MPG AND AVG MPG DISPLAY
09/03/11 11:11 AM

On my display everything works but these 2 things. Is there a way to reset the display? The mpg stays at 40.5 mpg and the avg display shows --------.
Thanks

The AVG mpg resets by holding the lower button two seconds.(mode=top/reset=bottom)You have to be in the CORRECT mode however to reset THAT value.I.E......."avg mpg"...then push reset...hold for two seconds...it will display'------'.

Then it will begin to display as you ride.It should not be staying at ----.Possible the button could be 'stuck'?

I've never set the "INST" mileage.IDK if you actually can.Probably.

40.5 is pretty good. Are you sure you're not actually getting 40.5?It is doable.

LOL, blue, I think you can't clear that. I think it is vacuum triggered if not TPS triggered on the backup. It will average that mileage as your CAN line takes all that tranny move/crank move/tps move = Calc the gas mileage IDK... If you can clear that number I de-clear me wrong clear me average gas mileage from the CAN central.

Well...the book says push the reset for two seconds...it will clear any previous values....BUT,they also say...don't do it while riding(I'm guessing for safety's sake.Takin yer eyes off the road and all).Gotta say...I do while riding .It lines out, then goes on to the 'most recent' values that are coming in.It updates every something like 300 or so feet. What it will do,after I've been in cruise mode for a while, maybe like gettin 37+ mpg,it'll shoot up to like 41 something right after it's been cleared.Stay there for a wee bit, then begin to adjust, usually downward. But sometimes,it will climb if I've been riding a certian way.42.0 is the best so far....it stayed there for around 5 minutes or so,cause I changed my throttle opening for whatever reason. When it started coming down a bit,it stopped at like 40+...stayed there for a while, then slowly began dropping...only cause I was changing throttle and speed.Right now she's at 38.But I can easily get er to climb to 39+ if I manipulate the power and all just right. You can get very high numbers I noticed IF you reset, then let er adjust out by cruising at a given speed and rpm, then, opening for a faster run, then going back to your previous speed and all.It will stay right up there as long as you don't like OPEN ER UP for several long runs.Once she starts getting the negative values(Throttle opening) in the CAN or whatever,it seems like she continues to add up the negatives against the positives(closing throttle),and the mileage begins to fall.IDK...it seems like that anyway.I'm probably wrong.I really don't know.I do know that resetting while city riding, stopping and starting(at signals and such) will definitely cause the mileage to drop significantly on the display.

From what you said Blue the bike has to be moving? I tried resetting with just ign, on and it stayed the same.I'll try with the bike moving when the weather clears up.Do you think if I disconnect and reconnect the battery it might reset?

perrier,

40.5 avg says; this is you and your throttle vs. the gas tank range.
38.8 avg says; I was a good boy riding with less throttle is my number.
We can only change from usgal to euro liters.

---- says; I'm not running unless you keep that mode there, start bike and start sucking out gas, watch your numbers swing.
---- says; That is all she wrote are your buttons and displays.

I'm not positive about the ---- displaying while resetting on a stopped bike,if it will stay that way until you start riding.I don't think so....It needs to get an input from the moving bike(Or the engine running). But once it begins to get a read,it will show THAT value whenever stopped or restarted.

The mileage information is calculated with the motorcycle moving. You can reset anytime you want(no,don't disconnect the batt). If you're maintaining a steady driving pace,it won't change much,if at all for a while. The main deal I tried to point out when someone asks about low mileage...is....a reset while moving(riding)in cruise mode will get you a more accurate read on your actual mpg for that period of time.IF you put your mode to 'INST"...you're going to see some really high numbers at certain throttle applications. And,some really LOW ones.If your highs are greater than your lows, your 'avg' mileage is going to increase. The more 'high' mileage values you have, the greater your 'avg' mpg will be.If you can pay attention during the "inst' value reads with what you're doing with the throttle,it is possible to apply that to your cruising riding. You will see an increase in avg mileage.Maintaining a steady pace on the road, then shifting down one or up will show a mileage change. So you can find the sweet spot for whatever gear you're in and match your speed/rpms for that.Kinda cool actually, seeing how different rpms and speed and gear combos get you the best or worst mileage. This bike will pull down some pretty good mileage numbers if you drive er right.Tire size will affect mileage as well.A 55 will give a slightly better mileage than the stock 50.Gearing changes are definitely gonna change the factory mileage values also.Shorter gearing=mileage drop(somewhat).

INST is 'right now' mileage...calculated every 5 seconds(or two seconds)not exactly sure which one...it's in the manual somewhere.

Okay...I just went out and 'reset' my display...engine off,key on.It displayed --.-.The mileage before that was 37.8.I started the bike, let it run for approximately one minute. The display stayed at --.-.So yeah,it has to be moving I would guess.

Okay...just went out again and restarted my bike...let er run through the cold start cycle and all.No change in the --.-.Either on INST. or AVG.So I guess if you reset without the bike moving, you're gonna continue to see --.- until you begin to ride.Hope that helps ya.Apparently, the idling motor does not factor in with mileage.Even throttle application during the idling did not read a value. So if the bike is only sitting after a reset....it will only show the --.- for however long she sits.Running or not.I think your display is fine.
