Does anybody know if Sport Rider magazine ever revisited the Quest to break into the 8s on a stock wheelbase budget build bit? Does anyone know if they are hiring?

I subscribe and i have not seen it printed if they did. I would be interested in your write up of what it takes to get close or have you made it into the 8's? What mod's affected your time the most etc, etc.

Pretty much the exact same mods that Kent and the gang was using. Pump gas, stock wheels, bearings, and all. I did install an air shifter, but I didn't pick up any ET with it. It has added another layer of consistency though which has been nice. I think some of the problem was trying to use the KTRC. It absolutely murders your ET on the track and should only be used by the greenest of horns. If you go back and watch the video the bike was making plenty of MPH to achieve an 8, but his 60's and front half were terrible. I think he blamed it on spinning because "the bike was too powerful" or something along those lines. His eighth mile times weren't even in the 5s so he really never had a chance. Some of it is setup, but TONS of it is rider.

I would imagine its farly hard to jump on an umfamilar bike and run good numbers. Those guys dont ever get to ride the same bike for very long. I know when I switched from the ninja 650 to the daytona 675, I felt like I had never ridden a bike in my life for the first 100 miles. Then I settled in and I am more comfortable than ever.

If your referring to the street legal daily ride and also a track zx14r bike to hit the 8s then Yes their best run was 8.56 sec run. From what i remember they used race gas stretch 6in pcv carbon fiber wheels lowering links air shifter and some other stuff. I have that issue. I will post all the mods when i get a chance.

It has taken me 5 yrs to get to 9.25 SWB , lowered, tuned, and shifter, pump gas Brocks Alien SS
.. I was at 9.30 , got antsy and put a 6 inch Evil arm on. immediately ran 9.017 with no other changes.. Decided I was cheating myself and took the arm off cause the target is an 8 ticket SWB. Maybe this year , if the rain ever stops :( , I am at 9,25 right now.
