based on visual estimate/quote]

rook I googled this and only came up with 1 states where the courts accept the visual speed ticket and thats Ohio. And only then if they've received very specific training to do so. Heres the article:
In Ohio, if a cop says it looked like you were speeding, he can write you a ticket - no proof needed. Makes things so much easier for law enforcement if they don't have to be bothered with the burden of proof. True story.

The state's supreme court ruled five-to-one that independent verification of a driver's speed isn't necessary... things like laser guns or radar or actually clocking how fast you're going. The court says an officer's visual estimate will work as long as the officer is trained, certified by a training academy and experienced in finding speeders.

Supporters say that officers undergo extensive training where they have to visually estimate the speed of vehicles within one or two miles per hour of the actual speed.

Nonetheless, law enforcement officials insist they won't be getting rid of their speed guns; and that it's rare for officers to give tickets based solely on their observations. But the state's highest court says if they want to, it's quite all right.

The case stemmed from the appeal of a traffic ticket issued near Akron, Ohio in 2008.

In that case, a police officer ticketed a driver because he said it looked like the driver was going too fast.

Without any technical assistance, the cop determined that the motorist was going 70 miles-per-hour when the speed limit was 60. The driver says the court's decision "stinks." The driver is right.

Rook and Scott
I got the 340 ticket for doing 47 over (according to the cop). I think he misread me, I was in a pack of speeders maybe cooking at 120. Anyway, to get back to you Rook, there is a huge injustice south of the border, the prices run triplicate to here. We even have a victims tax on speeding (which I agree with, proceeds go to supporting victims of DUI). Even if wrongly give the ticket, I'm glad 48 bucks went to them. Worthy worthy cause.

I have been known to cook at 185 km (abandoned highway as they are under construction and too far north for the authorities to care) when the roads are clear of traffic and early in the morn (5am on Sat or Sun), and I definitely do not want to pay the piper or lose my license. Regular commuting I hover at 100 - 120 on a posted 100km. There are some abandoned highways I hit in the morning and sweep it first, so that's been excellent...

Going forward, I would love to pick up a device that could warn me of impending popo!

Scott thanks for your follow to Rook! Rook I think I'm sold.

In the end though boys nothing is full proof.

Except maybe rockets that could launch me into the air and off the grid. Lets hope!

wolf yep nothing is full proof i try to keep someone in front of me when i can cuz they like to use their instant on radar and when they do that its lights out if your speeding lol but as long as you keep a vehicle in front of you your detector will pick it up when he shoots them

Scott,
My boy Beast is calling a gent who installs em, he said something about the whole system running about 5 beans...I am def interested. Scott thank for the Pic brother, I appreciate all the effort, you are a Bro! My only regret is you don't live closer so we could jam out on a ride together. But if you did live close, I would not need a detector. Right now, I will be looking out for all members of my riding group here in the 14 Nation.
The way I see it, it's not just my neck were saving, but Beast's and Dave 905 and AJS.

Mad love,
Wman

Wolfman; radar detectors are illegal in Ontario. $400 fine and confiscation from what I've read.

Bananas Alag8ter,
I'm not sure how or if this changes things? Alag8ter can the popo tell you are running a jammer and detector? I've been told the unit conceals nicely, but that said would suck to loose that equipment. I remeber reading something about it this (can you conceal it in a way that they don't find it)? I noticed Scott has his tucked under his windscreen and mine is tinted, so it would be hard to see.

Ontario is so rigid.

On an other note, I have so many illegal product mods on my bike if the popo knew what they were doing, I would be in big, big trouble...

Cheers Alag8ter and thanks for the heads up, good looking out bro!

Radar warning brake /lazer warning accelerate,on my 07 it was wired into my hazard switch so I could turn it off quickly to avoid radar detectors. If your all by yourself instant on radar= your busted, kept a passport 8500 under a map in my tank bag.Check HTA ,I believe a jammer is a criminal offence in ontario

Thanks Darryle a criminal offence, that is steep, too steep for me!

So what your saying, if you are riding with an activated radar detector, they can detect your detector and thus pull you over and confiscate the device and nail you with a hefty ticket or worse...

I am a bit confused, forgive my ignorance Daryyle, I am new to this game brotha!
