I was taking a mello ride last night which is mostly what I do on the street these days. I was on the expressway. I think there were ~ 3 lanes. Will admit, it was awful hot and I chose to go w/o helmet or any riding gear. I was squidding it up big time but just perking along. Some dude sails by me about 70 mph and accellerating---IN MY LANE!! Then I see him just sail right past the cage ahead of me in the same fashion. I just shook my head. No harm. I suppose the kid knew what he was doing well enough. Guys passed a lot closer at the track. Then a second kid comes by doing the same thing, not quite as confident as the first but just as fast. I shook my head again and thought about what all the cagers around must be thinking about this. After #3 came by just like the last two, all them riding right between cars I swung my head around to peak, nailed a donshift and I pulled over a lane to get out of the way.
Have to admit, the thought of chasing them was going through my head. I was a little offended by the intrusion on my personal space but much more I was just plain jealous. Jealous of being that young and having balls the size of grapefruit and having nothing in life to lose. No fear of ramification or repercuscions. Sh!t, if they ride like that, there is no way a cop would dare chase them. They would get away from any cop in that traffic with all of those exits as long as their nerve held up. Only thing that would keep on them would be a helicopter.
.....so, I am a little jealous I can't do what they do. All those kids with their ultra quiet exhausts (never herd a thing until they were next to me) and balls of steel. They must have been real pros. Bet they do it all the time and never get caught. I haven't the stomach for that kind of danger. I guess that is what happens when you find out you are not invincible ALL of the time. Comes with age.
