Knight Design drop pegs
07/11/15 7:20 PM

Bought some KD 1 3/8" drop pegs from a guy on another forum trying to gain a little leg room. My stock pegs had already had the rubber pads removed, so the KD pegs only gave me another 5/8" more legroom. No issues lowering he brake pedal to suit, but when I relocated the shift leer on it's splines, my foot fouled on the sidestand tang. I removed the lever, made a tracing and used a vice and hammer to bend it outward slightly. I bent it out from the splined end and then bent the other end to keep the lever at a right angle to the shift shaft. When doing this second bend, I chucked the lever up with the end sticking up and used a heavy drift and hammer to make the short bend rather than bending it where the toe section meets the long part of the lever. Didn't want to break that off. Just a heads-up for anyone wanting to use these pegs.

I have the KD's installed on my bike and it looked to be a simple adjustment for the pedals. Would you mind posting a pic of the new shifter shape?

Here is a shot with the tracing of the original shape on top. Difference is 1/2-9/16" It was enough to get my big, wide foot out of the sidestand.

That is what I thought you were describing, but I wanted to be certain. I was thinking the part might be aluminum or cast in a way that would not allow it to bend much - I really can see myself breaking it somehow. I've got big dogs too, so this may be something i'm forced to do if I don't want to continue raising my foot off the peg to brake or shift. Thank you for posting the photo - a big help!

Bending the main part of the lever with the splined end chucked in a vise is not too bad. Just take your time and bend it a little bit at a time. The part is probably forged aluminum, so it's pretty stout. Where you want to use caution is bending the pedal end back parallel to the peg. Rather than forcing the bend where the pedal meets the lever, you have to bend the lever just before the junction. As I said, I used a heavy drift placed just under the pedal and only left a short section sticking up out of the vice. That way, no added stress on the pedal where it joins the lever.

I will let you know if I get bold enough to try it. I don't have a vice on the work bench of my one car garage. Yet.

I wouldn't risk doing it while the lever is still bolted to the shift shaft. May put undue stress on the shaft, bearing or it's seal.

After bending the shift lever and rotating it and the brake pedal downwards on their pivot shafts, the brake light switch may also need adjustment. Mine was on continuously until I did so. Adjusting the switch requires removal of the heel guard to access the switch on it's mount.
