5 years in the making
04/04/11 11:18 PM

Hello all, my name is Ron and I am now a proud owner of a new 2010 Special Edition ZX14 as of March 18th. I've wanted this bad boy since it came out. I've looked at this bike for over a year at the dealership and to my surprise it was still there this year. Got a good deal on it and basically I knew it was mine. I've made some mods to it already as well. Had it broke down all last week which was kind of depressing but with patience its all back together.

I do have one question though...does it matter which power commander I get for it? I assume the latest and greatest but I figure I would ask some veterans of the bike first.

Ron, one thing is for certain everbody on this forum honestly believes that you are now riding the best thing on 2 wheels.
Nice looking machine, is that chalk outline on the ground where your last bike died? LOL

SChwwwwwwwwwwwwwwweee-E_E_-ET!

Far as PC goes, ...IDK??? I went with the PCV because it was only a little bit more expensive and seems to have the ability to take more factors into consideration when tuning. I haven't come close to messing with any of that stuff. Way to many other things to do with the bike before i worry about that. Never owned a PCIII so I can't tell you the dif but I suspect that in practical use it matters not a while lot which you have. Best advice I can give you is to try to look at the electronics DJ has to offer and decide what you think you want. Then call DJ and ask them what you should buy so that everything will be compatible.

I would PM DogoZX about the PCV v PCIII. He has owned both I think. Or --he woould have some ideas as to why a PCV is better--for his setup.

BTW, the chalk drawings on the driveway are nice. Good compliment to the bike!

welcome aboard.

I have the PCIII. The PCV looks nice, smaller and cheaper as I think it includes the equivalent of the multifunction hub which you needed to hook into the gear position sensor. I think the PCV has that already built in. I thought about upgrading as I was tempted by the auto tune. I'm hearing mixed reports about the auto tune here. Also I don''t think the PCV allows the ignition timing to be tuned, only fuel map. For that I like the PCIII and the ignition module and the mf hub. its a little costly, but I like the flexibility. only think I haven't got yet is the wide band commander and the LCD so I can monitor a/f in real time. So far operating from seat of the pants (or butt-dyno)

Yes I had mine dyno tuned but for round town, the ignition was too advanced (pinging) and feels really lean. I'm slowly working on those two variables to restore the butter smoothness now the butterflies are out and the PC gear is attached. its hard to find time...

Anyway, ramble over, welcome!

Welcome to the forum. Look through the sections, there is a ton of knowledge and how-to available, all about the ZX14.

I have a 2008, and when I got my exhaust system from Brock's Performance, they told me to just get a PC3, because I'm not going to treat mine like a race bike and hook it up to a laptop after every ride and apply trim values based on the autotune option.

Turn out they were right. Set it, and forget it. The bike quit stumbling down low in the 1,000-1,200 rpm range, and got a whole lot peppy right after that all the way to omg-warp-is-going-to-kick-in-any-second fast.

But the cool thing about this forum, is you will find plenty of folks with PC5s who will tell you, based on experience, exactly why you want a PC5. Heh.

I'd like to put a button (quick) shifter on mine, so now I have a reason to have put a PC5 on it. I can do it with the PC3, but it is much easier with a PC5 imho.

Again, glad you joined, and you can find these subjects by doing topic searchs all over the board.
