yet another gen2 fly questions!
06/20/12 10:20 PM

Trying to decide to pull flies on 08 with r-77 yoshimura slip ons. Also have pc3 i bought used but don't have time to have dyno tune this summer. so wondering:

1. fuel mileage - i do a lot of touring 20,000kms (13,000mi) per year.
2. harmful lean condition (ping or heat)
3. low rpm stutter

That's it! Was trying to read back posts but some of posts just gave me headache and gave up trying to read (no offense)....

Sorry to all who have beaten this topic to death but I would just like to know if it's all good. Just want and feel need for a little more crisper throttle response at lower rpms without have to rotate throttle as much and wait. I am a lazy rider and want a little more effortlessness without sacrificing efficiency (higher rpms or lower gearing). I'll do the pc3 at some point but dont want to waste a day or more farting around... Or SHOULD I really get the pc3 installed and tuned. If I install the pc3, I will only do if get tuned as I don't want to take chance of an off map. My days available are riding 8+hr days....

"without have to rotate throttle as much and wait"...Rifleman's 1/5th throttle mod...and throttle play turned 'almost' out...meaning...only very small play...very.Flies out....an 08 won't matter very much.Kawasaki reprogrammed those year bikes to open sooner...you won't see much improvement,if any.But the throttle mod...yes...you WILL feel that for sure.It won't be jerky either. The throttle action will remain smooth and all.

1. same. No impact on fuel use. will let more air in but fuel will stay the same.

2. No. OEM fueling is very rich all across the range on the 08-11. A little more air isn't going to make a dif in fact, you might just find that the fuel gets reduced if you tune for flies out.

3. There is a noticeable surge in power at 3.5 K and that still be there after the flies are removed. It can be eliminated with proper tuning.

Flies out....an 08 won't matter very much.Kawasaki reprogrammed those year bikes to open sooner...you won't see much improvement,if any.

^^true. The main reason to pull flies on a 08-11 is to smooth out the powerband but as I mentioned, the fueling needs to be addressed as well as the flies being removed.

I always hear there is plenty of fuel for slipons with the stock map. Blocking the PAIR increases the airbox pressure which would seem to lean up the fueling even more.

My bike was never tuned for PAIR block. Running fine.

Don't expect anything dramatic by pulling the flies on yur 08. If you pull and remap it is safer but extra power is not noticeable. Best I can say is that maybe it will feel a tiny little bit stronger AFTER the flies open range is hit because the motor spins freer before flies open range. That is not much of a range at all. You are barely moving below flies open range. Sport riding, you will not be at that low of rpm unless you are slowing down after an emergency situation. The flies out mod on a 08-11 is mainly for street riding range IMO.

Hi. I pulled the flies on my 08 SE and i was happy with the results. Noticeable boost in power below 4000rpm, not huge but enough to make the effort worthwile. the bike still runs as smooth as it did before with no surging or hesitation. I do not have a PC only slipons.
