About to purchase.. a couple questions
02/04/12 6:51 AM

Hi all.. I'm about theeeessse close to pulling the trigger on a '12 ZX-14R.
I currently have a nicely modified 97 CBR1100XX and a somewhat modified 03 CBR1100XX. My plan is to trade the 03 in and later this spring sell the 97 outright. I've been given a trade offer of 10K plus my 03 for a '12 model which is pretty fair I think.

I did however find a carryover '10 SE (titanium/black) and they'd go 7800 plus my 03. That seems like a nice deal, but I think if I'm going to do it, I need to get the '12. The '10 would be great, but from what I've read the '12 is in a class of its own.

I was a bit disappointed when I got an insurance quote. I am insuring both my XX's, full coverage, 1K deductible, for around 360/yr. Nearly 540 for the '12 ZX.. wow. Anyone know how insuring a '10 would be compared to a '12?
I'm 42 yr old with a clean record, in South Dakota (cheap insurance).

Thoughts / comments appreciated..

Hank

If you want the baddest one out get the 12, 06-11 will still be more bike than most of us will ever need. Me personally I never get anything the first year seems they fix the problem that crop up in the first year. That's why I got the 08 secondary butterflies open earlier no frame recalls. I bought it used 1700 mi 8k on it now and have not had a single problem out of it. Plus 08-11 new/gently used will be substantially less than a 12. I'm 41 with a clean record, my 09 R6 and 08 14 full coverage $500 deductible is about $800/yr 12mo riding season in VA.

Try state farm? Ours is 479.88 a year for our 2007, clean record and 41 years old. I know some insurers in NC give a 20% discount for having had the riders safety course - might be another option to drop the rate a bit.

I checked the rate with my current insurer on the '10 and it was under $340, which is very reasonable. Sounds like the rate will drop a bit over the first few years. I guess I can live with a few hundred extra in insurance for a few years.

Better have it insured then. It's like a savings bank anyway

Hello HankSD and welcome to this amazing forum. I too am new here. I just purchased the '10 SE (titanium/black). I have been riding a 1995 ZX1109 totally refurbished from the ground up for the past 6yrs and it has been nothing short of awesome. In saying that this new bike I have is going to be more motorcycle then I can even imagine right now. Unless you need to have the absolute kingpin bike, go for the '10 SE (titanium/black). The price difference alone is enough but in my humble opinion I think the '10 SE (titanium/black) has the better look. Here's what is looks like with Akrapovic exhaust. Good luck with your purchase decision.

I love that color Blake! I would've chosen that for sure if they had offered it on my '11. My local dealer only had 1 black n green, which
I like, but not as much as that titanium...beautiful!!

Thanks mad5674, I'm pretty excited about it. The thing I like about the looks of the ZX14 is they all look amazing in any colour scheme. I find each has it's own character presentation. I think the new 2012 in the Golden Blazed Green just screams MEAN MO FO. The 10 S.E. looks like it's wearing an executive's suit. I like your's because it has a bit of both looks. There all amazing. I've never been part of such an elite group of motorcycle owner's. ZX14 ROCKS in any colour.

I've just about convinced myself I'm getting a black '12.
Working on getting at least 1 of my XX's sold before I pull the trigger. Hoping to have one in the shed by the end of March.

Sharp scoot Blake!

Congrats. The reviews on the bike are great! I haven't heard about any real issue so far. Good luck on that sale and welcome!

Yup...titanium/black...VERY NICE combo!

IDK about anyone else here...but when I see almost any zx14....taken care of...clean...polished...it just shouts "let's ride!"....I don't get that same impression from the Suzuki.Even though I first wanted to get the Hayabusa back in 2002.Don't know exactly why I didn't,but the zzr1200 was there..in Atomic silver...and I went with that.Just something about the bodywork....Glad I did really...only Kawasaki's here for me...and every one of em have been excellent to deal with and enjoy.

Big Will,

Where did you get those wheels? I just bought the black 14R and they would look tight as hell on it. And how loud are your Brocks pipes? I don't want to blow a hole in my head but I'm hearing good things about them. Do they come with a silencer?

All are excellent bikes but the 14R is a massive upgrade.

Curvekilla - sorry for the delay in answering ya - but haven't been getting on here much in the past month or so. I'm in the A'stan and there's a lot going on here and has been for a few months. But anyway - the wheels are Performance Machine, Heathen, contrast cut. You can find them on Performance Machine's website, for details, but I made the purchase from SportChrome (www.sportchrome.com) - they gave me a pretty decent discount, but they were still pricey! I love em though and they make the bike stand out well.... It did take them a while to ship because they had to be cut by Performance machine, then shipped to Sportchrome, then to me... The Brocks CT duals aren't too loud, in my opinion... They have a really deep throaty sound at idle and scream while at speed! But the main plus is that they are light as hell!!!!
