No, I'm right there with ya Bean Mate but I have seen a couple of 14s still running good with close to 100,000 kilometers or 60,000 miles. I figure the old girl will let me know when she's tired and ready to trade off.

Mine's got 31850 or so miles on it just changed the oil man sounds like a new bike.

Hey Kawnow your Dead right same as Blue07 & Kruz just stated they will go way longer passed "My useby Date" @ 30,0000 miles ! I've set that mileage to get the most out of my ZX14 then offload it as a low mile bike for minimum change over,if I can't change her at 30,000 miles or less due to $$$$$$$ constrates well then she'll do me for years longer no sweat.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised these bikes will go way over 100,000 miles easy.Regular(street legal) riding and good upkeep should have no bad effect on these.Heck....4,5,000 rpms is NOTHIN for this big engine.Barely breathin!

Yep, I gottcha Bean mate, 30,000 is prolly considered low mileage on one of these. I'd say high mileage begins around 60,000 miles. Seen two trade ins with 60K on the dealer lot, still looked good. They wholesale out the junk trade ins, you never see them.

I'm a long, long way away from even 30,000 miles, maybe five to six years. By then,I might be thinking trade in time on a new 14. I wonder what a 2016 is going to look like......and cost!

Lookey ear, I'll grab yours like come over here tommy edison and sit on this here rr. This is a rotator bike. Yes, I asked before I threw a leg over and I wish I hadn't. You know those semi trucks that come out to the track, ride our bike for 2 days worth of seminar?

I never felt so, 'who the fuck would ride this' with close to 30k on it? Yeah, how many miles, times how many tire rotations, times, you won't throw it away, so how beat up can it be? I may have sat on the shop beater (someone threw away), but it was being ridden by someone that just got off it; warm engine and all.

So, if Keith Code rotates the fleet once they reach about 30K, it's time. Mine does not fell like an rr with less than 30k, nor can you match the cylinder wall strength... I would not take that bet [book] service limit vs. service limit. Pick a part.

No matter how well that rr looks, I don't know? Part for part, that rr part may look good. But in service? Piece of over priced pro fo laugh stick is what you're buying. Had two. I'd put Yamaha engineering executions against the rr. Don't bring up that kawikrap we discuss exquisite expressions of ergo fit and feel.

What's an RR?(oh,okay...you mean the Beemer).

"So, if Keith Code rotates the fleet once they reach about 30K, it's time"...considering the BMW...ya...I can see it being thrashed at 30k.But according to BMW policy...not his.

"Mine does not fell like an rr with less than 30k, nor can you match the cylinder wall strength... I would not take that bet [book] service limit vs. service limit. Pick a part".

Keith Code doesn't replace them because they're tired. He replaces them because he's got a contract with said bike maker.THEY call the shots...not him.If he wants "new" bikes whenever...then he complies. If he wants to lose the contract...he disobeys. It's not HIS opinion that the bikes are 'shot out'(although in THIS case...they may well be ready to blow .

I seriously doubt any bike out there in the 14 class can match the quality of the 14.They just keep on going and going and going.....Mine had 51k on it...you really would not even have a CLUE it was halfway to a 100K.No way.It ran excellently, everytime.

Where are you coming up with this stuff? I think the man has been rotation bikes for a few years now. I think they ask him when the bikes are played out. And when I was watching him groom two up and comers, I saw not a peep of oil out of the bikes, nor could smell one about needing an overhaul.

"Where are you coming up with this stuff?"....same place YOU are....in my imagination

You were there?Yes?You work for Keith, yes? You know all about the personal business between BMW and Mr. Code, right?

"I saw not a peep of oil out of the bikes"....I don't think Dogo saw any 'peep' of oil out of his 14 just before she blew either....

You think BMW doesn't KNOW how long their bikes will last for a particular application.Bunch of friggin dummies, right?

Now just HOW would that look to the buying public. They go to Keith's school there...he's got several Beemers 1000RR's for his students(who are most likely gonna be purchasers after the class...BMW's counting on that)and whatta they see...bikes in the track shop there...down...unrideable at 30,000 or so miles. In need of a full rebuild.Any chance THIS scenario might be in play?Would YOU buy a brand new EXPENSIVE bike after seeing that? You might...but probably NOT a BMW

Now Hub...is that so far fetched...or am I WAY out there again?

Yeppers...I could see it now.I want to better my riding skills...ya.I gets my azz to the master.Cool.First day there, during lunch,I'm checkin out the shop there.Yep...nice...there's what 7,8 bikes sittin in there,in various stages of disassembly.Hmmmm..interesting.

"hey Mr Code...what's THAT one in here for?"

