Why ruin a great motorcycle
08/12/12 11:06 AM

I've seen a lot of pictures of stretched, lowered, enormous rear tire 14's and I can't help but be a little confused by this. The 14 is a great handling bike and I don't understand why someone would ruin it! I get it if you're a drag racer, but I'm willing to bet that blowing a bunch of money on a 300 series swing arm conversion doesn't help e.t.'s. so what's the deal? Sorry just a bit of a rant...

I agree with you about the slammed down look and the fat tires, but like everything else. its all about what they like. Its kind of like choppers. they dont ride well but they get the looks. me, I like to be able to cut a turn and hang off. thats what tickles me. lol.

Sorry you had bad luck with yours grn14. I love my 08. Generally, when someone rants like you did, it comes down to user error, I'm guessing this is likely the case here. I've been riding for 25 years, dirt and street, and the 14 is a very nice bike. I think it handles great for what it is a STREET bike, but I also realize (unlike many others)it's not a replica and I don't want it to be. Thanks for clogging up my post with your rant though. I don't even understand why you'd even bother coming to a zx14 site. You should sell it, trade it, get rid of it and stop wasting the bandwidth of this site.

Grn, you know very well the 14 is not a track bike, but you got one anyway. Why get mad at the bike for being what it's supposed to be? You ought to be mad at the guy who knew what it was and got it anyway...

Hey Zach;
I'm in the middle of putting block off plates and blocking off my airbox.Theres no clearnce in there to work.I put my old 43 Vortex sprocket on the back.Going to put my speedohealer back on since I have all the ferrings off. This thing jumps with the 16/43 gearing, loving it.

Some people install those accessories to add personality to THEIR bikes. What a boring world we would live in if we all looked and acted the same.

Yes I get, but it doesn't make any sense why you'd modify a bike for LESS performance.

That's exactly how I feel, you don't put 26's and hydraulics on a ferrari. That's something the Sport bikes crowd got from the Harley guys and it's a shame!

better trade it in for that new DUC mad max street fighter thingy lol

I don't know about that, a buddy of mine bought an 848 Street Fighter and it blew up with only 493 miles on the clock.

He wanted either a new bike or a crate motor installed but Ducati wouldn't authorize it and he ended up getting a new cylinder, piston and rings. He's pissed and has hired an attorney as he hasn't even made the first payment and now has a rebuilt motor.

I'd pay to have that thing shipped to the factory HQs in Bologna and torch it on their front lawn....lol!

Agreed but it takes all kinds to make the world go round. I've seen R6s with two inches of chicken strip on the back tire, go figure! Some guys don't like to lean their bike in and would rather go the bling/poser route. More power too 'em, I enjoy all of it, just my .02.

LOL Kruz, +1

I saw a Ducati 998 or whatever the heck that new one is, the one that costs 50k, this weekend on the COG trip.

It was parked at a diner we stopped at for lunch on one of our rides.

Darned if he didn't have two rows of chicken strips left on the back and about the same on the front.

I then looked at my "old man's bike" Concours 14 and the PR3s are scrubbed all the way to the sidewalls, front and rear.

I almost fell down laughing so hard.
