Think mine has just died.
Ride home from Oxford run really well.
Waiting for gate to be unlocked the bike stopped. Then the fan came on.pressed starter and all it did was make some nice crunching noises.
82228 miles.
I'll investigate tomorrow but doesn't look promising might be time for another one.

Welcome,
Not sure what crunching noise you heard. It is typical for the fan to turn on after shutting off the engine. As to why the engine stopped if you didn't turn it off unknown. If it was overheating I would expect the fan already running when it stopped. What is your battery voltage? Is it possible the charging system failed and battery voltage dropped to low to sustain ignition? Crunching noise battery can't crank starter? Starter trying to turn a seized motor that chose the moment of low oil pressure idle to die?
Good luck and let us know what you find.

I agree with the failure of electrical/battery.
The crunching noise probably the sprag clutch. Starter/battery doesn't have enough
power to spin it fast enough to engage.
Could be as simple as a dead battery.

I'd say 80k miles (miles not KM) would be a decent lifespan. I can imagine one running much longer, 100k+ miles.
But I'd say if you got 80k miles on it, "you got your money's worth", while of course, most of us would love to have it run like knew for a million miles (you know what I mean).
Someone who constantly rides aggressively, I'd think 20-40k miles may be about what the get out of it, same for poor maintenance.

looking back through this thread, interesting to see some of the posts.
1st page someone had a rod bearing fail at near 10k miles. Going on to read the thread... "had flakes in the oil it's whole life... it was doomed", then finally for me...the answer..."motoman break in". I wonder how many motoman break in bikes are hitting 80k-100k+ miles?
Thankfully I don't see much about that motoman BS any more.

I've been thru 4 of the 14's engine families, 2 were moto broken in, 2 by the book. Moto always was contaminated with brass and aluminum filings. The book bike I have now is debris free. So much for moto-joke.

Hub, my 14 was broke in by the book but I did have to ride it home from Dallas on the highway back in 2006, 287 miles in one stretch back to San Antonio. Probably not ideal for breakin.
Mine has consistently used oil since day one, about a quart per 2000 mile oil change on average.
I got into a dice on it with a 2019 Ducati V4S tuned to 236 HP weekend last(found this out later). He came from behind, caught me napping coming out of a corner and passed me on the straight and I ran his butt down in the twisties, repassed and left him. We met up later and he told me he could smell oil burning when I went by him, no smoke though. The old girl still runs strong but does use a little oil.
There she is parked on the front row with her stable mates.

LOL Hagrid, actually there are 9 including my VTX1300C hiding in the corner and yes the contractor never finished painting my garage when I had my home built and I never got around to buying the $36 worth of paint to finish it off. Go figure! Shame on me, shows where my distorted priorities lie.
I spent the money on the new Puig dark smoke windscreen for the 959 last week but will by popular demand, make painting my garage a high priority, what color do you suggest?

look for signs of oil leaking along the front edge of the valve cover. open heat blanket and check LH side. if you have a leak, change valve cover gasket.

Flat black it is then with ultraviolet lights to liven things up a bit and make it look like an opium den...
