Yeah, meb!
When I bought my 2013 ZX14R this past Fall I was told by the dealer to bring it in for a valve adjustment at 600mi. That's not a typo I said six hundred miles. Are you guy's saying I don't need to do it? I currently have 475mi on the bike
Look, this is how the industry is, be it cars or bikes. They may be repeating the old ways or some of the smaller bikes with closer valve lashes, the shop is not up on the product in general. So your owner's manual answers a lot of questions the dealer level should be hip to. So you trump their card.
Open to the owner's manual 'maintenance and adjustment' section, pg. 109. The upper column that heads to the right are the hour spent or intervals in mileage. The first operation in the down column are the valve adjustments. 15,000 miles is the very first adjustment, not 600mi.
The throttle sync is every 7,500mi. At 15k you should be on your second sync. The sync alone is slipping out of balance before 7.5mi. So if you are chasing smooth, you cut your intervals in half.
1. Race = The 1/2 Cutters.
2. Peak Performance = Follow book to the letter, ie, mileage.
3. A JoeAv Running Bike = I changed my plugs 30k miles ago they held up that well. I extended my interval is what's an interval? I just got around to setting the valves @ 20k for the first time. Whathrottlesync?
See the tune of 3 bikes, meb, merc? Pick your tune, because eventually you fall into one of those.
