Looking at one today...

Local dealer has one on the floor; it looks almost the same as the old 14, not too different! But, the traction control and other electronics make a it a different machine! Those pipes are too big, way too big.

Most definitely! I ordered the Brock's CT... My wife told me she likes the dual pipes, but something tells me its actually the price the wife dont like... She said that thing is $1595???? I said now... Its actually $1795. I was never a fan of that exhaust until I started reading up about it.

I think the pipes are so big is because the old model's pipe got so HOT from the catalytic converters firing off -- doing what they're supposed to do, I've burned the crap out of my right leg (wearing shorts) (do it all year round here in TX) while riding it onto the lift. I think the new pipes are more insulated to keep the temps down a bit? Overall, I don't know if the price tag is worth admission to this new model...considering the old one is still very fine imho! Plus, looking fwd to winter mods on mine; givi bags, bigger windscreen, suspension upgrades.

They use less cat in the pipe. I forgot the reasoning, but that is less heat, no? The black art behind the larger chambered pipe is that torqueness on the bottom rpm settings.

Hoping we will soon see some TURBO action. There is a little more comp, but may be ok. It looks like the main parts of the bike are the same so it should all bolt right on from the previous 14.

With the motor changes and new electronics I'm leaning toward the new bike vs finding a used one.....but the price diff is tough to swallow - like DOUBLE.

I think Donny's still living in the San Antonio area.

As for me, I'm staying put with my '06. It's just getting broken in good with 15,600 miles on the clock, not seeing anything in the new one to justify coughin up $14,000.

Every time they update these things, they keep getting heavier, almost 600 lbs now.

Jury is still out on the looks, I'll wait until I see one done up with a nice set of Yoshis on there to make a final judgement.

I just made mention before I read down the rss list to see what we seem to agree UPon. I'm not liking the direction. This needs that engine placed in a different platform. Call it an R, Connie, now, 'Top Platform.'

I'll hand out the sam year eyes swords, we don't top shelf some shit here. "We knew everyone else wassa gunna comeha gunning for us, so we came pee [RE] paired!" Gimme an R! Gimme an E! WATT'sat spell? I'm sitting on the sidelines for now, too!

I'm with you Hubster, gaining weight is not watt I wanted to see. Seems they followed Suzukis lead with the Hayabusa, punched it out, fattened it up and injected some hormones.

I still like the original Hayabusa better than the Gen II version, there was somethng pure about it, shaped by the wind tunnel not by the styling department. Parked side by side the older bikes almost looks petite compared to the cartoonish front fairing and hormonal tail section bulges of the newer model...purposeful comes to mind. It's like they were trying too hard on the new one, the bike already had a classic look, leave the styling alone, update the brakes and motor and trim some pork.

OK, back to the new 14, the extra grunt is welcome but not the weight gain. I wish they had kept the motor the same, maybe massaged the tune and brakes a bit and dropped some serious weight. More HP makes you faster on the straights, less weight makes you faster everywhere. Move more toward the sport end of the sport-tourer spectrum.

Yup, I'm perfectly happy with my '06, seems like it was the purest form of this particular vehicle. It had more power up top and out of the crate then what followed and it's only shortcoming, lack of low end was an easy fix. The styling on the older bikes even looks more subtle to my eye now, like it's aged well. In the same way Suzuki overdid the Busa, Kawasaki may have gone too far with this makeover. Time will tell.

the 07 14 was to the 04 zx12R....that the zx14R is to the zx14. Drop the exhaust(s),shorai the battery, ditch the rear fender.There..now you have a zx14 with 199 RWHP(low estimate BTW).With substantially better handling,TC,Slipper, and all the new cool stuff they incorporated into this new bird.100 something design/assembly changes in the frame alone. You need to test ride this baby....

I'm waiting too... Maybe a generation 2 down the line. But perfectly happy with my 06. She has about 13k and after upgrading the susp, rotors and some bst's she'll be a true "top model".

There..now you have a zx14 with 199 RWHP(low estimate BTW

Where have you seen this? Advertising hype, I will believe it when I see it on real world dynos! The word I'm hearing is it doesn't put out any more rear wheel HP than the outgoing model, just added some grunt down low and picked up 35 lbs. I am very, very wary of claimed HP from manufacturer's and for good reason. The original ZX-14 was claimed by KHI to have 200 HP with "Ram Air". The actual '06-07s dyno'd at around 170 rear and the '08s and on lost a couple from that due to running rich on top to save the catalysts.

KHI claimed 220 HP w/ Ram air on the new 2011 ZX-10R. Mine puts down less than 165 rear wheel, great bike but no where near the claimed power output, the Euro model has maybe 175 rear wheel.

All I'm saying here is that the jury is still out, in my mind anyway, on this new bike. I'm always suspicious when a sportbike gains a lot of weight. Physics is physics, you can't throw a fat chick as high as you can a skinny one.

I own enough bikes to be sceptical of wild claims, all of these bikes are fast and handle well, the differences are usually subtle.

Kevin Duke 2006 ZX-14 Introduction in Las Vegas:

A rider can't see the timing lights at the far end of the strip, but I knew I had clicked off a good, clean run. As I neared the pits, I could see people waving and yelling, and soon I came to learn that I had clicked off a 9.78 at 147 mph. Remarkably, that's only a tenth of a second slower than the best time logged by Gadson or Schnitz on a stock ZX! The fact that I wasn't able to better that time on my next two runs did nothing to diminish my elation. When corrected for temperature and altitude (as do all magazines), my run computed to a 9.46 at 152.0 mph. Pretty damn impressive for a bone-stock motorcycle, and easily better than a stock Hayabusa.

The day I'm at a light on the dual highway headed out of town. And a 2012 ZX14 pulls up next to me, thinking its all big and bad.

If you look at the Brock Diaries, the last torque entry I heard or read at some post, who knows where? If I could get a 'no' out of Brock, where he says, no valve cover was taken off, here is me pipe, an the pig pisser of choice, my 14 pumped out book."

Book says, Max: 114 ft-lb/190 PS. 187 hp sound right? So, was not Brock's peak torque @ 113.5 ft-lbs?
