Should I do it?
01/27/12 9:22 PM

I have my cart all filled in at 58cycle witha set of Tri-Rs, with Mich Power 1s and some other stuff. Tis is gonna be a wad. Should I do it?

OK I know the answer is Hell YEAH.

This is a lot of unreturnable cash. Once the order is placed, there is no cancelation permitted under any circumstance. They start lathing out your wheels same day and the wheels are yours.

BTW, 58 cycle will sell about 300 bucks under manufacturers sugg retail. You just go to the sight and click OUR BEST OFFER and they will email you a link. Yiu get the 320 rotors too.

This is the wheels I have been dreaming of right? I want blue. Please reassure me these are the wheels I want. This is the one and only Tri-R is it not?? No cheap knock off??

ehheeheheheheheheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee------haaaaaaaaa!

Silver is +200$. That must be a clear powdercoat or something on there. I'm sure you could just tell them to leave the rims unfinished and polish yourself but then you be polishing every couple weeks if you want them to stay nice. I pick blue cuz it will match all teh other blue dodads on the bike. I really have some doubts as to how well anodized wheels will hold up. I will most likely be getting these puppies powdercoated white after a year if they look rough.

The BSTs seem to be considered best in the racing world but my guesstimates seem to indicate that the TriRs are not too much heavier. Besides weight, there is also some kind of wheel rotation inertia that is measured to assess wheel performance. BSTs maintain a spinning motion under their own weight much better than any of the other wheels that were tested alongside them. TriRs were not invented at the time so we do not know how they stack up. The Carrazeria that they tested at that time was excellent for weight and inertia among forged aluminum wheels. The TriRs are probably the lightest I will post the weight of everything. It is very hard to get the exact figures because there are a number of variables to consider. Sprocket carriers, spacers axle---they make it complicated. Tri-Rs are a little over 8 lbs for teh back wheel alone and a little over 5 lbs for the frint wheel. That is just wheel. No rotors sprockets or other stuff.

Well, for what it's worth, there were no race guys at BL who told me I should get CF wheels over TriRs. The dif would be meaningless except for in highly competative race use.

Do it Rook...I 'm most likely NOT totally putting the 'facts' about your wheels together exactly...like you mentioned..."of the Aluminum"..yes.And they may or may not be as "good' as the BST's(which I actually believe they are AT LEAST as 'good') IDK.Add a great look and minimal cleaning surface...I'd say get em.Course, those BST's don't have much surface area either...it's a toss up IMO...whatever ya like more. They both have aesthetic and practical pros and cons...but personally,I like those Tri Spoke wheels.Very minimalist, and sharp looking.I know this is your thread...and I don't want to put myself into it at all...but...one big acceptance point for me when I ordered my bike...the wheels.I wanted a nice chromish flair to em...AND...an easier deal when cleaning.Gotta say...these thin spoked wheels are far superior cleaning wise than my stockers.WAY better.I can clean these off in like 1/4 of the time it took me to get my others clean.BIG difference.

And yeah..the edit button should stay!

Do it. We all want to live vicariously through you as you enjoy the Tri-Rs. Losing unsprung weight is the best mod you can give your bike. And think of all the weight YOU'LL lose skipping meals to make wheel payments! How many lost pounds make a horsepower?

That's true Danno. these wheels will be free if i can live on flour and milk for 2 years.

The hp/pound equivalent is a question I have brought up in the past. 10 lbs reduction creates the same effect as 1 hp. That is for cars and it is a guesstimate. I imagine it would be better for bikes because 10 pounds is like 1/50 of the weight of the bike whereas for cages 10 lbs is at best, 1/200 of the weight. In any case, you have to loose a hell of a lot of weight to make an appreciable difference in acceleration.

I have had experienced two drag racer/mechanics tell me that lightweight wheels, even BSTs, do not make more than a couple hundreths diff in their quarter mile times. IDK if the accelleration from one speed to another is any quicker once the bike is moving but it is clear that from 0 mph to 160, there is not a lot of dif between stock and lightweights. Everyone seems to feel that the change in handling is much improved though.

I've bought a couple things off 58cycle and it all was as I expected granted none of it was too expensive. They have a lot of good prices and I wonder how they do it sometimes. But usually I just take the good deal and run the other way. Don't look the gift horse in the mouth!

wait there's a problem.

Th esprockets 58cycle sells for the TriRs are Vortex 520 or 525 pitch. I just installed a 530 pitch chain and sprockets.

Will they fit? If not, guess I need to convert to 525 pitch..New chain and sprockets again .. shitsky

ok ya looks like Carrazeria has Driven sprockets on their sight. 530 pitch, yes. Don't matter what the pitch is. Don't matter what Vortex sprocket I already have on my stock rim. All that matters is that I can get a nice light sprocket with holes that match up to the Tri-R holes.

well sorry guys. I can't do it until I know WTF I am going to need to make this work. Can't buy $2000 worth of non-cancelable, non-returnable wheel until I know the whole picture.

ahhhhh- that button is still waiting to get pushed.

I say go for it. If the wallet can handle it, then why not. LOL Was drooling when I looked at link for wheels. Only thing that tops them on my "wish list" would be turbo.

I have more of an intrigue for Nitrous. Possibly be getting a little spray going before Spring. Lot cheaper than turbo but you never need to worry about refilling the turbo.

Very true. Maybe need to invent the infinite nitrous bottle. Spray would be fun too, no doubt.

Thanks, fellas! I can't wait ....but I got a call from 58cycle today informing me that this was gonna be 4 to 6 weeks before they could deliver. Not a problem, really as I will not be riding at least that long. The sales rep said that I would be one of first ones to get these wheels. I'm sure she must mean one of the first ones to get them for the ZX-14 or possibly she meant one of the first to order ZX-14 Tri-Rs from them?//??

I do not see any images of Tri-Rs on a ZX-14 when I google that but these wheels have been out a while. Somebody must have them on a 14 somewhere.

when I get 'em i will definitely post pics. Maybe I can at least be the first to post a picture of a 14 with Tri-Rs.
