Latest Police Speed cams
11/05/10 9:05 AM

Heard a rumor that by 2013, Europe will have cams in police cars that read lic plates, recognize if plate is front and back, if insurance is updated, if you are tail gaiting, wearing a safety belt;'.........even if you have paid your taxes.

If you are found to be in violation, prosecution starts within seconds.

It was called ASSID or something like that. Can't find it on the google. Anyone else heard of it?

Haven't heard of it, but I believe it. Hopefully the recession (ie:lack of funding) keeps the technology outta the U.S. for awhile. Anyone remember this movie???

Judge Dredd

"All restaurants are Taco Bell"... LOL

That line is from Demo Man, isn't it... oops my bad.

Same kind of scarey concept, IMO, goin' on in that movie too. And now that sh*t is happening. I don't like it.

The basic truth is:

Driving a vehicle on a public road is a privilege (it's not an unalienable right) earned by qualifying for a drivers license. That privilege can be suspended or terminated in accordance with applicable laws.

Personally, I think it's too easy to obtain a drivers license. It's basically: Show me the money!

I'm in favor of licensing checkpoints. If I could possible save one life, I feel it would be worth it.

I know that I'm in the minority, and most folks object. But I'm all about majority rules, so be it.

Actually, I'm not all that worried, hundreds of SEC agents were watching porno on their government issue lap tops while Bernie Madoff stole 50 billion dollars from investors right under their collective noses. Time and again, the government has proven itself totally incompetent and inept....just look at the U.S. Post Office for further proof. I rest my case.

From article:

While details are limited, the EU has set aside €8.2 million ($11.6 / £7.2 million) to develop a camera system that will not only catch speeders but also tailgaters, polluters, unbelted occupants, and drivers traveling too fast for current road conditions.

green police

Given the choice between the cameras and ZXSyko's proposed checkpoints, I'll take the cameras. That really sounds like a waste of resources to me.

I don't like it. I think it is fairly obvious when someone is severely breaking traffic laws. They don't need anything but lazer. People will continue to get thrills where they are unlikely to be seen. peeking in on our lives is an invasion of privacy. I just don't like the feeling that someone is watching me that closely and keeping tabs.

That would be nice. Here in WA and under Federal law, laser jammers/shifters are legal.

The technology exists in North America. In British Columbia, Canada they have a camera/scanning system mounted on top of special police cars. It doesn't "start prosecution in seconds" but it has the capability of querying hundreds of plates simultaneously. It is used to detect stolen vehicles, no insurance and registration which I am all for. It catches many A holes who took something that someone else worked hard to obtain. As for the insurance in some provinces with private insurance if you are in an accident with a person that is not insured YOU are on the hook until the insurance company settles. So if your car is written off you have to buy a new one out of pocket and get re-reimbursed. So the victim who may not be able to afford a new vehicle is screwed by some idiot. F them, if big brother catches those retards I'm all for it. I agree its a fine line but the way its used in BC I love it.

Really?! Holy crap!! I really hope you're just kidding. If not, the governmental indoctrination system is definitely doing its job, and doing it well.

This is not only a waste of public funds, it's freaking scary. As with all things regarding government, it will eventually be used against the law-abiding citizens it is purported to aid and protect.

If they get passed the locks, alarm, 2 pitt bulls and shotgun I guess thats when the insurance kicks in. But in reality there is very few people crazy enough to get on a zx14, think about it.

Thats true. All I'm sayin is that anything that helps put dirtbags that take other peoples things in jail or at least gets someones property back is fine by me. They would have a hard time getting mine too......

not that I want it but i wonder why the government doesn't put a gps on every vehicle and have the gps auto log a speeding ticket for anytime the limit is exceeded. Could all be done via data towers already in place. Save a ton of money on cops just sitting around and well they could always us the line that roadways are a privilege not a right so if you don't like it just stop leaving your home. It seems a logical step from cameras.

I see the possibility of theft an acceptable risk. It's no different than riding--I reduce my risk of having the bike get jacked but I accept it could happen. If someone wants it bad enough, they are going to get it. Having the bike stolen is a much smaller risk than getting a ticket even with the current technology.

Holy sh!t! don't give them any ideas.
