When you get ya one Bad in Black, your next up to buy a liter bike. Seriously Bad, thanks for the encouragement, I sure hope the pipe wakes this thing up like you said. Peak numbers don't really mean that much to me, it's the part throttle and midrange hit I like. The '07 CBR is just so freakin smooth, there' no real hit to it like on Reeves ZX-10. I never thought 150 hp could be almost boring so this should increase the giggle factor. Glad to hear the Busa is dialed in, Suzuki's always seem to respond well to Yoshi's.

if this bike doesn't scare the out of me, i won't need the 6r anymore. that undertail exhaust gets a little warm these days anyway. i've seen guys put the stock ohlins damper off the newer bikes on these first gens. that's probably the route i'll go. probably not the best but better than nothing i'm sure.

oh, and it's an 05 with 14k miles. my 14 has 12k miles on it so i'm thinking the mileage is better than it sitting in the garage for the past few years. there's an 05 about 3 miles from my house that's been sitting in the guy's garage for the past 2 yrs with 5k miles on it. the battery leaked acid all over the swingarm, chain, exhaust, rear brake, etc. i think this one's been better taken care of though.

if anybody's looking for a discount on a akra exhaust (kruz!) i'm starting a group buy that'll get us %20 off! check this guy out kruz. he's been pretty quick at responding to email already. i've got to get 8 or more full or slip on exhausts in the group buy. spread the word! http://www.stdreams.com/catalog/exhaust-intake-c-43.html he just quoted me $825 shipped for a full race hex exhaust and $900 shipped for the evo. if we score 8 exhausts in the group buy he said he'd sell it to me for dealer cost +10%. come on guys help a poor brotha out!

Ok, now I'm really pissed. $900 for the Evo....shutup! I just paid $899 for the Yoshi Rs-5 full system. I feel like I've been had!

Oh well, it's done and so far I'm happy with the RS-5, typical Yoshi, looks gorgeous in polished stainless and is very light at 13.6 lbs including headers, midpipe, carbon fiber end can and clamps. I'm putting the CBR on a major diet and this should help a lot. I'm guessing the stock exhaust system will come in at around 30 lbs so about a 16 pound loss in the exhaust alone should be realized. The bike started at 450 lbs with a full tank of gas and I've already stripped a lot of weight off, back fender, passenger pegs and brackets, heat shield, license plate mount etc. I should be right around 430 lbs wet now, getting close to 600 territory. With a set of Marchesinis and one of those new ultra light weight batteries I could hit 410 maybe.

I'd like to get a weight on the Akro Evo and Sato systems to compare. I'm guessing they're a pound or two lighter.

Thanks for the heads up, sorry i missed the group buy.

well, to be honest kruz, you probably got the best deal on a new system. the $900 system is for the 05 model liter. so your 07 would probably cost more. i'm thinking about the race cause the extra 3 lbs isn't gonna matter too much.

Is that the actaul difference between the Evo and the Race, 3 lbs or is that a best guess? That would put the Evo right at about 10 lbs.

I'll be happy with the Yoshi, the pipe looks awesome and I've heard they sound incredible. PCIII is scheduled to arrive tomorrow so hopefully I can get the pipe and Power Commander on there this weekend.

BTW go for the Scotts steering damper for your 10.

well, i drove almost 600 miles yesterday to find out the bike was a pos. i took the bike for a ride and the sprockets were worn, the front end (dash) vibrated like a mofo at take off, the freakin brake lines wouldn't stay attached to their little bracket, etc. i was thinking, damn what else is going to go wrong with this bike? i only drove it a mile and the fugger is already falling apart! well, needless to say, i'm too anal about my machines and how they could easily end my life if not properly maintained. i got out of there to live another day! we did get to eat at jim neely's interstate bbq in southhaven on the way back though anybody seen them on food network? all the decent 10's i've seen are 10 or more hours from me, wtf? i guess, for now, it just wasn't meant to be...

