oil change
03/29/12 9:01 PM

Today...oil and filter...1314 miles.Went with Motul 10/40 3100 Dino oil.Gonna see how this oil works in there. This is the second change now.The 7100 looked very good...fairly new looking...as it should with so few miles on it(from 85 mi. to 1314).No stuff in the pan...chips,metal flakes...nothing.One gallon,1/4 qt....filled to the halfway in the sightglass on level ground after running and circulating.

That must be a typo. Do you mean to say you changed at 710 miles and now again at 1314??

Sounds like my busa. Oil color does not go to black and not much metal flake at oil change. Now after 3K miles, IDK if there is any sparkle. Can't remember but I know it was a lot less than my 14.

Ok... dont yell at me. But im really surprised you arent using the 0W/40 oil.
Im using it because it reaches operating viscosity the quickest.
Did you guys read the article on oil in ferarri-chat.com?

They are using what KHI says to use, no ?

The ZX14 (any) engine gets hot fast. O weight oil will cook off and lose all its viscosity way to fast.

Counter-point: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/faq.php?faq=haas_articles

Sorry for not pasting as a hyper link. The info this guy gathered dispelled a lot of
misconceptions i had.

Im all for following the OEM service reccomendations, for instance: before i began my
break-in i was directed to a site called "moto-man".
His experience with engines led him to adopt a break-in method which is diametrically opposed
to that of the manufacturer. I chose to use KHI protocol.

The oil im using is still a forty grade oil at operating temp. It has the advantage of reaching operating viscosity
from cold start sooner than 10W/40. But when at 212F both oils are at 14 centiStokes viscosity.

Engine manufacturing and lubricant developement have reached such high standards that there would be
little street difference between the choice of zero or ten W. But i like to give myself every advantage.

The link above is a lot of info to assimilate... but worth it i think.

Ethin14: you have my thanx for the assist. Im still trying to cypher how to post pics, etc with my phone.

As it turns out... there is a sticky here that goes to the same place. Duh!

I certainly dont want ANYONE to get the idea that im saying their choice of lube is wrong. I dont have ALL the facts when it comes
to oil performance. But if i find a resource(s) i certainly hope you guys would welcome me to share.
