Chain Breaker Recommendations
08/09/09 10:17 PM

I am looking for a chain breaker/riveter to do the chains on my bikes, I assume they are all 530's but I'm not positive. Cost is not a factor, I want the best quality tool I can get. I would like some recommendations on which tools folks are using and where to buy.

Thanks in advance.

Once you spread the pins, you do not want to crack the link pin divots. You measure out the crush so many mm's. Read the directions on the box or buy an extra link you do not make it on the firs try. That tool above is more stable on the crush.

Thanks Hub, exactly the kind of information I was looking for. I had been looking at the Motion Pro, but then I saw the RK and it looked better. I had been leaning heavily toward the RK, but when it comes to tools I don't want to save money especially if it can mean safety. You really don't want a chain coming apart at highway speeds! I was really wondering if there was anything better than the RK. I guess the RK it is.

I have 2 of RK set ups. One I bought and another was given to me by the St. Louis group to keep in the tool box when they need another chain put on.
I think the MP unit is crap but that is only personal opinion.