Bummer dude, sorry to hear that Reeves. You gotta be super careful buying a sportbike, that kinda thing is why lotsa folks avoid the used market completely. It hasn't been wrecked has it? Sounds like it's time to take all the plastics off and give her a good thorough going over. Change the oil, check all the fluids and go over all the nuts and bolts..that sort of thing. You're right, your trusting your life to that machine, no such thing as being too anal.

nope, me and my brother drove 267 miles to jonesboro in my tacoma. i test drove the bike up the street for about a mile (without mirrors!) after checking the bike over. on the way back to the dealer, everytime i gave it throttle, it would vibrate and rattle like hell. that was enough for me to start asking hella questions. the guy said i couldn't contact the previous owner and i walked away. i spent $60 in gas and $30 at the bbq place. 267 miles later we were home by 9 pm last night, and i'm still browsing zx-10r.net this morning oogling all those 05's

Man you dodged the bullet on that one. I thought you'd already dropped the big coin on that thing. Keep looking, shop the owner, you want a middle aged guy who was going through midlife crisis, bought a ZX-10, pooped his drawers a couple times, parked it and then his old lady made him put it up for sale. He only rode it 1500 miles in three years but spent $5,000 on upgrades to look cool. The oil was changed every 500 miles or 1 year whichever came first and the dealer did all the maintenance. He spent more time polishing the bike than riding it and never took it over 70 mph, you know the type. If a teen owned it.....fugghetaboudit!

Man, I was just over at the Akropovic site and now I'm kickin myself for not getting an '08 ZX-10 when I had the chance. The wimpy midrange and low end was the biggest issue, look at what the Akro Evolution full system does to the midrange torque and rear wheel HP on that thing, it's a freakin monster now! That thing is positively sick, I've never seen such a fat torque curve, smooth as a baby's bottom.

Shopping for liter bikes can be a pain.....I've been hunting hard for a friend of mine who doesn't have internet, it seems like 99% of them have been wrecked/salvaged/trashed/raced or just generally messed up. Strange thing is I can find busa's and 14's all day long, owned by older guys like us, that are in perfect shape? I guess when you're shopping for a race bike you'd better expect some hard usage/abusage? I have seen some very clean liters around tho, but the owners were older guys like us who knew what they had, and priced the bikes accordingly Keep looking Reeves, they're out there
Kruz I think you're gonna be happy with your CBR when you get it piped and pc'd. I've watched some vids of modded up cbr's of your year, those little sumguns are hella sneaky fast, and it must handle awesome being as little as it is compared to the 14. If I do get a liter it'll be a 10 fer sure tho.......I just have this twisted obsession with those little rockets

As always, thanks for the encouragement Bad, you're a good guy, I hope we get a chance to meet some day. I'm also hoping this stuff wakes up my little CBR. It's never going to have the topend kick of a ZX-10 but it's got the low and midrange covered and has enough topend steam to get the job done...the rest is up to me.

Pipes here, PCIII came in yesterday so I guess it's time to start bolting on hard parts. I'm going to do the airbox flapper door mod while I've got her torn apart, supposed to be good for a couple more ft-lbs and hp on the lowend. If I can get motivated enough to get out there in the garage in this heat, I should be able to get it all on Saturday morning. Yer right, this thing is small, 600 size really and light and I'm peeling ever more weight off it so it's going to be interesting to see how she goes when all is said and done. When is official launch date for the turbo? Be careful and dial in the boost slowly on that monster.

Ditto on the 10, I want one just cause of it's bad boy image. Maybe pick up an '09 in the spring, the Good Lord willing, when they're trying to give them away. With a carbon fiber Akro on there they would look awesome.

