Yep Rook, the new one is growing on me, liking the grills, the way they funnel down in the rear gives a sensation of motion or speed. The sharp edges, juries still out. I prefer the older tail section and all of 'em had ugly pipes stock so won't go there.

Rook that vid is the reason I have been wanting a 04-05 zx10r, those bikes where just fast for no reason!

Good example of newer is not necessarily better, the Gen 1 was one of the best ever, light, fast and raw, stripped down to the basics, an experts tool. Successive ZX-10Rs were dumbed down to appeal to a wideband audience.

It might be hard pressed to find a dual 14/14r owner?

Romans, I went minimal upgrades on the ZX-10R, Yoshimura R77 and a fender eliminator and that's about it, no wire mod, no ECU flash, no PC.

Here's the fleet, been almost 3 years since I've added anything new so I have the itch.

I like the new seat shape they have for the 14r. Looks like a solo seat with the tail cover on. The Gen1 14 seat looks a little less integrated into the whole design.

Nah, for now I leave my 10 alone, it has plenty of poke. I'm reverse from you on the seat issue, prefer the Gen 1 saddle but that's just an opinion. At the end of the day both the 14 and 14R look real good, can't go wrong on either one really.

I hear you Grn, you have everything you need right there in that 14R, perfect for the roads in Montana, don't need anything else really.

Great topic, I like most of you could care less about top speed and 1/4 mile times. But I would like to hear from some of you who do long rides and run the twisties. Very Intersted in comfort and handling. Had to sell my 06, not sure to look for a used 1st gen. or get a newer model.

So which won handles better, and which one is more comftable in stock form

Bbird, I would go with the 14R if I were looking at a replacement, it just makes sense that the newer bike is going to have an edge. If I totaled out my Gen 1 or blew the motor I'd be down at the stealer signing the paperwork on a new one. If I get a 14R, I'll do one of my comparo write ups vs the old one, the good, the bad and the ugly.

What I really need is to beg a long test ride on the 14R at the stealer...and I say stealer in jest as I love the folks at Kawasaki City where I bought most of my bikes. Need to get it out and flog it a bit, any differences would crystallize pretty quickly. Five minutes around the parking lot won't work, need to hit a few corners, a few bumps and get it up into triple digit speeds to check things out, maybe a one hour ride.

Looking at these 14R pics, I like the body colored grills on the black and green versions best. The bike I sat on at the dealer was the red/black version, the grills were black and looked a bit unfinished in my opinion. I sure wish KHI would have finished the red version and painted the grills and lowers body colored in red. Just my .02

I think the black and red version is the "Flat Ebony" color combination. In my opinion that's probably why the black and green looks best.