"Aw...that one there? It needs a new top end"

"oh...well,how about THAT one?"

"well THAT one needs a new Trans"

"oh,okay.And THAT one there?"

"That one ...ya...bearings are makin noise"

"and THAT one?"

"rings...she's smokin just a bit"

"Hmmm...okay...where can I get my new Beemer 1000rr when I finish yer school here...really lookin forward to spendin many many worry free miles on her...plan on keepin her for a LONG time".She DOES haul azz...that's for sure"

I'm sure BMW would LOVE to see this situation happening.

This scenario not possible,right Hubster?

I might add....have you or any other person ON EARTH seen a 1000RR with 30,000 miles on it?That tells ya somethin right there..besides that they've "only been out for"however long"....

It might be quite interesting to check that 1000RR service manual and actually SEE which parts are designated "R"(for replace)at 30,000 miles...if it even SHOWS 30,000 miles in there And I wonder just how many and what kind of parts it says to "R" as she's gettin up there in mileage.Maybe their RR designation is VERY accurate. No one can come back and say..."you never told me about this deal here"

"YOu said you were way outhere".no Hub...I didn't.Quote me where I said I WAS 'way out there'.That statement was made in regards to your responses about how I need to see things 'your way'("look at it like this Blue")....It was not intended to describe how I see myself. You know...kinda like that 'abstract' thing you got goin on

He aint sayin NOTHIN.No answers....nada.Generalized statements. You listen to it.That guy askin the questions...he's tryin to be nice about what he's askin...but Keith aint givin up any info about longevity or maintenance. It IS a track bike...it aint made to last hundreds of thousands of miles. He knows that.BMW knows that.Nice bike no doubt...but not if ya intend to drive it like a 14,or for near as long with as little replacement of parts as the 14 needs.

"Marketing

In March 2010, BMW released a video on YouTube titled "The oldest trick in the world", which highlighted the S1000RR's acceleration by pulling a tablecloth off a long 20-seat dining table without disturbing the place settings and table decorations. Its popularity turned the ad viral, with 1.4 million views in the first ten days,[9] and more than 3.7 million views as of October 2010.[10] The October 27, 2010 MythBusters episode "Tablecloth Chaos" tested whether the trick could be reproduced. The stunt was replicated in detail, with the exception that a different motorcycle was used—an Erik Buell Racing 1125R, owned and ridden by the shows co-presenter Jamie Hyneman. The conclusion was that the video was fake as the only way it could be reproduced was by placing a plastic sheet on top of the tablecloth—thus eliminating any contact between the tablecloth and the table settings.[11]"...quoted from Wikipedia.

I can see why Kieth appeared(to me)to be a shade more than lackluster while answering his guest's questions.Course, his demeanor may have been a result of trying to convince himself and others that that 1000rr is THE crem de la crem of the WSB world.Very nice bike....but highly limited to one niche...which is fine..

"The conclusion was that the video was fake"....."that's entertainment!!" as the saying goes!

I'm going to ask, yes or no, Grn. Have you owned a few bmw's like I've owned? Yes, I sold one with 36,000k and the gearbox did not like my plushoesettting, even the clutch lever was setup like a hair trigger from top to bottom. I don't know how many times I've high rpm missed 4th or 3rd on the 14 so far. This bike is no wear near the clapissedoubt... don't doubt me I sat on that bmw pile-0-ready for a chopper.

Well this part is bad, Grn. Go condo on it.
No, I can still use it.
Blue, your face looks Grn.
No, I can really, really use dis. It really, really loves me.
Here, eat some pizza before it gets cold...

I think I ear'd, 300,000 miles, count 30 bikes, 28k was also a number thrown out. That is 30 bikes with close to 30k miles on them, add a zero to 30 bikes... Make sense in the abstract math? I heard enough. Conspiracy theorist are we? You making up whack?

"I don't know how many times I've high rpm missed 4th or 3rd on the 14 so far".....maybe you should practice yer shifting then .Ever try clutchless? That may help some since you can't seem to get your timing down using that pesky lever Think of your shift as if it were a quickshifter. You don't use the clutch...you cut the power. That's the ticket.Problem solved! Now, just HOW you cut the power will determine HOW she'll click right in.Finesse my man...finesse .

Well,IDK...I installed my shiftstar around 2000 miles in.There was an 'improvement' in shift ability(it did click in nicely)That could have been my imagination however. But not running with the stock star long enough...I really couldn't compare. To get an accurate comparo...I would have needed to remove it again.Honestly...I can't say if it did or didn't improve anything.I was chasing the grail of the Busa shift quality.THAT didn't happen.