Buying a liter bike used is like playing in a minefield, there is a lot of junk out there as Reeves is finding out. That's why I decided to go new only, why risk it? Your right about Busa's and 14s. More...ahemmmm...mature gentleman seem to buy these and some....not all...baby 'em. When I was looking for a Busa they seemed to fall into two camps, reasonably priced bikes that had been dropped and had a bit of road rash and cream puffs with almost zero miles that the owner wanted you to pay dearly for. I like nice stuff so I was soon getting into new bike territory price wise. At that point you just say what the heck and start looking at new stuff....least I did.

Yoshimura RS-5 full system on there, PCIII installed and intake flapper mod done. Yesterday, I downloaded the M125-006 map off the DynoJet website for the Yoshi full system, set the throttle points and cranked her up. Juries out on whether it was worth spending $1200 bucks on these mods. The new pipe looks great, sounds awesome, kind of a deep rumble and saved a little over 5 pounds. Stock system weighed 19.22 lbs total, surprisingly light for OEM exhaust, while the RS-5 weighed in at 13.90 lbs. Performance wise I haven't been overwhelmed yet. I lost a little off the low end which is not necessarily a bad thing as it took away the abrubtness when first opening the throttle but gained in overall smoothness. Surging from just off idle to 4500 rpm is gone now and the annoying compression braking that upset corner entry is now also history. I'm happy with all that. Power gains I'm not overwhelmed yet. In all fairness, Yoshimura's dyno graphs show the gains don't really begin until 6000 and really increase as you approach the redline. I haven't had a chance to really wring it's neck yet so that may be where all the power is hiding. I think I would have been much happier with a strong midrange coupled to the stockers topend which was plenty. Anyway, the bike is more fun to ride now, just not sure if it's worth the $$$$$.

quit teasing us kruz! you know all of us have liter bike envy!

nice lookin' ass there kruz! have they mentioned on the fireblades forum about relocating the rear brake reservoir? that's the only thing that stands out in that pic that doesn't seem to compliment the bike's ass end. btw, my brother rode his 07 cbr 1k to the gym and rode wheelies unintentionally. he said his gixxers won't do that and they've been geared! looks and sounds like you made a pretty good choice on a liter.

my 636 has an undertail exhaust too and it gets hotter than hades in this summer heat once the operating temp gets up to 210-230. have you noticed a great deal of heat coming from your's this summer? it has definitely put me off to buying another bike with the undertail exhaust. no way was i going to consider the 06/07 zx10's!

I left off the aluminum heat shield that covered the OEM pipe, the polished stainless is just too pretty to cover up. No it doesn't burn my leg, the Yoshi runs way cooler than the cat equipped stocker. I didn't know you could relocate the rear brake reservoir, that might be worth doing. Sorry for poor picture quality, shot in bad lighting out in the shop.

Reeves the end can sits pretty far from the seat base and they gave me a roll of adhesive backed reflective aluminum tape for the bottom of the seat. It stays reasoanbly cool back there. PCIII installation was a real PITA, I took my time and it was over 4 hours start to finish. ZX-14 PCIII was a little over 1 hour, much easier.

The CBR is a great little liter and yes it does like to wheelie in the first two gears, first gear is shorter than the GSXR. It puts down it's power in a range where it is useable and accessible. The new setup has more power but I'm not sure if that necessarily makes it a better machine, time will tell.

Big K I haven't had the pleasure of owning a modern liter bike yet, but from what I've read they seem to have done a VERY good job of getting maximum performance and light weight out of them. From what I've gathered it doesn't seem like they have as much room for improvement in those areas as other bikes. I think once you get to explore the upper revs tho you'll still find the power you're wanting from the mods. The yosh pipe on my busa changed the busa's stock power delivery by taking away some low end, but giving me much more midrange....and it gave the busa a top end hit that it never had originally. Basically what it did was take a flat boring power curve and give it some nice juicy spikes Between the weight loss/new rubber/better handling/extra power it really is a whole new bike to ride.....much more wheelie prone, lighter on its feet, and easier to turn. But it also seemed to lose a slight bit of its legendary stability. I'm having to re-adjust abit
